People love a winner

I really like the 4 players he's got coming in. I expect big things from that class. And 24 is looking nice as well. We might see the men's resurgence we've been wanting.
Fran just had 4 NBA players come through. A NPOY. Another first team All-American.

Not trying to be a downer but the simple truth is there will be a possibility of a resurgence in men's bball when Fran addresses the defensive side of the ball

I just think with the 4 plus the 2 freshman and the 24 kids we have a shot at winning a lot of games. Plus my baby girl comes home on Friday. It'll be her first football and basketball seasons! The,next generation of hawkeye fans! Expect big things from now on because my little girl deserves better teams than 3rd through 5th in the big and also some runs in March. She's good luck. I can already tell. Stocked on hawkeye onesies and little baby hawkeye hats. Undeniable logic.

Only took the Cubs 108 years of “might” and “next year” before they reached the promised land.

I've already posted about 20 times my baby girl comes home on Friday so it's a whole new era for the Hawks. Can't lose now. She's got 10 fingers and 10 toes, I'm totally on a roll. Gonna win her college tuition on this upcoming football season alone.

Congrats man!!! Nothing beats daddyhood!!!

The way fran is handling the portal is bad, bring in a 6-9 guy who cant play defense, hopefully a couple of the freshman provide some hope but gets really old having the same problem the last so many years with good offense but crap D and bad rebounding.

All this talk about Fran will never make a run in the NCAA because of their bad defense yet if that logic were to hold true, the women's team should never had made the championship game. The men finished 294th in defensive scoring while the women were 321st.' Either this year's women's team is an exception to the rule, or the argument is without merit.

I would bet you "defensive efficiency" is a better indicator of men's tourney success so yeah it's probably a once in a lifetime exception.

Somewhat an exception to the rule. The ladies also had the best player and the best offense in the country. The women's tournament field is also less dense to break through for a longer run.

But very much apples to oranges here. There is a difference between a sound defense and an un-sound defense in the ladies game. But there is also a huge difference between the impact a good women's D can have on its game and the impact a good men's D can have on its game. There aren't really impact defenses in the women's game. While in men's college basketball, there are programs controlling games with their defense everywhere. Men have the natural frames and aggressive disposition to take D to the next level.

In short, a good D in the women's game doesn't make as big a difference as a good D in the men's game. Nonetheless, Bluder hasn't had much for D in 23 years, it took the best player in the country to make a tournament run, and the lack of D bit them fatale in the end. Get back to us when Fran takes Iowa to the next level with his typical defensive performance. It's not happening. Get the D to below average, with similar output/efficiency from the offense, and then it's possible

Don’t forget, Bluder’s elite eight run also had the best player in the country.

False premise for many reasons.

The Women's team is most likely an exception (in their category) but the womens game isn't relevant to men's so a comparison is not meaningful.

Theres decades of actual data to back up the idea that it takes a certain level of defense to make a final 4.

This years Miami team would have been the proper example of an extreem outlier.

Not a false equivalncy. How can you say they aren't relevant to the mens game? It's almost the exact same game with almost the same rules. As for historical data, any staitician will tell you, that when you compare multiple sets of data, that unless the variables are the same, you can't make a definitive statement. It may show a trend but you cannot say a certain level of defense is needed to make the final four. You can only say that in this data set this is true. There are just to many variables from season to season to compare accurately.
Oh and that defensive number must be pretty high because Miami was well into the 200's in scoring defense

We’ve been waiting since ‘87 and nothing to suggest things will change anytime soon. Recruiting is still too pedestrian.
Can't disagree with you. It's been a long time since i watched the men in the final four. But I'm getting optimistic but might be from the women's success.

Are you really trying to argue that you can make conclusions about the mens game based on evidence from the womens game while also dismissing decades of evidence from the mens game?

The variables between the mens and womens games are far more significant than year to year in the mens game.

For one thing the elite offensive talent in the mens game leaves after 1 year. Catlin Clark is the womens equivalent of the current version of Luka Doncic or Ja Morant playing on a college team.

That sort of offensive talent disparity doesn't exist in mens college game.

Obviously its not impossible to make a final 4 with a bad defense but its very unlikely.

You must a have a great job then. IF she want to be in dance ($12,000 a year alone in the 2000s), tumbling, and every sport under the sun you're not. I had two daughters that were excellent athletes but gave it up to be a mall dolls. So sad.

His four year record disagrees with you
It took Minnesota beating Wisconsin to get his hands on the one West trophy in that 4 years, then got completely embarrassed in BTCG. Really setting the world on fire there

Just look at the front page of this forum.

If Fran wants more fans, all he has to do is produce.
It helps the women to have the best player in WBB who happens to be a generational talent. Lucky for the women that Pro WBB is not lucrative and that NIL is now available. If we could keep players for their full college career like Luka,Keegan and Kris then the Men might be able to sell out. I wonder if Luka would have stuck around if we had NIL.

My main point is that the women are likely to outdraw the men this next season.

Who thought that would ever happen at Iowa?

Fans love a winner.

I've got a baby girl now. Big change. I'm on a roll so figured the Hawkeyes will be having a turnaround. Just good logic there.
