one thing you refuse to spend money on

There are actually a lot of things I refuse to spend money on,... being a tightwad is the training ground for becoming wealthy...

Greenstate is not a bank, Fred. They just act like one but don't pay taxes. Makes it easier to pay those refunds.

You're biased

And if a Credit Union provides more value than a bank does, move your money.

When banks compete, you win......

Feel like this was a question on a podcast with Dave Ramsey recently (saw a reel or something). His answer was “anything cheap” Shaddup Dave.

same, I used to avoid them too until our bank started doing full reimbursements

unless you just don't want that ATM to get any money, which I can also respect
My bank has a lot of ATMs, so it’s rare that I have to use another one anyway.

Food delivery (Uber/DoorDash) used to be fine. Now, either the food establishments/or delivery services have ruined it.

The prices in app are marked up ($10 burger is now $13 in app), add on delivery fees, plus tip, you paying almost double instead of a "little" more to have it delivered.

My serious answer is this. I typically buy and cook most of the food in the house. So when someone wants to DoorDash it’s saying not only are they too lazy to make something to eat for themselves or others in the house, they are too lazy to order takeout and go get it, and would rather spend our money on a more expensive DoorDash menu, and then pay a tip to the delivery person. And we live 10 minutes away tops from anyplace people would order from. The exception I will make for this pizza delivery and I’m not sure exactly why i do. Another exception is room service at a hotel, as the prices are about the same as the hotel restaurant, and we have no ability to cook ourselves.

I probably have food delivered once a month, usually in the winter when I hate going out.

But "lazy" is not a fair word. I'm hardly lazy; I've had two jobs most of my life, I have worked out every morning for decades, I volunteered for every youth and school organization imaginable when my kids were growing up (as did my wife) and for the last few years I've been President of our HOA - which takes up probably 20 hours a week of my time.

Because I work from home while my wife has always had a 30-minute commute, I also get up every morning and get breakfast for myself and her. And I make dinner every night, as well. I'm the guy people turn to when they need to get shit done. But every now and then it's worth an extra $10 to spend more time doing all of the stuff that I do without taking a break to run to pickup Chinese.

Honestly, I can't think of anything I "refuse" to spend money on. Anything is potentially something that's worth it, to me personally. I don't spend money on expensive vehicles. I don't buy coffee at Starbucks. I don't have multiple streaming services. But I will spend money on any of them if I feel like it; so it's not as if I refuse to spend money on any of those things.

Food delivery has its place
Depending on a person’s situation, I agree. For me it’s not my preference. My daughter (no pics) uses Door Dash frequently because where she lives parking is an expensive hassle. Where I live parking is free and easy. So I’d rather just pick up the food myself.

Good point. As a rule I try not to order anything at a restaurant that I make at home. I want something different.
Yup, same here. The major exception to that would be when I order wings somewhere. But I think that's about it.

Didn’t have a way to get ahold of you and this has no connection to the thread…but did you know there is a defunct trout hatchery close to your route? Built in the late 1800’s/early 1900’s. Kind of cool to check out.

I did not know that. Do you know roughly where?

Yep. If you come through Hartman, thru PSprings Park heading west on the paved trail, there are some single track trails that head down a steep hill. If you get to the 218 bridge you’ve gone too far. The water from a spring there was used for the people of CF in the same timeframe. Kind of a cool piece of local history.

Pretty sure I know the spot you're talking about. I'll have to check it out once things dry out a bit this spring. I appreciate the knowledge!

Did you just tell him how to get to your van down by the river?

Tell us you’re bald without telling us…
I kinda wish I was at this point. Haven't pulled the trigger, just afraid of having to maintain shaving my head all the time really. Right now it's just clippers once a week to maintain it.

I'm different on this. I used to cook events and cater BBQ. People would occasionally see me in a BBQ restaurant and be surprised. I told them I like it when someone else does the cooking every now and then.
