OSU Game Postponed?

Really? We must be getting softer these days. I can't think of a time back in the day where weather, especially weather that was forecasted 24+ hours in advance, led to a B10 BB delay.

Is my memory fuzzy or is this a new thing? I can think of some pretty hairy weather days where the games were held as scheduled.
They will play as long as the visiting team and the officials are there, even if it means an empty arena. The problem here is that Iowa hasn't been able to fly to get there.

The computers like Iowa. The analytics have them right there with a Wisconsin, for example. It’s bizarre to me as well.
IMHO, Iowa currently has talent similar to Wisconsin, but look at the difference in the won-lost columns. And I think that's generally been the case for years, similar to football. On paper, Iowa usually looks a lot like Wisconsin, but the Badgers get much better results than the Hawkeyes. Must be that water in Madison. Or could it be something else?

I always find myself looking forward to games - if only just somewhat - even if know a loss is quite certain, but at least we'll be saved all the frustration over lots of things this evening, with the game being PPd.

Yes, we are. School gets cancelled now if there is even a threat of a few inches of snow. Or if it’s “too cold.”

Yes, I’m a bitter old man, but we NEVER had school cancelled due to the cold. I remember waiting for the bus in 15 below temperatures. In Cedar Rapids, it usually took almost 10 inches of snow to get school cancelled. I can recall only 3…..maybe 4 times when school got cancelled. And we got out early one afternoon in Jr. High when we had an ice storm.

School starts are delayed when the wind chill is -20. It is designed to prevent kids from getting frost bite as they walk to school or wait to get on a bus. If your torqued by that policy, so be it.

And yet……we had no problem doing it, nor did many generations before me.

No….I’m not ”torqued.” Just another smh example of the wussification of America. This country is soft and getting softer.

But you’re right. When we have idiotic parents that send their kids out to wait for a bus in below freezing temperatures wearing a hoodie, shorts, and nothing covering their head, we can’t expect them to “bundle up” when it gets near zero. Better to just cancel school so they can stay home, play video games, and stare at their phone all day.

And these kids I see waiting for a school bus in freezing temperatures with little protection? It’s not just one kid. And it ain’t poor kids, either.

Wisky has a better roster.
Two seven foot centers.
POY in Davis.
Hepburn is a true PG who is under control.
Davison hitting 46% from the arc.
Wahl is a stud.

They have much more talent.
That is on Fran.
Two 7 footers who are skinny, unathletic and barely factors. They did absolutely nothing to even slow Kockburn down.

Hepburn is nothing special.

Their second best player has been Brad Davison.

Whal is good, ill agree there.

Davis is great but the Murrays are better than anyone else on their roster.

Theres no argument to be made that Fran is getting the most out of his pieces this year.

We swept (3-0) the dang Badgers last year!

Never miss a game, but now tonight I will be able to do trivia at the local VFW.

too many snowflakes and too many damn litigious people out there these days.
They'd end up suing the bus company or some damn thing if they had an issue with their kid on the bus during a little weather etc....

Just because it wasn’t like this before doesn’t mean it was a good idea previously to have kids standing outside for even a short period of time. Also, kids make choices to wear or not wear their warm clothes. Many parents aren’t home when kids walk to school or wait for the bus.

I suppose you walked uphill to and from school in 6 feet of snow, right.

I don't think that's exactly his point. The main overall theme of his argument is people are becoming whimps. And he's not wrong.

Or maybe one day of school was not worth a child risking serious injury or even death when it can easily be rescheduled to a better day. 🤷

As long as that doesn’t make us soft.

You're early post was correct. You are an angry old man. You also seem to have memory issues. I was in junior high in '80-'82 and high school from '82-'86 in a small rural NE Iowa town. There would be a delayed start due to extreme cold at least once, if not several times, during January/February. I also remember the University of Iowa canceling classes at least once, if not twice, due to extreme weather while I attended from '86-'90.

Some people just want to gripe for the sake of griping and to thump their chest to make themselves sound tough.

What is shocking is that Iowa is only a 5 point underdog.. Favored by 4 at Penn State. 3 Point dog at Wisc.
2.5 underdog to Purdue at home. Favored at ISU. What in the hell is Vegas seeing in the Hawks.
They should watch Fran try to manage a rotation for a while, we would be big underdogs in most games.

That is on Fran.

The Wisconsin center averages 9ppg on middling 48% from field for a center and 4.3 rebound/game in 24 mpg--not that great. Statistically, Rebraca is pretty similar. What Iowa gives up is Fran plays too much small ball.
Fran refuses to play a true center, If Fran played Josh/Mulve even 10 minuters per game, that would change the reboundng.

Wahl is averaging 11ppg on about 50% from field. Kris Murray would be similar if he played.

Davis has more impact than Keegan because Davis is guard and has the ball in his hands more and also he is incredible rebounder...that said, it looks like Davis 3pt shooting is trailing off...34.6% for season...Davis had a rough game vs Illini.

Hepburn vs JoeT, I't take JoeT.

Brad Davison is the big difference at 15ppg and 37% 3pt shooting on season...the 46% you quote might be B1G, but on larger sample size over entire season, I don't think he will stay up at that level.

I see a Wisconsin team that is overachieving for their talent and I see an Iowa team with similar talent/potential that is underperforming because the coach plays favorites, ignores rebounding/defense. The 2G is the clear weak spot for Iowa and Fran needs to move on from JBO.

Reminds me of the 2001-02 season when the betting public just never seemed to catch up with how bad we were. We went 9-23-1 against the spread that year.

It’s been easy $ betting against the Hawks all year.

Especially if you follow in game betting when the spread is adjusting.

This Iowa team is soft.

Life is much more enjoyable when you're not getting angry over things that don't affect you. I used to find myself getting all worked up over nonsense, but that negativity builds up and festers. Whining on the internet doesn't solve anything and will only contribute to your bad mood. Take a walk, hit the gym, watch something funny, all things that would have a better impact on your bad mood than complaining about children to strangers on the internet.

We took 8 cupcakes to the woodshed

Iowa-Nebraska 2013 was postponed. Hawks blew 16 point halftime lead on makeup date and lost.

Eh, it's just entertainment in the end. Exciting to see Iowa win them but main goal is the entertainment value in the winter.
I get too worked up about things if I get more invested in it.

Pretty sure that was the game where Isiah Thomas punched Steve Krafcsin and got ejected. It was still brutally cold, I remember walking up Grand Avenue backwards to block the wind...
He was still in high school then. Got to IU that fall. I think it might have happened in '81 because my recollection is that we won the game where that happened. We lost in IC to IU in '80 and beat them there in '81. The '80 game might have been when Thomas and Boyle had the head collision.
