Such a waste of time and taxpayer money.
Not at all. While the investigation doesn’t cover the penalties the NCAA will level…

This was needed. These kids are bettin on their own schools, sports and sports in which they played.

There has to be a zero tolerance culture in place for betting on your school/sport.

Iowa DCI just happened to be the first to catch them. I would have applauded this no matter the state or school.

Unless you are betting on an underdog, house take is at least 10%. By your assumption, you are also guessing that a person would win multiple times before having to reload. And generally, most gamblers don't just flip a coin which would throw any long term mathematical probabilty out of the window.

House take is roughly 5%. That is their entire goal in a sportsbook.

Using a typical -110 point spread:

If I was to bet 110 on the dog and win....I get 210 back.
If you was to bet 110 on the fav and lose....you get 0 back.

220 dollars taken in by the sportsbook. I get 210 of it, the casino gets 10. That 10 is what the sportsbook is after. It's free money. ..they do not want risk. A perfect line would be one that had exactly the same amount of money on both sides at -110.

If I was to over time place 410 such $110 bets at -110 and went 50/50...

I would have placed $45,100 in bets. In my 205 loses...I have a net back of 0. In my 205 wins I would have a net payout of $43,050.

The sportsbooks profit from me is $2,050. That is a net profit of 4.55% for the casino.

That is what the sporstbook is after. That is why you see horse racing so prominently featured...ever bet on that is a guaranteed profit.

Why do you think he’ll be ok with the legal system?
PJ will plead down, use a deferred judgement and be sentenced to probation. Will have to give a mugshot and dna sample, but most likely won't spend a single night in Nevada.

Why? First time offender, current student in good standing, student athlete, etc. Most likely his probation will be through the Center for Creative Justice, which is VERY lenient.

I'd still like to know if they were betting for or against their school. I know betting in general, specially on your own school is against the rules, but to me it's different if they were placing bets for their school to win, rather than lose.

I used to agree with the bet for your team to win being ok mentality, however sometimes you are privy to knowledge on your team that others aren't. Betting for your team to win is one thing but betting for your team to win when you know so and so is going to get his shirt pulled or be back from injury is much different.

We're in agreeance that for the kids who bet on their own games, they should be banned from sport for the rest of their lives.

For everyone else, I don't see the point in tarnishing their name and reputation because they placed wagers on the stanley cup, Iowa WBB, or the kentucky derby. The DCI completed a months long investigation, for what has amounted to the same repurcussion's as a speeding ticket for the majority involved. I have a hard time believing that the money, time and resources that were allocated to the investigation couldn't have been better spent somewhere else. So annoying that the one time government decides to be competent at its job, it F's over both of our in-state universities. This was a national story that dragged both schools through the mud unneccessarily.

Maybe you were talking about wrestlers but several of the footballers bet negatively (the under) on their own team, in games they played in.
