We obviously had all the craziness of MAGA paying all of Trumps legal bills but these stories from the Kamala campaign of paying celebs for endorsements is crazy. $1.4 BILLION spent to lose to Donald Trump.

I know we always talk about overturning Citizens United but not sure if that would be possible. What can Congress do to minimize this money laundering scheme?

Kamala spent more than progressive insurance spent on advertising in Q3 and progressive set the quarterly record for insurance company ad spent at $1.2 billion.

Yes...I'm sure the billionaires who get 100x-1000x ROI will follow suit here...

If Citizens United pisses you off, simply quit voting for Republicans until enough of them are sidelined that moderates can act on this.
This was a ruling pushed on you by a GOP-stacked court.

This same court just overturned Chevron (which Thomas had the opposite position before he got all his free shit and vacations from rich people). If you do not understand what the absence of Chevron means, you probably shouldn't be in the discussions here. (Hint: It will take us back to the early 1900s, with the biggest corporations doing whatever they want, because they decide what the "regulations" are - it is literally why Elon Musk is being put into a role that he can control the regulators. Regular Americans "lose", when any and all safety standards mostly go away. Anything big business deems as a threat to their profits gets sidelined. They will use uneducated judges to decide FOR THEM what is "safe" and what "pollution limits" are ok.)

The solution here is very straightforward: quit voting GOP and letting them stack the courts. Ignore the "trans" nonsense and "border invasion" nonsense, because they use that to get their richest buddies in place to overrun our court system.

Eliminating your local political contributions accomplishes exactly the opposite - it allows the richest to dominate the political spectrum, and overturn even more societal norms that impact all the rest of us.

The stupidity of today's GOP voters is what has gotten us here, coupled with hundreds of billions from the rich, who do not about anything, but getting richer.

They have been informed on this over and over again but choose to forget it.

Assuming the inability of congress to affect Citizens United, the best thing is to follow the rule that I follow: only contribute money to those candidates you personally have an opportunity to vote for. We need representatives, not parties.

I have a new perspective on the money in politics piece. I used to think the problem was more of a transactional quid pro quo dynamic.

On the Democratic side, at least, I think the more damaging dynamic is that to the people who got paid the $1.4 billion, people who comprise a huge power cohort within the party, it WAS a successful election.

Several Harris/DNC supporters had to love this election. Local TV stations are happy as well

Only a couple reasons to donate to a campaign. First you should be well off. No reason as a lower class person you should donate. Either you enjoy the attention or business reasons.

I'm afraid it's too late. In case you haven't noticed, the influence of big money is only accelerating under the influence of big money. There used to be guardrails, but Citizens United is here to stay and the U.S. is too beholden to oligarchs to make significant change. Between their billions and their influence on and power over everything from social media to satellites, they pretty much control everything in the U.S. and around the world.

I say no more money gets involved and then in late October both candidates do three hours on the Joe Rogan Experience. Whoever you like best you vote for. Just like I did. Couldn't find Kamala's episode to save my life though.

Makes sense you’re a Rogan fan. You probably think he’s funny too.

It’s blatant how unfunny he actually is when real comics are on his show.

Yep. They’re all ‘all in’…like they’re whores or something 😬

WASHINGTON — When allies of former President Barack Obama set up a super PAC to support his 2012 re-election, the White House disowned the group, The New York Times published a scathing editorial and former Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold of Wisconsin gave a speech warning Democrats would "lose our soul" if they allowed big money into the party.

But fears of being outgunned trumped those principled objections and, less than a decade later, Democratic super PACs are spending more than Republican ones. Liberal "dark money" groups, which obscure the source of their funds, outspent conservative ones for the first time in 2018. Even reform hawks like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders had their own personal big-money groups supporting their presidential campaigns

Yep, that's why the Dems lost... TikTok. . Not the economy or border... It was TikTok. Do you guys even think about what you say?

Some do but Belem is as bad as it gets. It might have the same IQ as Trump. I see a lot of similarities
Listen, I'm not a Trump fan, but damn, the Dems need to rethink what's really going on. When the people tell you what the issues are, you don't tell them that they're fine and deal with it. If you do, then they will turn to someone who will listen. Now if he can fix them, that's a different story, but the Dems need to stop blaming everyone and start blaming themselves and change and get back to the party I once loved.

I agree 100% with this.

I also think the GOP needs to see just how ineffective Trump’s policies are and get back to actual fiscal conservatism backed by actual substance and ditch the MAGA leaders who lack integrity and competence.

We have one party with some competent leaders (not necessarily including Kamala in that characterization) who suck at listening and another party with leaders who suck at everything except salesmanship.

Jon Stewart answered this pretty well on the Weekly Show Podcast:

Q: Does the Left need a counter to Joe Rogan?

Stewart: (Paraphrasing)- Rogan isn't right wing. He's curious, and listens, talks to anyone. The Left just needs to go on there (Bernie was recently). People who say Joe Rogan is "right Wing" haven't listened to Rogan

**His comedy is pretty weak, but his podcast is good imo.

Edit: See if link works

It jumped the shark a while ago and now sniffs it's own farts. It should be renamed the Joe Rogan Asskissing Experience.

Nothing but a bunch of suckle-ups, including the next POTUS.

Agreed, but at this point we don't know if Trump's policies work or not. They seemed to be okay before, other than he spent too much. Time will tell. At this point, I hope they do, if not we are going to be in deep trouble.

As far a MAGA goes, 30 years ago the same voters voted for Clinton. The blue collar working class and the farmers have been betrayed by the Dems and that's what the issue is. Any Dem that doesn't comply with the party lockstep is kicked out and made a political enemy (Tulsi/JFK Jr) for example. If they double down on their ways, it's only going to get worse for them. Like I said, the GOP may not be better, but at least they are listening and trying to help the largest voting demographic.

What do you mean "suck at listening"?

People wanted an Infrastructure Bill.
They got one. They also got lots of business incentives for green energy/green tech developed in their Red State neighborhoods, that Republicans lined up to show up at the Ribbon Cutting ceremonies, despite voting against them 100%.

The messaging from the left is utterly overwhelmed by social media and regular media mostly dominated by rightwing interests these days. And despite that reality, the myth that "the liberal media" controls all of it, persists.

This is what propaganda does to people - they no longer recognize what they are seeing with their own eyes and ears - they simply lap up and believe the propaganda they are spoon-fed. It is literally how we get bomb threats to Haitian neighborhoods accused of "eating cats and dogs".

Many of the bills recently passed are going to get upended. That means IRA and Infrastructure Bill elements that will dry up and those businesses bringing in local revenues disappear. ACA goes away, and people can no longer afford health insurance and health care, so they stop spending their money locally, because it's all going to health conglomerates run by big business health administrators.

Lots of policies that Dems have pushed for have done a ton to help Middle America. When those policies go away, Middle America will be left in the dust. Because they voted "for" propaganda and "against" their own actual interests.

this means nothing compared to citizens united. You will fix nothing in this country politically until that and social media are reigned in.

Average people said the economy was crap because they are living pay check to paycheck. The Dems spent months during the Biden campaign talking about how great the economy was. When Kamala took the stage she, at first, did little to distance herself from Biden’s messaging. She eventually got the message, but by then it was too late.

Now, I’m not saying that the economy isn’t great and I’m not saying that Kamala wasn’t a far better candidate than Trump. I think those are true.

What I’m saying is the Dems were tone deaf for FAR too long about the inflation concerns and it bit them in the ass. The irony is the Dems had a far better package of solutions for the working class folks…they just didn’t understand how to sell it because they weren’t listening and fully appreciating the extent of the concerns.

But sure, go ahead and pretend that the Dems are good at everything. I’m sure that will help us move past MAGA politics in 26 and 28.
