Wish him well wherever he ends up. I could see UNI. Makes Iowa okay on the scholarship number though of he leaves

Honest question, why surprised? He would have struggled to get more than 8-10 minutes a game. He’s had a ton of injuries and if he actually thinks he can get minutes his final year he should definitely go elsewhere. Wish him nothing but the best.
I was guessing he might play up to 20 minutes per game if healthy again. If he’s only playing 8-10 minutes per game your probably right.

Cordell Pemsl to Transfer

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa redshirt junior forward Cordell Pemsl announced on Friday that he has submitted his name in the NCAA transfer portal and will depart the Hawkeye basketball program.

“I would like to thank my teammates, coaches, and fans for a memorable four years at the University of Iowa,” Pemsl said. “I am grateful for the support Hawkeye Nation has shown me through many difficult times. With that being said, I am going to finish my degree and plan on completing my final year of eligibility at another school next season. I wish my teammates the best of luck in the future and appreciate everything the University of Iowa has done for me."

“Cordell is graduating this year, and I can’t thank him enough for the contributions that he has made to our program over the past four years,” said Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery. “He was a valuable teammate on one NIT and two NCAA Tournament teams, all while overcoming three major surgeries over the last six years. Cordell is beloved by Hawkeye Nation and he has my complete support in the coming months during this transition.”

Pemsl (6-foot-9, 248 pounds) played in 96 career games on teams that averaged 19 victories over the last four seasons. The native of Dubuque, Iowa, averaged 5.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.

Nunge is our back up center now with no chance of starting. The 4’s on the team now are Connor, Patrick, and the twins. Not exactly what you’d like to see if you’ve struggled to compete on the boards and defend the rim.

almost have to think we are pursuing a grad transfer unless Fran believes in the twins to contribute right away or Ogundele to.

Well I was hoping that if he wasn't playing for Iowa next year it would be because he decided to avoid any more damage to his already battered body.
I hope this means Fran and Cordell see that he can take the physical strain and that he can play significant minutes elsewhere and get a chance to succeed like he wants.

Ogundele said he has no intention to redshirt.

Carton is no Pemsl and Pemsl is no Carton. Would Carton be a good exchange for Pemsl?

Not trying to be a downer, but the film I’ve seen doesn’t show someone who is athletically “fit” enough to play D1 b-ball yet. I watched one of his games on YouTube and he was completely gassed after 2 minutes of play. Though, if he’s only playing 8 minutes a game it might be doable. I think he needs a year in the gym before he’s ready to compete.

Connor played the 4 only out of necessity. With Nunge back there is no way he is going back.

I'm guessing Nunge's role will be exactly the same as Kriener had....play backup to Garza and some 4. Connor and or Keegan Murray will also play some 4, with Weeze, Patrick, Kris Murray, Connor and Fredrick alternating at the small forward position.

Enlighten me with some tough guys on the roster besides Garza. Toughness is a quality that good teams have..

While I was never a Connor fan when he first arrived, this past year showed me that he's a gamer. He played against much bigger players and played hard. He even controlled his fouls. I also thought CJ was pretty tough for a young player. He'll be even better next year (hopefully).

It depends. There are times/teams where playing the 4 out, 1 in lineup benefited Iowa. Other times, it did not. Much can still change between now and the start of the next season. I would doubt the answer is playing Garza and Nunge together 25 minutes a game. Game by game basis as to how Iowa wants to do things. I would want Garza, Frederick, Wieskamp playing as many minutes as they can handle, Bohannon playing a bunch of minutes if he's healthy, Conor playing 25-ish minutes at minimum, and the rest can be filled in as needed. But that's just my guess right now.
