OT- Iowa Boys State

Looks like IC West was just upset by Dubuque Senior. 39-36. I believe I heard McCaffery was held under his 20 pt average.

West scored 7pts in the 3rd and 6 in the 4th for 13....They were outdone by Senior who had 15 second half points....Fun........

Did the 'cheating MF'ers' hurt West? Was Fran at the game?

Haha that’s funny.

I didn’t see the game, was it sloppy or just slow paced? 39-36 I mean the girls were scoring that at halftime.

I half listened to the stream. West was previous low pts scored was 42 I believe. Brauns was in foul trouble most of the game and they seemed to miss him when he was out. The West guard Pepin(?) missed 2 layups and was 0-5 from three......Also, West didn't get to the line much - which surprises me as I suspect they had a height advantage....

Huh. Poor shooting, but I’d figure Patrick would take over. I think the other team has a kid that’s like 6-5 headed to UNI.

State tournament is next week; girls this week. Boys start Tuesday, I believe. D.J. Carton's Bettendorf team taken down two years in a row by Dubuque Senior, which has a D1 player going to UNI, Noah Carter. Tyreke Locure, Des Moines North's high scoring guard, also had his season end in the substate final. On the other hand, Xavier Foster and his Oskaloosa team advanced to the tourney as did loaded Iowa City West which has Patrick McCaffery and another probable Di recruit and transfer from Regina, Even Brauns. 6-9.

I was hoping to watch Tyreke & DJ at state! Bummer.... Xavier and PMac will have to do!

Noah Carter is a very good player for Senior

UNI was desperate for a strong recruiting class and they got one.

Appears there are no live streams of this week's games?

The boys streams are all on pay sites. One thing the IGHSAU has done a magnificent job of doing is keeping streams and TV coverage for their finals free. I used to look forward to watching/streaming both boys and girls events but haven't seen a boys finals for several years now that they're on pay sites.....it's really a disservice to Iowans as I'm not going to pay the fee to watch the boys events......I imagine it's true for almost everyone w/out a child/grandchild playing...….

The last state tourney (guys) game I watched was when West was in the state championship game and got beat in another low scoring affair. I actually shut that one off in the third quarter.

Since they have a ridiculously redundant leadership situation in the state would the girls and boys have different shot clocks? You know after each organization did their ‘research’ which probably include some travel paid for by the schools. Oh and raise the game fee higher to pay for it.

Iowa Boys HS definitely needs to institute a shot clock. 39-36 = paint drying.
Nah. One game out of hundreds shouldn't incite panic. Sorry not sorry.

I've seen a lot of high-scoring games this year.

If stall ball is a problem at the 4A level, tell the coaches to stop being scared. If that upsets them, tell them and their giant egos to go f*** themselves, and then see where they sit with their giant egos. Most will then actually have something to be incited by..........

See how that works? :)

After watching a lot of games earlier in the week, it's such a disservice to these kids not having a shot clock. I hope they change that soon.

Nah, shot clock is not needed.

Deal with it.

I'm sure many of you will not deal with it, and argue for why it's needed.......but it's not.

Again, deal with it.

The state has had several companies come and give presentations on using shot clocks and a couple have even offered to give them to every school for free (advertising logos) places in the gyms and obviously on the clocks. The state said no, too many issues can come up and schools already can’t find people to run the clocks and what not.

You will not see it anytime soon I’m afraid. I wonder how the new timing will affect football!

Osky up three over Winterset w/ 39 seconds.

Osky playing keep away up one with 1:00 left. Foster shoots a corner three and bricked it. Hustled back and got an easy block to take possession.

Winterset shares Illinois fight song. Turrible

Oskaloosa shares Northwesterns?

No doubt it was Joe vs 5 and that was one thing that stood out to me. You see players transfer and go to different programs in search of a title. He stayed put and stuck it out with his classmates. That’s pretty cool and shows ya what type of character the kid has.

Carton is a legit 5 star PG. the kid could take over any game if he wanted to. The problem was he was on a decent team and he wasn’t a selfish player. He would pass the ball and again another kid who had options to transfer and join a loaded program. Instead stayed at his school and finished the year with his classmates. Wish him the best of luck at OSU

Yes Carton will likely do well at OSU. They have a good class coming in as well. College game will showcase his ability more, 30 second clock forces constant action.

So never root for either school is what you're telling me? :)

30 second clock forces constant action.
And that's the issue at the HS level.

Especially at the lower levels, constant action is not a thing you should just force upon teams. A shot clock is not going to make bad teams any better. It's only going to perpetuate their deficiencies. And the only negative thing it could do to good teams is make them shoot more, which on cold shooting nights could help keep lesser teams in the game.......even though the shot clock was originally suppose to be this equalizer for teams that wanted to keep the ball to themselves, and make their opponent play defense for longer periods of time.

This is a case where the few examples do not, and should not, outweigh the many.
