OT:MSU vs Maryland

Sparty as usual playing "physical defense" AKA fouling and not getting called.
It’s the same thing that happened to our big men. If you drive , or take a shot while trying to move toward the basket sparty bigs are going to keep their arms straight up and body you hard. They move you in feet not inches. Never called. It’s totally frustrating.

MSU has good interior play. But it all starts with Winston. He is the best point in the BIG and arguably the country. He is playing at a really high level and operates their offense how he sees fit.
We need to stay glued to him on Thursday and unfortunately Bohannon is not the guy. Moss maybe, CMac maybe. Winston is the major concern.

Maryland cuts it to 12. Trying to make a come back. Hope they get close enough to put some pressure on MSU so they can't relax, but MSU still comes out with the win. . .

Yea, basically. I've said it on other threads too...there is unquestionably no team we match up with worse in the B1G than MSU. Not just because they're the best team but they have all the personnel to perfectly counter us and exploit our weaknesses. Purdue would be second on that list and I think we're much more capable of causing problems for Maryland and Michigan. That said, it's a good time to catch them....following a tough run of games, in IC, and in the midst of a long winning streak. For those reasons, I certainly can't say for sure it'd be another rout, but there's a good possibility it still might be.

To make interior shots, you must be able to play through contact against MSU, and then, you need to not get frustrated and use your hands to retaliate. Zebras seem to only look at what your hands are doing, and MSU is well-trained to body you out of your rhythm and even off balance. Tough match up, as noted, but this should be a good time to be playing them. They have to be feeling pretty damn confident after the first rout of the Hawks and their string or easy wins against quality teams. GO HAWKS.

Iowa is their trap game as Michigan St. must travel to Purdue on Sunday. Hope we catch them over looking us since we didn't give them much of a fight in East Lancing...
