*** Official Transfer Portal-Palooza Thread ***

Iowa will need to get two front court players and a wing defender out of the transfer portal this off season.
I could see Ladje and Owen getting some serious minutes at the 4 if we get a really experienced and quality 5. And if we get 2 bigs that would still leave pmac and Peyton as our 3. I think we'll be fine at the 1 and 2.

Mohawkeye - I respectfully disagree with your assessment of Dix's defense. From where I sit, the reason why he is seeing limited minutes (at most) is because other teams are absolutely exploiting his inability to stop the person to whom he is assigned to defend. Several teams starting isolating their offensive player against Dix and were getting easy lay-up after easy lay-up after easy lay-up. When PMac took his leave of absence, Dix was touted as potentially playing some PG and saw time as an off-guard. He demonstrated an ability to score. But, the "cost" of Dix on the floor outweighs the "benefit" and, as a result, there haven't been any minutes of consequence for him. Against Indiana, they couldn't get Dix (and Ugundele) off the court fast enough after about 2-3 minutes of court time.

I'm hopeful that Dix will evolve into a really good player. He's one hell of an athlete and he's coming off a horrific injury. This post isn't meant to conclude that Dix will be a liability in years to come. Not in the least. Hell, Sandfort's defense is not great right now but it has improved from last year (hopefully it will continue to improve). Dix is just a defensive liability (and a big one) right now . . . I'd be hard pressed to say that he's much better than Bohannon at this point.
We will have to respectfully disagree about Dix’s defense. He made some expected freshmen mistakes but he mostly kept in front of his man and when he did get beat he used his length to bother the shot. I really focused on him quite a bit and I think he’s our best defending guard. And will be a great defender before he’s done.

For a true freshman Dix was a very complete player and pretty good defender. He has really good vision of what is going on at both ends of the court.

He needs to learn how to stay with his man on defense.
I think honestly he tried but he’s not quick enough to guard a perimeter player. I’d like to see him bulk up just a little for next year and strictly defend interior players.

Peyton is an underrated rebounder and while a chucker for sure, he can make a decent pass or two.
Agree. A sneaky rebounder who knows position.

His ball handling and passing are really exceptional. I’ve noticed that Fran has him bring the ball up court more often than not because he’s a good ball handler, good passer and can see the whole court because of his size. Plus, he can pull up and shoot a 3 anytime. I expect we will see even more of that next year, he’s a true point forward.

Either he or his brother need to play primarily at 3. He is a step slow against most guards.

Finding a 2 will be a priority if, as widely rumored, Perkins enters the portal after the season is over. The last minutes of yesterday's game likely didn't encourage him to stick around for next year.

I'm dead serious, I've never heard about Perkins leaving.

I'd imagine we would see Mulvey, Josh O, Bowen as one foot out the door. Shoot, maybe even Ulis. I don't see Perkins leaving... he's played a big role but does have games where he is just off.

If you see him as a better defender than Ulis, Perkins, Sandfort and Bowen … well, I just don’t know what to say. You must think Fran is a f’ing idiot because Dix has shown than he can score. Why would Fran sit the best defensive guard on the team who can also shoot the ball?

Because he wasn’t handling the press like Fran wanted him to and turned the ball over. Same thing with Bowen. Fran has a very low tolerance for turnovers, which I respect. And he shades towards veterans in pressure situation. Which I also respect.

And he will be immediately eligible to play, right, with one year eligibility?

Gotta love the portal potty, man!
How will he be available immediately after a second transfer in 2 years?

Thought you only get 1 of those?

Am I missing something?

We pursued him last offseason. I’d assume we’ll pursue again.

One year left.

Texas Tech lost by 16 tonight to West Virginia and he then tweets out that he's entering the transfer portal. Couldn't even wait a day. He was 2-4 from the field, 4 points, 4 rebounds in 24 minutes. Just 2 fouls.

It will be interesting to see if Fran is still interested

it seems that anything goes now a days; not even sure if there is a limit on how many times you can transfer
Theres never been a limit on how many times you can transfer only how many times you had to sit out.

Seems like theve basically given up on trying to have rules anymore though.

Fardaws will have to make a case to be immediately eligible at his new school.

NCAA Council votes to limit eligibility for 2nd-time transfers to curb ballooning portal usage

Nearly 2,000 FBS players opted to enter the transfer portal following the 2022 regular season

The NCAA Division I Council approved legislation on Wednesday to limit waivers for second-time transfers. Now, undergraduate players who transfer will have specific guidelines they must meet in order to be eligible for immediate playing time starting with the 2023-24 season or risk sitting out a year in between transfers.

First, a player can receive immediate eligibility if they have a physical injury or mental health condition that pushed them to transfer from a school. Additionally, the NCAA will consider "exigent circumstances" that could force a player to leave an institution -- like sexual assault or abuse. No other factors will be considered, including academic considerations or playing time.

The new rules are an attempt to rein in the number of players using transfer portal, which has exploded since it launched four years ago. Nearly 2,000 players in FBS alone entered the portal in the first transfer window following the 2022 regular season. At least 120 quarterbacks alone have entered the portal, including a handful that were expected to enter the 2023 NFL Draft and opted for new starts at the college level instead.

Notably, Rice quarterback JT Daniels just landed at his fourth institution after leaving West Virginia. He played at USC from 2018-19 and Georgia from 2020-21 before starting for the Mountaineers in 2022. With these rules, Daniels would need to graduate in between each of his final two transfers or sit out and risk burning a year of eligibility.

The new NCAA rule only applies to undergraduate transfers. Players who graduate will still be eligible to play immediately at their next stops.

His coach left and there were since shady things going on at Tech. I think he will get a free pass.

I’m guessing he will qualify under the graduate transfer rule, which means he doesn’t have to sit out.

He really would be a good fit at Iowa and no one would feature him better than Fran. Hopefully he takes note of Rebraca’s success.

+-This whole discussion reminds me of a pro team discussion. How college sports have become. As someone who remembers back in the day--it's sad. -Not against transfers under the former rule

, but some schools turning over rosters year after year? Buying teams is more like it.
+Hurrumph.

Aimaq sounds like a definite target. I always wonder about guys making multiple transfers, but I trust Fran's ability to assess skills and character.

Not sure about his character.

* He announced that he would be entering the transfer portal last night, soon after they lost. He couldn't even wait until today.

* He took the be$t NIL deal he could get last time around. Fran lo$t out (actually, Fran probably dropped out) in the bidding for hi$ Service$.

It will be interesting to see what happens with him and if he even visits Iowa City. Was Fran turned off last go around? We'll soon find out.

Today was a great example of Howard's coaching prowess. Michigan went over 15 minutes in the second half without a field goal. Rutgers plays good defense, but that is pathetic.
Hunter with 21 first half points then doesn't even see the ball down low for the entire 2nd half. Better come to Iowa where we love feeding the big guy. He saw Luka here so need Cade to get in his ear. Anyone with a hot daughter should have her tweet him.

Donating. If this is the Golden Era of Iowa basketball I'm terrified of the future especially with our pedestrian results this year. We just can't seem to maintain momentum after good seasons in regards to recruiting and this seems to be a problem with all Iowa sports other than women's basketball and men's wrestling

Connor is gone and P-mac isn't going to be getting any of Perkins minutes. If Perkins put in the same effort P mac did yesterday we might be sitting on a 2 seed right now. Murray too. First I've heard of Perkins heading to the transfer portal. And Fran went after guys hard in the portal last year but we lost out most likely because we had no nil. I know we were 2nd in one bigs choices and he got paid. Fran wants all of his players to get nil money. He may have to change his approach about equal amounts to get the portal players here for 1 or 2
With both Sandforts, and Patrick I disagree.
Something everyone should keep in mind, right now we have 1 likely open scholarship (Kris). Other than that we would need guys to leave in order to take others.
I suspect we get some departures, but I doubt we see a mass exodus. I don’t buy into the TP conversation that’s happening in this thread (go back and watch his postgame interview from Indiana from just last week; that’s a guy who loves Fran and the program). Right now I’d expect at least one of JO and Mulvey, maybe even both. Other than that we will just have to wait and
Is Patrick on scholarship? If not, maybe Dad could foot the bill and free up another scholarship? Do it for the team?
