Patrick with another very good game.

Excellent game by Pmac. His shot selection has been much better the past few games. His ability to knock down a couple 3's helps out his dribble drive game. I would like to see him get a few more shots up given it looks like he and Keegan will need to carry the load. Had he been able to finish on the lob pass and on his attempted rebound flush it would have been a truly spectacular game.

It's interesting. People see the ball go through the basket more for a guy and suddenly everyone says "hey, great game," or "this guys' really improving," etc. I get it. I do think the younger McCaffery has been playing better the last number of games even before the shots started falling. His drives have more purpose, more chances of going in. He's getting himself into better spots on the floor and far less of the wrong-footed runners in the lane. The 3-point % will come and go, but right now he appears to not be over-thinking and just shooting it if he's open and the shot is in rhythm. That's what you have go do. The move that had me really take notice in the second half was when he used the clever reverse pivot to get himself a layup at the rim. Missed it, but but was right there for the putback score. That is good basketball.

IMO, these were Pmac's 2 best games this year by far. He's letting the game come to him and not forcing bad shots. Confidence looks really high right now and he's rebounding much better as well.

PMac looks like he is one of the few guys on the roster, along with Keegan of course, that can create a shot out of bad possession.

Of course, that only helps if the shot goes in - it's starting to with more frequency.

Fran is being recognized by national basketball analysts like Jon Rothstein (CBS Sports) for player development.

Jon mentions Payton, PMac and Keegan.

Weird, I know.

Our new coach, @Bulldogs1974, wanted to reduce Patrick’s minutes at one point too. It seems like he may have a vendetta against the McCaffery family. Weird.

Pat has always been athletic and flexible,.. now it looks like he's starting to get comfortable with contact.

Pepperman??? Come out to playyyy

He has looked better. I’m not sure if it’s real improvement or the level of competition.

winning cures a lot of complaints so I am happy to see the team winning. Again though, I’m not going to get too pumped up about the current competition.

Pat has improved more than anyone this season.

Hes getting a little better on defense, he's really edited the low percentage stuff out of his offensive game and his 3pt shot looks great.

Hes effective when he catches, squares, and either shoots or drives. No more dribbling around in no man's lands.

Competition definitely needs to be taken into account.

Pepperman is not sure whether Patrick has developed.

Hawk94Mn discounts PMac's development by saying you have to take into account that we were playing Minnesota.

I, on the other hand, will take into account people like Jon Rothstein who actually know what they are talking about.

2 solid games in a row. I’d stop short of “very good”, but I won’t argue semantics. The fact is he will need to play at least this well going forward for this team to succeed. Right now he’s an average player on an average team.

I agree that he has had 2 really good games. Perhaps his 2 best games as a Hawk regardless of the opposition. He was also pretty good against Purdue for that matter. It would be huge if a light went on and he can sustain it. The 4 games before that were not very good where he was shooting a low percentage and was a non-factor on the boards averaging 2 per game while playing 27 per game. He needs to keep lapses on the defensive/rebounding side to a minimum and be more aggressive. I think he forgets that's part of his job sometimes. There was a play in the opening minutes yesterday where instead of securing the rebound, he stepped away leaving his man wide open and then literally watched flat footed as his man received a pass a few steps from the basket and buried the put back. Everybody makes mistakes but this has been a recurring issue and the team can't have that and compete against better teams. Minnesota is the worst rebounding team in the B1G and Iowa was still on the short end of that last night.

I have always defended Patrick?

I was giving Pepper crap because about a month back he went back and found an old quote where I said he’d be all conference.

i then said above pepper what do you have to say now and he agreed he’s been better and then I agreed it was against below average comp.

I am now a Patrick Hater in your mind. I will now again disappear from the unpaid boards.

Don’t let Fran chase you away.

So if you would quantify or qualify what "very good" means to you?

At least 11 points over the last 6 games.

5 of 8 from 3 over the last two games.

16 and then 18 points over the last two games...and 7 rebounds with the 18 points in the last game.

Those aren't BT player of the year numbers......but I would call those "very good."

Something more than that, I would call outstanding...and maybe another step up to elite.

That' my beef as well. Good to see Patrick becoming a bigger scoring threat on the offensive side and I hope he continues to improve but the defensive lapses are still evident, and I continue to believe he could be much more aggressive on the boards. Overall, I like how his game is maturing...... hit the boards!

I didn't know anything about your previous history with Pepperman. All I saw was Pepperman writing, and I quote, that he was not sure if it's real improvement or the level of competition.

You quoted him and said, and I quote, that competition definitely needs to be taken into account.

So, instead of giving Patrick any credit, you both, instead, discounted how he's playing because of the competition. Stuff like this gets really old.

And, like I said, luckily we have people like Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports around, who actually know what they are talking about.

I swear, some of these posters would rather have a root canal than acknowledge that PMac has been playing really well.
