OT---Hoiberg Cuts Kid Right Before a Final

Hoiberg could have been an adult and waited until after the final. What's a difference of a couple of hours?
He could have been honest after the last final. No other way to describe it, that was a pure bush league move.
What did the young man do to warrant such a move by Hoiberg?
The same outcome could have occurred a couple hours later or even the next day, and Hoiberg would not come across near the douchebag he looks like now.
Unless the kid committed some sort of significant team/school violation I just think Hoiberg was being an idiot.
Your're making the assumption he even knew about the final. Caring about it is a whole other issue. If he didn't care about the kid coming back, he certainly didn't care about his academics. It's all about staying eligible in his eyes. Nothing more - nothing less.

All D1 Coaches know their players schedule. there's only 13 scholarship players to worry about.
To give Hoiberg the benefit of the doubt, frequently finals are not during normally scheduled class times. They can be totally different days and times than regular class. Chances are this was a scheduled meeting, if the player did not want to hear good or bad news right before finals then he should have rescheduled.
I will admit that basically being fired from Nebraska is not really something a player would be expecting going into a normal meeting. So this still makes Hoiberg a d-bag.

Having to live in the state of Nebraska and in Lincoln is bad enough. But playing for a coach like this, where you can't trust him, would be unbearable.
You're right, playing for a coach who got to the tournament nearly every season at his previous collegiate job who also has multiple NBA connections sounds terrible?
But it's called Finals week for a reason. Plain and simple. Do you really think the kid had final on his mind after being cut? Obviously Hoiberg didn't, so how much he cares about academics.

Exactly. They got exactly what they wanted. I don't think Tim Miles would have handled it this way but they didn't like Tim.
We constantly hear that coaches know absolutely everything about all their players. Hoiberg sure as **** knew when that kid had finals. But he did what he did anyways.

I'm surprised Hoiberg actually told him in person, he didn't have the balls to confront any NBA players over anything. Which is probably why he's back in college.

He was taking up a scholly and not a very good B-ball player. Seems like smart move by Hoiberg, since winning cures everything.

Totally agree. The fact that the kid studied rather than sending in a test-taker is inexcusable.
It’s been a while since we had a Creen in the league. I like how instead of sitting the kid down and explaining his lack of playing potential next season he just told him to leave. I thought scholarships were a 4 year commitment now. Maybe there’s a huge violation that’s taken place, but more likely Fred needed a roster spot.

Wait...a lot of posters here wanted Fran to Crean players and now we are bitching about the timing of when another coach does it? Unless there are extenuating circumstances, I think it is a BS move regardless of the timing.
A few fans might have wanted that, but the greater majority of us did not.
