Can all the experts here tell me why Denver didn't just let NE score when they were in the red zone? Thanks in advance for the insight into your vast Coaching wisdom.

Because Denver's trying to win the game. Who ever has most pts wins. Why let Pats score & potentially tie it?

That's what I thought. There was some confusion about how to handle this situation here on this board late November.

Are you saying so denver could get the ball back and try to score at the end?

Why do that when your D has played a great game and NE had no chance of taking the lead?
Especially with the BS NFL OT!

I knew NE was going to regret not kicking that FG around 5 minutes left!

Big difference.
NE needed a TD and 2pt conv to tie the game.
Michigan St needed a TD to put them in the lead. A FG wouldn't have mattered so you knew they were going for the TD on all 4 downs.

Denver's worst case scenario is that they are tied and go into OT. Our worst case scenario pretty much happened as they scored with almost no time left on the clock.
