People should stop trashtalking Conner and Patrick

Defensive analytics has PMac as a very poor defender.

What, just because he is slow to react, stands flat footed while people shoot over him, and can’t move laterally very quick either? Which makes for poor switching as defenders and fewer contested shot blocking?

His agility is poor, it’s plain to see. Everyone except for the permanent rose colored glasses crowd that is.

He has some good offensive skills, the problem for him as a player is that defense is one half of the game.

I’ve said this in other threads, but thought it’s worthy of its own.

The negativity toward these two KIDS is amazing. Patrick hasn’t even played a single game at Iowa and is nationally ranked somewhere between 58 to 87th best recruit this year.

As for Conner, he filled a huge gap this year. He averaged 3.1 assists per game while playing 18.6 minutes versus JBo who averaged 3.4 assists in 31 minutes per game. Conner’s TO was 1.3 per game vs 1.7 for JBo. He is tied with JBo on steals at .7 per game.

No question that Conner needs to work on his shot and become more like JBo (that is if anyone can be like him). Conner has a good form and range but lacks in confidence, which I’m sure will come next year. More than anything else I like the kid’s fighstiness, as he never backs up against anyone.

Patrick is still learning and has lots of wiggle room right now. He need to figure it out fairly soon though or he enters trash list

This is a ridiculous post. I have definitely been critical of CMac’s play and believe to this point Patrick hasn’t lived up to expectations (fair or not), but that doesn’t mean they deserve to be trashed like it’s personal. Get a grip.

This thread spanning almost three years is an interesting one. I am in the camp that Connor is not a D1 player and is only getting PT because Fran is the coach. I think Patrick has the potential to be good but to this point has not lived up to his high school ranking.

I don’t know how anyone trying to offer an objective analysis could reach any other conclusion. With that said, people who make it personal and go after these young men on social media need to get a life. If you want to blame someone, blame Fran for continuing to play his kids over others probably more deserving of PT.

I wish he would look for contact when driving like Aaron White used to, especially since he’s a solid free throw shooter, instead of tossing up contorted mid range shots or forcing bad shots

I can't stand those floaters and runners. Would love to see his % on those shots. He's least decent at the ones driving around the rim but still no need to shy away from contact. But he needs to learn to pull up in the lane for a jumper or take it to the rim and draw contact instead. He's a good ft shooter. Look at Aaron White he made a living off getting to the ft line, dunks and offensive put backs. White and Uthoff 2 guys with Patrick's build who were good rebounders especially White. PMac is also the age of a college senior (19 when graduated HS and his RS season) so the excuse about being young doesn't fly for me anymore.

IMO this mentality has created more baskets for the opposition than the Hawks. We need our forwards to be hitting the glass, not running back down the court before we've secured the ball. I'm not necessarily blaming Patrick for this either. He's probably been coached to play this way.
