I see no quitters on this team. None.

When others may see lack of effort, I see absolute fatigue. So many clues lately ... inability to play aggressive defense for long stretches, a step slow in getting back on defense, shots falling short due to tired legs leading to decreased shooting percentages, fewer rebounds on both ends of the floor. And last night in particular, the uncharacteristic number of fouls we committed, many due to an inability to react fast enough.

I don't know why this affects the Hawkeyes more than some of the other B1G teams. It's frustrating for all of us. Exhaustion does not excuse what is happening, but it is the one factor that explains our difficulties in so many different areas during the games of the last few weeks.

Hopefully, our coaches will find a way to give our players a physical and mental break in the 5 days between Nebraska on Sun. and the beginning of the B1G Tourney.

GO HAWKS!!

Hopefully doing something different than the 5 days between games we just had before the Wisconsin game. That clearly didn’t work.

I'm physically tired from just watching this train wreck unfold the last few games.
Everyone plays the same damn amount of games. I dont want to hear the tired team excuses.
That's a lame cop out.....

Looks like a pretty normal year.

An article that could also be applied to 2019. There have been three late season collapses over the past six seasons (not counting last year when it was bad throughout the full conference schedule).

Most members of the Iowa sports media and Fran’s most loyal supporters can pretend there is no late season collapse pattern, but the record speaks for itself.

There's nothing unique about Iowa's schedule, travel, or anything else. Penn State looks energized. So does Rutgers. NW beat Ohio State. Illinois is coming on strong. Just look at the body language of the Hawkeyes. They looked lately the same way they looked most of last year--beaten in the first five minutes. No energy, no enthusiasm, no leadership. Unless they can pull off a miracle and blow a reeling Nebraska out AND win at least a game in the BTT, this team deserves nothing but for this season to end ASAP. It would be the merciful thing to do.

IMO a collapase isn’t always measured by the exact halfway point or 10 games left. A 2nd half collapse to me can start at any time in the 2nd half of the season.

13/14 is a great example of this. 4-6 doesn’t sound like a major collapse. But that team finished 1-5 in the regular season, 1st round Big10 tourney loss(of course), and the play-in loss to Tennessee. 1-7 would describe more accurately how that team collapsed than a 4-6 record in the last 10 regular season games.

The reality is we dont have guards that can create off the dribble besides Joe and hes an injured freshman. By the second go around teams are more mentally prepared to smother the shooters, take away strengths and the refs are less prepared to blow the whistle.

It equals out to Iowa basically being physically dominated which results in losing confidence which leads to lack of effort.

Basically Fran has failed to bring in the type of guards necessary to compete in this league.

Tyler Cook is supposed to be this teams backbone because hes the guy who cant be physically overmatched but when he folded up the rest of the team lost their faith they could win.

Nice that you are trying to stay positive, but Iowa has less reason to be fatigued than most other teams. We haven't had serious injury problems and no one has to play long minutes. Look at MSU, for example. They lost two of their key players. Winston is playing huge minutes and has the ball in his hands a lot. Have they lost it, like Iowa? We are just NOT playing good basketball, on both ends of the floor. I'm not sure why, but I see some players standing and observing at times, and others hanging their heads. I think it is more a lack of toughness than fatigue.

Foe those who say it's not fatigue, how does that explain the early season winning? If we just suck, why did we only start to suck now?

I just don’t see how fatigue accounts for the fact that over the past month, Iowa hasn’t been able to buy a shot or effectively run a half court offense. Fatigue would account for an inability to get back on defense or get out in transition, but the offense just isn’t running smoothly. Ball movement sucks, and the passes being made aren’t with a purpose. There’s dribbling around at the top of the key aimlessly. Chemistry and confidence look like the biggest issues to me, maybe fatigue is a factor

Both Francis and Kirk stated that Iowa had good looks but the shots weren't falling. They said it will come and I agree. As for being exhausted physically, I say no because many other teams playing the same number of games are playing with enthusiasm and purpose. The only thing I can say that may be a possibility is that they have "head" issues, distractions, confidence, and a lost "connection". I look for them to reset, and move on starting tomorrow.

No they are not exhausted.....

Garza can't be tired. I think he only played 13 minutes vs Wisky?
I heard today that Garza isn't going to start tomorrow. They plan on putting
him in after the first 5 min.. He can't foul out if he's sitting on the bench...
Time to change things up a little..

Can Coach and Staff?? get tough Hawks Up for Biggest Game of year. They get paid for that no? Hawk Players Tough..

If they are physically exhausted, and this is in no way being critical of the players, then what is it going to take to produce a team, who can run to the end? If they are exhausted, what does that say for the BBT? What does that say for the NCAA or the unmentionable tournament? One and done in the BBT and a no show in the big dance? Other teams are running on all 8 cylinders, yet ours seems to have fallen flat on their asses. Apparently Fran is the best of the current bunch for the performance we have seen at least up to recently. Take him out of the picture, the assistants can't do anything to keep any momentum. Case in point, the last two games. And they are supposed to have head-coaching experience! Can see why they are no monger head-coaches.

I'm not sure why fans want to point to one thing and say THAT is the reason for the way they've played the last 4-6 weeks. Physically exhausted? Mentally? No guards? Fran yells too much? End of the season coaching is poor? Why can't it be a little of all of the above and many other factors as well?

When the Hawks win a game by 6, everyone feels like this is a good team. Well, 6 points is two 3-pointers - miss two 3's and a FT and it's a loss. Most of the teams in the B1G are very close together, so it doesn't take much to turn a W into an L.

I find a hard time believing fatigue plays a part, as we’ve run a pretty deep bench all season.

They’re certainly lacking the quicks to get off screens, beat the first man off the dribble and respond quickly in our zone. I say bomb out of the B1G Tourney and bunker in over the next few days. Just work on getting in rhythm. Scout out our first opponent and know exactly where we can pressure their offense, and have the advantages on their defense.

And then hope that the adrenaline (which has been missing) kicks in and these guys start firing.

I doubt this slump gets fixed any time soon..guys, I hope I am wrong....

I hope they find a way to kick debbie around...

I hope the Hawks go on a streak the next few games...

Indiana is proving today that Rutgers sucks and will probably always be mid to lower-tier bottom-feeders is this league..

Indiana has NOT had a good year to their own standards either...

We all know what Rutgers did to the Hawks the other night...

Iowa also beat Indiana twice. I think it’s a demonstration of the relative parity in this conference
