Average people said the economy was crap because they are living pay check to paycheck.
Tariffs will not help them.
Deportations that will raise food prices will not help them.
Targeting trans people will not help them.
Losing ACA covering will not help them.

So, please, do explain which GOP policies that were pushed are going to benefit these people...

Jon Stewart answered this pretty well on the Weekly Show Podcast:

Q: Does the Left need a counter to Joe Rogan?

Stewart: (Paraphrasing)- Rogan isn't right wing. He's curious, and listens, talks to anyone. The Left just needs to go on there (Bernie was recently). People who say Joe Rogan is "right Wing" haven't listened to Rogan

**His comedy is pretty weak, but his podcast is good imo.

Edit: See if link works

Yeah, I don’t give a shit about political podcasts like most Rogan fans. I only listen when there are real comics on. It’s tough when they go for jokes because Rogan has no comedic sensibilities. If I wanna hear someone say “Wow. Yeah that’s amazing. Wow is that true?” for four hours I’d become a fanboy like you & Butters.

What I’m saying is the Dems were tone deaf for FAR too long about the inflation concerns

Dem policies worked pretty hard to contain US inflation (some of the lowest among most Western countries) and get a "soft landing" for the economy, when most economists did not think this was possible, post-Covid.

So, what I see is right-wing propaganda that convinced people the economy was "bad", when it was really quite decent, and among the best outcomes post-Covid. Dems were not effective at countering that propaganda, but considering they have 10% to 20% of the coverage the right-wing blog-o-sphere and media have, that is unsurprising.

Dude, did you even read my post? You are so excited to play a game of gotcha with me you forgot to actually LISTEN to what I said. We are on the same side page when it comes to MAGA policies. I literally wrote:

“The irony is the Dems had a far better package of solutions for the working class folks…they just didn’t understand how to sell it because they weren’t listening and fully appreciating the extent of the concerns.”

But you blew right past that. Maybe because like many Dems you apparently suck at listening 😜

Believing every right wing story you see online doesn't make you smart. It' makes you a sheep.
Next you're going to tell us how china really IS going to pay the tariffs!!

How is Kamala spending $1.4 billion to lose to Trump a right wing story?

Is this another right wing story?

There is plenty of info out there through the FEC where they pay these Marketing agencies that then get certain high profile individuals to do shows, speech’s, endorse, etc… don’t be naive just because Kamala loss

Dude, did you even read my post?

I did.

Democrats and their policies DID address what middle Americans are struggling with.
Propaganda prevented anyone from acknowledging it. Now, they are going to face far worse situations "paycheck to paycheck".

Tack on that the Biden admin worked very hard to improve consumer protections from corporate abuses. That will all disappear, completely, now.

Not sure why you want to "blame Democrats" for a tsunami of rightwing disinformation and propaganda, that they have no equivalent infrastructure to combat right now.

Dude. Working class people are struggling with the cost of living. Which message do you think is going to resonate with them: the party saying “actually, it’s not that bad - we’re doing better than the rest of the world” or the party saying “inflation is too high and we are going to fix it”?

I don’t think Trump’s policies are going to fix anything - but at least he is willing to listen to voters and pretend to care about the issues that are important to them.

I read it. It's not accurate.

GOP media monoliths flooded the zone with nonsense that overwhelmed anything the Dems said.

They misled voters about "Haitians eating cats and dogs", etc etc etc.
I saw loads of positive ads from Dems about job creation, etc. People get caught up in the nonsense and propaganda.

You seem to not understand this. Do you need the relative size/reach of the Elon Disinformation Machine posted (again)? Because INEC.

There is zero evidence that she paid celebrities for endorsements.
Everyone involved denies payment. The only payment found was to a production company. Unlike Trump, you have to pay those bills.

That's not what they ran on.

They ran on "immigrants eating cats and dogs" being your problem.
And tariffs are going to fix it for you, when tariffs are going to do EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE.

Democrats did not cause the inflation, Covid did.
Democratic policies tamed inflation in the US FASTER than what other countries accomplished, and with far better GDP gains.
What is amazing, is the GOP convincing people "living paycheck to paycheck" that their policies are going to bail them out.

They are going to do the opposite for them. They will lose health insurance access. Probably have Medicaid eliminated. All the economic growth fostered by the IRA and Infrastructure Bill will slow. Tariffs will make everything they pay for cost even more.

I understand this. But the people who are actually living paycheck to paycheck don’t give a shit whether inflation went down faster in the U.S. than it did in other countries. They just want to be able to comfortably afford to live.

When you have one party calling them idiots and subjects of misinformation, and another party telling them “we understand your concerns and we are going to fix them”, it is very obvious to understand why they voted the way they did.

I just realized that I laugh at every single one of Joes Place's posts. Dude is a moron.
Joe is not a moron; he is passionate about what he believes. That said, I do think he suffers from a bit more "Joecency Bias" than many, which is to say the tendency (which we all probably have a bit of to one degree or another) to think that everyone thinks like we do.

Trump denied being great friends with Epstein. Lol

You don’t think political people of power do not use another vehicle, such as an agency, to pay certain individuals to do something for them? $1.4 BILLION to lose to Trump

So your point is that they're idiots, but it's rude to point it out.

There are recordings of Epstein saying Trump was his best friend. There are photos of them together. There are flight logs.
What similar evidence do you have that celebrities were paid?
I'll wait.

That’s one way of looking at it. The other way to look at it is that the real idiots are the folks who couldn’t communicate a better message for their candidate than “you’re dumb and don’t know what you’re talking about - just trust us, bro.”

People searched what tariffs were and how they worked only AFTER the election. They ARE stupid.
You can say that the dems thought too highly of the intelligence of their audience. Trump never makes that mistake.

You really don’t get it, do you?

Working class voters have abandoned the Democrats because they don’t think that Democrats listen to them or care about the issues that are important to them. I’m pretty confident that doubling down on calling them stupid isn’t going to win them back.

Do you think Republicans listen to them?

This seems like gaslighting what actually occurred during the election campaigns.
Harris/Walz campaigned entirely on helping Main St America.

Trump campaigned on convincing them that Trannies and Immigrants are the source of all their problems. And the simple (and sad) fact is that Hate Speech works.

I think Republicans pretend to listen to them.

I also think we are unlikely to make any progress in the next four years if the takeaway for Democrats is that Trump voters are just a bunch of stupid racists who got tricked by misinformation and propaganda.

Hate speech does work, but exit polls were very clear that inflation was far and away the #1 issue for voters. The Dems simply didn’t understand just how big a deal that was. It is not gas lighting to point out that the Dems didn’t understand the magnitude of voter concern nor did they effectively message how they would help that more than the orange buffoon. If anything it is gaslighting to say those voters cared about the trans stuff more than their beliefs of the economy.

The simple reality is Biden and Harris took the fall for inflation when both admins caused the issue. The GOP’s negative messaging on inflation was apparently highly effective.

This we can agree on.

Particularly since so many of them started searching on "Project 2025" and "tariffs" after the election...

I'd bet that I'm smarter than about 80 of trump voters. But then, that's not much higher than my numbers against the general public.
Statistically half of americans are stupid. And trump skews towards people without higher education. So I'm comfortable believing I'm smarter than most who voted for him in general and ALL who voted for him on this site.

As for my view of his presidency, it will be similar to my last view

That’s why the Election Eve DM Register poll was viewed with so much skepticism. Iowans saw the ‘future of democracy’ and abortion as their two most important issues? No.

It was always inflation and immigration.

Dissing on Democrats who are explaining that GOP and independent voters who voted for Trump are "stupid" doesn't really make a lot of sense when your position is:

  • Trump voters, on exit polling, were primarily concerned with inflation and the economy
  • Trump's campaign literally ran on "raising huge tariffs" and "making China pay for them"
  • Every economist with a functioning brain told these voters that "China doesn't pay for these tariffs, YOU do"
  • After voting for Trump, who told them he was going to place tariffs on all the stuff they buy, they ran home to Google "how do tariffs work?"
How, exactly, do you "square that circle" that people concerned about "inflation" and just voted for someone who campaigned on "more tariffs" are NOT total morons?

If inflation and the economy is your concern and you know how tariffs work, you ain't voting for Trump.
It's like you want to penalize Democrats for not running on a campaign promise of "We will lower your grocery bills and make Xi pay for them!!!"

Joe is not a moron; he is passionate about what he believes.

I believe that people who claim to be "concerned about inflation", who just cast a vote for someone who campaigned on increasing tariffs on imported goods they buy, are complete and utter morons.

Either:

1. On the exit poll questions they answered, they lied about inflation being their main concern, and it's really more like that they support the racism and bigotry Trump offers them.
or
2. They aren't really concerned about the economy, which is humming along just fine for them and they're just parroting what they see on Fox and read from Elno
or
3. They are utter morons who do not understand how tariffs work.

Which one would you suggest was the case here? Do you have an alternative option?

Agreed, but at this point we don't know if Trump's policies work or not. They seemed to be okay before, other than he spent too much. Time will tell. At this point, I hope they do, if not we are going to be in deep trouble.

As far a MAGA goes, 30 years ago the same voters voted for Clinton. The blue collar working class and the farmers have been betrayed by the Dems and that's what the issue is. Any Dem that doesn't comply with the party lockstep is kicked out and made a political enemy (Tulsi/JFK Jr) for example. If they double down on their ways, it's only going to get worse for them. Like I said, the GOP may not be better, but at least they are listening and trying to help the largest voting demographic.
Farmers were betrayed by Biden?
The years 2021, 2022, 2023 were the 3 highest net income for farmers in US history.

Trump's trade war with China cost US farmers tens of billions in trade and that market is now permanently severely damaged.

Farmers evidently don't like money so they voted for Trump.
Surprising. Look for another trade war soon as Trump has seen he can destroy farmers and they will continue to support him.

Makes sense you’re a Rogan fan. You probably think he’s funny too.

It’s blatant how unfunny he actually is when real comics are on his show.
You’re just upset that several liberals, like Joe Rogan, Tulsi Gabbert, Elon Musk, RFK Jr, etc. have moved to the right side. Don’t despair, you have the Cheney’s now :)

Yes...but now they can call black people "n*ggers" and gay/trans people "f*gs" and pick on other minorities with all the extra time they have...

It's just part of the calculation/cost for "owning the libs", you know...

I didn’t say they weren’t morons. I said the Dems haven’t listened to their concerns and have not had effective messaging to counter Trump. This is really not debatable, the Dems got their ass kicked.

Further, I have been on the record here pre election that much of Trump’s voting block are either ignorant or of below average intelligence. Certainly not everyone, but a significant share and I agree anyone who thinks Tariff’s don’t contribute to inflation is either uneducated or a fool. What I was shocked by is how large a share of this electorate thought that. The Dems completely mis-estimated the size and depth of the inflation concerns.

This does not change the fact that the Dems failed to appeal to these voters despite the fact the Dems actually have better economic policies for them. The Dems need to figure out how to bridge this divide, but I am damn well certain calling them morons ain’t the solution (even if accurate for many). Trump did this by courting the people they listen to (Joe Rogan et al) with simple messages that told them the lies they wanted to hear - even though it was snake oil it worked.

I am not suggesting the Dems follow Trump’s lie filled playbook - I find the outright lies unethical (yes Kamala lied too, although not nearly as much). But the Dems do need to think about how to simplify the message, how to leverage different marketing channels, etc.

I am sure you will want to rebut this for some reason, so I will bow out and give you the last word as you seem to need it.
