Parris commits

I don't consider Cassiopi a settle. Gable is the only HWT prospect in the country that is without a doubt a better prospect. Several others that are very good, but at similar levels. Cassiopi and Kerk are both in that group.

Grouping a World Champ with Cass? Holy shit.

I get the Gable scenario, but there's only two World Champs in that group. Him and Kerk.

Are you trying to say that Cadet World Championships don't mean much? Now I'm confused.
Don't be obtuse. Evaluate each person on an individual basis. I'm saying that a Cadet World Championship isn't the end all be all. Its not outlandish at all to suggest that Cass and the rest of the current heavy prospects that are not Gable S. are on a similar tier. I think Kerk is a phenomenal HWT prospect but acting like Cass is just an afterthought compared to Kerk is ridiculous IMO.

Tough call, because we surely don't have money for two heavyweights. (Three including Costello, who'd be the best third-string heavyweight in the NCAA.) But if you've got a talent like Kerk who has a strong interest in the program, you have to at least have a conversation. You know, like we did with Brooks (sarcasm).

That said, I'm bullish on Cass. Heavyweight is not our weak spot.

There's another heavy out there that I was made aware has a HUGE interest in the Hawks. One that I feel has slipped under the radar due to an early verbal... He gives all the heavys listed all they want and then some IMO. Could be a package deal with another area hammer in the 2020 class if the staff plays their cards right. "Stay woke" as the kids say.
While we may have differing opinions on the talent of Cass and other Heavies, I am intrigued by the 'package deal' aspect of your post. Are Kennedy and Kerk very good friends? Is Kerk's college choice going to be a big factor in Kennedy's decision? If so that changes the dynamic of the situation a bit.

Kerk and Kennedy are very close. They go to all Gopher Wrestling Club practices together. ;)

I believe Kerk is still technically committed to Gophers. He is searching for options if he outgrows 197, which may happen. Doesn't make a ton of sense for anyone to have both Kerk and Gable at heavyweight for two years. I hope he stops growing(doubtful) or gray shirts a few years haha.

Kerk option for IA only makes sense if big Cass doesn't have a lot of scholly money tied up in him.

Awfully charitable of the Gophers to train our future Hawks for us! ;)

Kerk is a great prospect no doubt, but Jarod Verkleeren was also a Cadet World Champ.

The Cass/Telford comparisons are ridiculous... Two styles that couldn't be more different. I have no idea how anyone could watch Cass and have him remind them of Telford.

Did you watch Telford in High School? Because, that is the right way to compare a similar level recruit that IS still in High School. Remember, Telford started High School at 135 then jumped to 189 as a sophomore, before moving to heavyweight as a junior. The guy had lightweight attacks and lit up the scoreboard.

DI 285 is simply a different beast. Hell, even Snyder has some difficulty getting to his offense when wrestling the really big guys like Coon or Medberry. Still, the point wasn't so much that Cass and Telford's wrestling are the same. It was the success level I expect. I think Cass will be a similarly consistent 4-6 kind of guy like Telford was. Should be a strong AA candidate each season, but the elite of the weight will be a small step ahead of him.

It's all a battle for 2nd place once Steveson starts, I will predict he goes 4x undefeated unless he gets hurt. My problem with Iowa heavies the last several years is they are very limited on their offense and don't seem to pick much up. Stoll is one of the most boring wrestlers for me to watch (he's up there with Tony Nelson for all time exciting heavy weights..) as he doesn't do anything other than an underhook for 90% of his matches. Hope his knee recovers and he shuts me up by putting guys away this year, but I have been a bit less than whelmed with what Iowa coaching has done for the heavies. Before we get too excited about Cass's projection, I think it's good to take note from Flo's recent article about how lop sided true blue chip talents are from second tier. A career like Joey Dance's is amazing for 95% of D1 athletes, but he still scored as many points in his career as Zain Retherford did last year alone. 4th place finishes up and down the line up are nice, but not going to win NCAA team titles in the current environment. Penn State and tOSU have too much high end horse power and teams like Oklahoma State and even Michigan now are bringing in top tier guys consistently. It's an interesting time to be a college wrestling fan.

I don't think Okie state has done THAT well recruiting, certainly not better than us the past few years. They had a big 2015 class but after that, its pretty much just Fix and Gfeller for top tier recruits.

I'll take our 16-17-18 classes vs. theirs any day. It's tOSU and PSU we need to be making up ground on with the recruiting not OSU IMO, but Smith does as good a job as any at developing talent.

Michigan has had back to back good & great recruiting classes, will be interesting to see how they develop with the young talent already on the MICH roster. But this wouldn't be the first time Michigan has had a lot of talent on their roster in recent memory.
2015

In all fairness, OkState had the #2 recruiting class in 2014 as well(the 2015 class was also #2). When you have back to back classes like that, you simply don't go after that much the next couple of years(unless you are PSU), especially when most of the starting lineup was young. In fact, the only weight they really appeared to whiff to me was 285 after Marsden.

Also, don't forget their ability to bring in key transfers at need weights.
