OT: Underwood to Illinois

Don't understand why it will take 3 years. There's a top 15 class coming in. We should know in the first year what we're going to get as far as coaching. If the high school kids like what they see, he'll be fine. If not, Whitman won't wait too long to take corrective action.

P.S. I haven't seen a single post that suggests "Illini fans are certain they just found the answer to all their woes." If you look at the reaction around the basketball world, you'll see people are pretty much unanimous in thinking this was a good hire for Illinois.

Time will tell but it will be less than 3 years.

I know I JUST read something about the top third of the Big Ten. I know I read post after post about Groce. And I know how that turned out.

You want to buy another car without a test drive? Go for it. Just don't complain when your neighbors think you're getting too worked up too fast. It's one thing in your own home (Illini Loyalty) to get excited. But, you're running around telling everybody in the neighborhood and we've seen this crud before.

The Illinois will be at the bottom of the B10 for the next two years for sure. Unproven coach in a competitive league with his own players

"Top third" = "the answer to all our woes."? Hahaha

I thought my post was restrained and reasonable....

How's this: This yokel hasn't proven anything on any level yet. It will be another crash and burn for a has been program.

Better?

You seem confident. Must be so. Time will tell.
Not hard when the facts are staring you in the face. The B10 will be loaded next year....and the Illini will not be. Underwood is UNPROVEN and if you do not realize that then I cant help you. SFA played in a league that is not good and the only reason you know anything about him is because of that. 5-7 years maybe, but less than 3---stupid statement

What would be better is if you'd learned something from bragging about Groce. "Top Third" = "Restrained and reasonable"?

And, I didn't say the hire was bad. I said you are getting too worked up, too soon, on an opponents board, again.

I would bet a lot of money on that if I were you.

I would like you to point out any part of my post that is "bragging" or "too worked up."

P.S. I never said top third.

It's interesting that Stephen F. Austin was mediocre this year. They went 18-14, and KenPom had them as the 243rd best team in the country.

Did Underwood leave the cupboard bare? It would have been his fourth year as head coach at SFA, and the first year where he recruited most of the leading contributors on the team. I would be somewhat concerned about this if I were an Illinois fan.

I suppose you could spin it in the opposite direction and say that without his coaching, the team tanked. It is a good sign that Oklahoma State fans all seem disappointed they weren't able to keep him, and it looks like it was a good move to retain the assistant that recruited Tilmon.

Illinois considers itself a basketball school, just like
Nebraska clams it is a football school. Ultimately,
Illinois will get the recruits they need, the question
is always "can the coach develop the basketball
team chemistry to be a winner?"

Bottom Line: Groce had the talent on his team,
but never developed a winner. Now, Underwood
will get his opportunity.

I've always wondered, do you save these little escape the point comments in a notebook or something? Or do you have them memorized?

"Escape the point"? That's rich. What point? Did you cite any part of my posts that was "bragging" or "getting too worked up"? Nope.

Like I said ... you're just not that good at this. You don't have any actual knowledge, just hate. Makes for boring discussion.

If you came on here expecting to find people who will coddle you and say what a great hire the Illini made, that the future is bright and sunny? Yes, I'm not good at that. I've seen it all before and not just with Groce. You people loved Webber as well until you didn't.

It'll take a few years, and I'll base my not existing knowledge on this as a fact, A FEW YEARS, to know if Underwood has what it takes to make the Illini competitive in the Big Ten. And I've already been shown to be right that meanwhile Illini fans will be on here telling us all how great it is going to be. "Top third in the Big Ten". As to boring, you must love to be board. I didn't respond to you and start this stupid back and forth stuff, you responded to me.

But I'll tell you what. As usual the Illini need a little edge. So I'll let you have both the first and the last word here. Go ahead and wander into some off subject rant. I'm sticking to what I said to begin with. Now we get two years of the Illini bragging up their hire, and it'll take three to see if they are right or not.

Yeah....yeah....yeah....It'll be the Illini return to dominance any day now. Just like Groce. Don't you ever get tired of going to rival message boards looking for validation? Can't you get validation from your own circle jerk Illini board?
