If anybody wants to watch the Suriano/Schram video its right here:

I was actually more impressed with Suriano when I heard the 3-0 score than I was when I watched the video. As others have said, neither did anything the whole match

IMO where they're at now, I'll take Gilman by 5-6 and looking for bonus at the end

You are right, Suriano needs a lot of work on his ride...it resembles Sorenson's stall spiral ride way to much. I am not a fan of the spiral ride.. Gilman is a monster and I would put him about 5 points ahead of Suriano at this point. but Suriano is #2 or 3...only Dance in my opinion can beat him outside of Gilman.

I knew my post would draw those reactions but I'll stick by my predictions and I'll eat crow at the end of the year if need be. Still feel he will greatly improve throughout the year and will hang right there with Gilman come tourney time. It was his very first match at Rec Hall. That's a big deal for a true freshman. I think he wrestled tight and conservative and wanted to just get out with a W to open up his career there.

Here's my list for "Once-in-a-Decade" wrestlers 2006-2016: Logan Striebler, Kyle Dake, Alex Dieringer, J'den Cox, Jake Varner, Kyle Synder, Ed Ruth, David Taylor, Gabe Dean, and who else? Can't anyone see how ridiculous this gets?
Your list has one, notable missing phenom... PD3! The only thing he's missing is a title. And the Hodge just might make him the "greatest of his generation".

"Wait a minute...not me? WTF dude?"

He's wrestling right now exactly like he wrestled as a senior in high school. There's no reason to think that's going to change in-season. The knock on him coming in was that he lacked high end offense.

I know exactly what you're saying, I really do. I'm not saying he's ever going to light up the scoreboard but what I am saying is he will continue to do what he did in highschool and that's win.

I mean if we had just a single piece of recent history that showed a freshman 125 pounder showing any progression against top competition in that year it would be one thing.

Or alternatively, if there were any history of an elite 125 pounder not being able to get a takedown on a top 3-4 opponent when it mattered late in the season. In two tries.

I voted for Gilman by 4, but I'm not laying any $$$.

Yes. Suriano is automatically as good as GIlman....because he's wrestling 125 for Penn State? That's why every Iowa 149 lber is as good as Brent Metcalf.

See, you're coming around...

All I'm saying is Gilman is at the top, and even he struggled to score against a guy that was 4th ranked one week, and 3rd ranked a couple weeks later. It happens. Suriano not putting himself at risk against the 4th ranked guy in his 2nd match of his 1st year might not be indicative of whether his offense has evolved since the winter.

I mean....so did Gilman. Most of these guys did. We can obviously disagree on something like this, but I think your thinking is biased by your Penn State fandom, just like anyone predicting Marinelli will go with I-Mart. Kemerer I'll say there is at least a basis given his sterling RS season, though I still think Nolf beats him by a few, at least.

I can't believe this thread is at 3 pages...

Premise is pretty stupid. I stated on another thread, there is really no way to take anything in the way of how good Suriano is off of the Schram match. Plus, the guy may be ranked #4 but he may as well be ranked #12. And he retreated the entire match. No idea how Suriano will fare against a guy like Dylan Peters, for example, let alone be ready for Gilman.

I would not be surprised if Suriano slips up a time or two - actually, I will be surprised if he doesn't. He's a freshman, most likely will improve during the year, but right now it's silly to talk about.

That was 8 and half minutes I'll never get back.

We can talk about wrestling or girls volleyball. Now that would be stupid.

Glad to know Iowa Hawkeye wrestling fans have identified Penn State freshman Nick Suriano as the number 1 threat to Thomas Gilman's pursuit of a National championship.

I don't know about anybody else but God I really hope Suriano / Gilman is not the second coming of Megaludis / McDonough. Everybody on the planet that follows wrestling would then have to for the next 3 or 4 years listen to the insistent whine that despite always being present and engaged Nick is staaaaalllling.

Right now Gilman is the man. I don't see Peters or Dance having a snowball's chance in hell of beating Gilman, so maybe Nick Suriano is the primary threat. Sure would make me and many other Penn Staters happy because, that would mean Nick is really good and only going to get better.

However, the kid has wrestled exactly 2 college matches so who knows what we have in happy valley. I think we should let the season play out for a bit and come January 16th if Nick is still undefeated and looking better and better maybe then a poll and some good natured bantering would seem appropriately timed.

In my opinion message boards are a way to offer opinions. Since when does a lack of data stop people from offering opinions? If you don't like the topic spend your precious time on something else. Replying to a topic to say it is stupid, well in my opinion that is kind of stupid.

If this is your opinion, why did you make it all the way to page 3? While I don't think it's in any way a scientific discussion, it's a message board where people offer their thoughts, they predict and speculate and argue back and forth , except on BWI where disagreement is discouraged and frowned upon.

I would also like to point out that you offered your very own opinion on Gilman and Suriano, with a fair amount of detail, before you implied that this pole is premature.

The season hasn't really even started yet, most conversation about what's going to happen, at this point, is premature. I wonder if you think we should not be talking about match-ups until they after they happen. Any way, my opinion is that, conversations like this, are interesting and a forum like this is exactly the place for them, but I respect your opinion to disagree.

My other opinion is that Gilman takes it to Suriano pretty good the first match, Gilman +6, but things tighten up at Big 10's and while Gilman should win, upsets happen and it'll be close. I don't think they face off at Nationals. I see Dance getting consistent this year and meeting up with Gilman.

We got it. Your opinion is it isn't stupid. My opinion is it is. Great that we could work that out.

I'll take Kemdawg over Nolf. Maybe not the first time through but he will take him out at Big Tens and nationals if Nolf has the misfortune of being on the same side of the bracket.

You feelin' all right today? 'Cuz you must have started drinking pretty early yesterday. Not that there's anything wrong with that . . . but C'mon Man! No one is touching Nolf this year.

I made it page 3 because it is a wrestling discussion.

I don't understand why some feel this thread is stupid. What... you guys don't hang out with your buddy's and predict outcomes of matches or football games? That to me is just weird. My buddy's and I do that all the time and then have fun afterward talking smack to the one who is wrong. To me, the smack talk is half the fun. I see this thread being the same way. Interesting to know what others think and maybe even harass each later for being wrong. I don't see any harm in it..

Well.......since we're doing it on our own board....instead of someone else's..........

I guess it's OK.

Maybe it is bias... maybe not. I gave my honest opinion on the way I see their matches shaking out this year. I admit though, I think I'm putting a higher premium on Surianos defensive skills that in my opinion negates some of what Gilman does and makes the matchup very very close. Getting back to your bias comment, I'm sure we all are bias in a way but I do my best to try and look at things wisely and fairly. I'm not so bias to admit I think Stoll beats Nevills. So there's that....

For the record, I don't enjoy smack talk. I like actions to do the talking.

My bro AFHawk let's his smack talk loose on OPR/EPR's...dude is deadly with the bullets (sorry, got inside jokes today).

He's so tough the SP's tackle themselves when he breaks red on the flight line.

He's so tough, Chief Master Sergeants faint at the thought of getting called on his carpet.

He's so tough, the Air Force has permanently waived his requirements to do CBT's.

He's so tough, Finance actually doesn't ignore him when he has a problem with his pay...they may not fix it though, because nobody is that tough

He's so tough, we all hum the Air Force song as he walks by.

He's so tough, he doesn't eat MRE's when deployed...locals leave meticulously prepared meals at the front gate for him.

Just trying to give my favorite wrestling fan Col a laugh today.

Thanks Prairie! Hard to judge any future matches based on this "thing." Just plain boring. Suriano looks like he's good on top, but I'm not impressed with Schram...at all. He did nothing that entire match...looked like he was hoping for Suriano to get tired and pull out the white flag...

Chief - You achieved your objective. In fact, my wife, who knows me all too well, got an even bigger laugh than I did.

OBTW, do you ever run into a retired Chief named Tony Grizzard?
