Does it seem like line play has been far worse this year? How much say over Brian/Kirk does he have on things like our zone blocking scheme?

Looking bad so far IMO.

I don't blame Polasek....the man has never been an offensive line coach...I blame Kirk for this unbelievably stupid decision. Polasek should be our OC, with Brian remaining as o-line coach.

But no......

I feel like Polasek would be trying to run the ball more than Brian. Don't know why but just gut feeling

I foolishly thought Polasek would help implement the NDSU running game. Would be nice to see a running game that accounted for more than one ball carrier and forces the defense to at least have to keep an eye on the other 5 players eligible to run or catch the ball.

He probably would.....if he were offensive coordinator. But he's not. He coaches the line, which he has zero experience at.

I blame our scheme and execution. Safeties have to respect our passing game and can't play run first, nothing going to change until this happens.

That doesn't mean an olineman shouldn't block his man. We are not defeating people at the los at an acceptable rate. We didn't even change the los like we should have.

But wouldn't it make some sense in taking advantage of some of the experience Polasek brings to the table? Seems like KF is taking his "Developmental Program" attitude and using it on his staff. NDSU had not much of any problem running the ball against us last year. Is Kirk and Brian are too proud to take advantage of the experience some of these coaches bring in? Makes me think that KOK was just brought in because he needed a job and nothing more. What a waste! But then again, it is only money? As long as the boosters are happy!

I am not making excuses for missed blocks, I am just saying if there are more tacklers than blockers it's hard to establish a run game.

They should've had the OC from NDSU be the OC at Iowa. Why would u make him the OL coach when u already have one. Keep everyone familiar with what they've been doing for years

What teams are doing is not new and we have run the ball better against this scheme in past years. Individual play on the oline is subpar and I hate saying that.

maybe the injuries to the OL and having a different starting 5 on the OL is having a impact and playing a top 5 team and a team that was embarrassed who is out to prove that last season was a fluke might have something to do with it,

not to mention there are 9 new players on offense some are starting with the others playing,

nah I GUESS not as you are demanding perfection and these young players play like 1st Team AA in their 1st year of playing,

I guess I have never paid as much attention to the safeties as I did yesterday. They always were quick to attack the run and never seemed interested in our receivers at all. Blocking hasn't been great, but it's hard 6 or 7 to block 9 guys who all seem to key on Wadley. I hope when Butler returns we split Wadley out more to create mismatches and space.

But that would be unfair to the other team so Kirk and Brian won't do it

I think there’s serious confusion up there. When I see Sean Welsh out there unsure and whiffing on blocks, something isn’t right because he’s damn good.

Butler is out till the NW game, before Butler went down with a injury they had no problem with rotating them and lining Wadley in the slot and lining Butler up as the RB, its unfair to blame the coaches on being limited because of injuries to key players,

team are keying on Wadley in spite of this Wadley has 612 yards of total offense thru 5 games.

Stanley is T-10th National with 12 TD's and is tied with McSorley for 2nd in the BT 1 TD behind Barrett of OSU both JT and McSorley fattened up their stats on these yesterday Indiana and Rutgers for OSU,

that's because he is playing RT instead of the guard spot that is his natural position, Welsh has played both the RG and LG position and now he has been put into the LT position which is not his normal position,

I have long thought that we should use the jet motion a lot more in our offense to keep the backside defenders from being able to fly to our running backs. We use it once or twice a game so it's not a staple of our offense. NDSU used it a lot if I remember correctly. Wisconsin used to use it a ton also. But what the hell do I know?

Perhaps we should be recruiting big. strong kids with an assault and battery charge or two. Can't coach nastiness, but can coach citizenship.

One word. Butler. I love Wadley but he is not a between the tackles runner. We have a sophomore QB, young skill players besides Vandy, an offensive line looking for a consistent group and identity, and a horrific punter and prevent D that always puts Iowa in bad field position. We need that hit in the mouth jump with a bowling bowl RB to help move the ball and get field position.

If the OL can't block what difference does it make who's back there

convertind a DL to the OL will bring that nasty that people want but it still won't help when its 5 OL trying to block 8 players.

until some of you figure out that out you will all keep crying.

Perfection? Iowa gained 19 yards on 25 carries. 0.9 yards per carry. That's pitiful! I'd gladly take below average at this point because this shit is ridiculously bad. I can't recall how many times I saw Daniels whiffing on a safety 10 yards downfield while Wadley was getting tackled behind the line. How about picking up the DL and LBs before worrying about the safeties? I don't even know what the hell they're trying to do half the time because they are getting blown up at the LOS or running downfield past LBs to block safeties (???). Yeah, I'll get the guy five yards deeper and hope someone picks up this 240 pound beast blasting right past me to stop Wadley at the LOS after he juked two DL in the backfield to avoid a three-yard loss. Pitiful.

Well buddy it will do 2 things. Avoid negative yardage and not require the OL to hold the blocks as long. Which also cuts down on penalties. Stop being a prick and think.
