Lotta good players missing the state tournament. DJ Carton, Tyreke Lochure, and I’m sure some others I missed.

There are also some great first round match ups as well! Should be a great week of basketball

State tournament is next week; girls this week. Boys start Tuesday, I believe. D.J. Carton's Bettendorf team taken down two years in a row by Dubuque Senior, which has a D1 player going to UNI, Noah Carter. Tyreke Locure, Des Moines North's high scoring guard, also had his season end in the substate final. On the other hand, Xavier Foster and his Oskaloosa team advanced to the tourney as did loaded Iowa City West which has Patrick McCaffery and another probable Di recruit and transfer from Regina, Even Brauns. 6-9.

Will any of these games be televised? I can't keep track of the changes. I streamed some games on the IHSAA site and assume they will be there again. Or maybe it was that they were on Sports Channel Chicago??

I believe semifinals and finals will be on Comcast Chicago!

Don't sleep on Bown Born from Norwalk. Kid is an incredible shooter and athlete.

Evan Brauns’ former team made the state tourney also. Would be nice to see both Iowa City schools win it all.

Carton's team didn't make state? I mean, I know Wieskamp didn't either, but that still seems surprising since he is the point guard and even higher rated than Joe. Are his teammates that bad or maybe he just isn't that good?

Maybe a little of both. This may seem like sour grapes but I do understand the reason that Carton didn't want to come to Iowa because of Bohannan and CMac being on scholarship. He would not have been the go to point guard at Iowa until his Jr or Sr season and with so many players that Fran feels he has to play during the games his playing time would not be to his liking.
Ohio St offered the kid and he accepted the offer but he is not a 5 star recruit in my opinion, if Wieskamp didn't make it to a 5 star status by his senior season there's no way Carton is that much better then Joe and I bet that sometime in the next 4 years he will be recruited over be the coaching staff at Ohio St.
He's a talented player for sure, but he is not even close to Marcus Paige status.

Carton would have played right away, maybe not a lot of minutes his freshman year. The following year he would have been the starter over Connor or at least played a whole lot of minutes, JBO will be gone.

Joe did take Muscatine to State last year. Carton is good, but you can defend him differently than teams had to with Joe. Carton isn't going to drop 50 plus or outscore an entire team while being double and triple teamed. What Joe did last year was remarkable and I don't think he got the national accolades that Carton got because Joe was often sick/injured during the National Camps. That's where D.J. blew up last summer. Kinda feel he's a bit of fools gold, not bad, just not 5 Star good.

My thoughts exactly. Joe carried a bunch of nobodies to state.

Paige didn't even end up being a superstar. He went off in National title game, but his career average was 13.3 points. I hope DJ is not as good as Paige, that will make watching him play at Carver Hawkeye arena less painful.

Carton ran into a pretty good team that beat them. Nothing wrong with that.

I beg to differ as he is definitely a 5* athlete and player. Would not sit behind CMac either til Jr. year. He is a pt that can go to the rim anytime he wants and plays different position than JW, hard to compare imho.

How is he a ‘transfer’? He went from a private catholic school to a public school. Probably the school, West High, where he would have gone if he hadn’t gone to Regina.

I stated last year that the Muscatine team, without Joe, was the worst 4a team I ever saw. They went to state last year. They went 0-21 this year without Joe. Joe was friggin amazing.

It still blows my kind there were people on here who weren't impressed with Joe's performance at state last year , saying he needed to work on shooting and turned it over too much.

The fact that he was playing 1 on 5 was apparently lost on them.

Kinda funny. If it were the other way around going from a public to private school there would so much whining on here from the poor guys who got beat by those “cheaters”.

I don’t think transfer is a thing in Iowa High school sports. Open enrolled maybe.

I believe his records transferred from one school to another. So yeah he transferred. Open enroll is if you leave the district. Meaning he would have to open enroll to CCA or Cedar Rapids Prairie type of thing. Unless it had changed.

Norwalk has Michael Born at point guard, but don’t forget about Tyler Endres in the middle. At 6’6” and 310, he is apparently pretty nimble. Looking forward to seeing him play basketball this coming week and OT the next 5 years.

No doubt it was Joe vs 5 and that was one thing that stood out to me. You see players transfer and go to different programs in search of a title. He stayed put and stuck it out with his classmates. That’s pretty cool and shows ya what type of character the kid has.

Carton is a legit 5 star PG. the kid could take over any game if he wanted to. The problem was he was on a decent team and he wasn’t a selfish player. He would pass the ball and again another kid who had options to transfer and join a loaded program. Instead stayed at his school and finished the year with his classmates. Wish him the best of luck at OSU

Except when they are playing the Hawkeyes.

Actually, it's Jason Bourne.
