Figured I'd get this thread started up, since it seems like today is the first day we see a lot of entries. I know a Big Man replacement is priority #1.

Edit: a reminder that evanmiya.com does a good job with putting together a ranking list of every portal entry.

No reason for the thread unless Fran has decided to offer money. 0-5 on portal bigs last off-season
We reportedly have the NIL via the Swarm in place. Fran has to recognize we need help in the worst way next season or we're in for a very, very long season.

Edit: updated to reflect the NIL collective as Swarm, not Storm (either an auto-correct or brain freeze, both equally possible!)

We have money- Iowa doesn't get the transfers in football if they don't. Fran knows very well what the market rate is on transfer starters.

I remember Fran initially saying he wouldn't offer transfer players something his current players didn't have. Now, he seems to be all in on the Swarm.

It will be interesting to see who he lands, assuming he does land some transfers.

Finding a 2 will be a priority if, as widely rumored, Perkins enters the portal after the season is over. The last minutes of yesterday's game likely didn't encourage him to stick around for next year.
I hadn't heard that is widely rumored. If true, that's a big problem.

If so, as you mention; we'd need help at every position aside from the 3 spot (assuming the Sandfort brothers play next year to combat Patrick chucking up 3 balls, providing no defense, no rebounding, and slowing down the offensive flow by foolishly driving to the rack or holding onto the ball outside too long).

Almost like his stat line was 8/22 (3/13) and had less rebounds than a guard yesterday? The losses aren't on one person or family. It's why they call it a team sport. They all can claim their fair share of the blame for the effort on defense.

Maybe money was available last off-season, maybe not.

Fran has said many times though that he will not offer money in the pay-for-play fashion that everyone else is doing. We'll see if he changes his tune

This is the first I’ve heard any comment on Perkins. He’d start next year so why would he transfer? He’s not going to find as “open” of an offense as he will at Iowa… unless he’s $ shopping

Losing playing time because of the hidden rule about at least one McCaffery has to be on the court at all times, if not two. Maybe because he is just tired of the "family business" plain and simple. Not to mention the laziness/disruption PM causes on the court. And yes, PM has one good game every 10/15 games. JMO and/or observations.

Connor is gone and P-mac isn't going to be getting any of Perkins minutes. If Perkins put in the same effort P mac did yesterday we might be sitting on a 2 seed right now. Murray too. First I've heard of Perkins heading to the transfer portal. And Fran went after guys hard in the portal last year but we lost out most likely because we had no nil. I know we were 2nd in one bigs choices and he got paid. Fran wants all of his players to get nil money. He may have to change his approach about equal amounts to get the portal players here for 1 or 2 years.

He/TP was on the bench 15+/- minutes hard to contribute from the bench. If I remember correctly his time on the floor was in/out of the game after the initial 7/8 minutes. Basketball is a team game and team chemistry plays a huge part of the team cohesiveness. Jerking people around (but never a McCaffery) destroys continuity of the players/team/game.

BTW PM's effort has been seriously lacking IMO all year with the exception two games (maybe because of his illness or maybe not?). I predict PM will be back to his usual lazy play from here on out but will play big minutes because of Dad. PM plays like a guy who has grown up taller than 95% of his competition, but now that he is playing with young/tall/strong athletes he can no longer get by with his old playing habits and poor decisions with the ball.

Hope I am dead wrong. JMO

All I'm saying is he won't be getting Perkins minutes. Pmac doesn't play the 1 or 2 and if he is giving a lot more effort than 3 of our starters then he should be playing. TP has been as inconsistent as his effort has all year. With the exception of Connor and fp and Sandfort off the bench i can bag on players and Fran for a huge post but I'm going to enjoy the women's success and revel in being a really great basketball school. I've already blocked yesterday's game and rewatched the women repeat as tournament champions!

Good call, let's get 'er rolling...

This team needs help at the 5, 1, 4 spots (in priority order) big time...
haha, we always need an upgrade at the 1 spot with Fran. A former top college point guard with lots of good history as a coach and offensive minded coach and he cant get a top point guard here. Maybe Fran doesnt want a one and doner.

Well there won't be two Mac's playing next year unless Fran jumps in the fray......

Need to upgrade a few positions, the 3 will be the exception, obvious reason why that will be

More than obvious Fran will go after the 5 spot again but he needs to go 6'10 or taller with skill unless Owen can step right in

In what world? Lol

You're spot on. He totally plays like he's taller than everyone else, drives and realizes he's not, pivots then travels or wastes a possession.

He’d start next year so why would he transfer?
Why are there so many transfers in the NCAA every year? It's the new way of life in college sports. Get use to guys leaving that you don't think would. Why'd Frederick, Toussaint and Moss leave when they where going to be starters next year? Maybe Perkins sees without Kris and Filip this team is going to struggle to make the tournament and he wants to play in the Dance his senior year. That being said I haven't seen anything credible about him wanting to leave.

Definitely a position of need. We lose Murray and are left with Pmac. Very thin at this position next year.
With both Sandforts, and Patrick I disagree.
Something everyone should keep in mind, right now we have 1 likely open scholarship (Kris). Other than that we would need guys to leave in order to take others.
I suspect we get some departures, but I doubt we see a mass exodus. I don’t buy into the TP conversation that’s happening in this thread (go back and watch his postgame interview from Indiana from just last week; that’s a guy who loves Fran and the program). Right now I’d expect at least one of JO and Mulvey, maybe even both. Other than that we will just have to wait and see.

No, we know for a fact there was no swarm.

We don't know what Fran will do with it now.

If he chooses not to use it now he should be fired before next season starts.

Not using it is 100% not an option.
