It's called a gearbox. Single gear ratio.

It is not a transmission with different gear ratios, which is what the original convo was about.
Not even a "reverse gear", because that's all done by just reversing current polarity.

The convo was about your ICE transmission needing replacement every 100k or so miles.
You never have to replace a transmission in a single-geared vehicle. If they are properly maintained, they will pretty much last as long as the car will.

I stated that EVs had many advantages over ICE vehicles, particularly on maintenance, because they did not have a transmission.

You do not "replace" an EV transmission or need to add fluid every 30k miles. It is a permanently sealed single-speed gearbox. It bears little resemblance to the multi-speed transmissions or CVTs in gas/diesel vehicles.

One of many advantages I had pointed out.
You also never change spark plugs
You never need any timing belt adjustment
You will never have pistons wear out or "throw a rod".
You have no oil changes.

Because they are single gear.

Like my electric leaf blower or electric weed trimmer. No one refers to the single-speed gearing as "a transmission" in those, either.
