I don't understand why Buddy still has a job. Figured he was brought in to save Brian's job. FAIL. HE SUCKS
That's a good question. His babysitting gig didn't work out. Maybe it's because the current QB's and Wide receivers don't have any other coaches at the moment. Or maybe Kirk doesn't want to look like a hypocrite for firing him when he wouldn't fire Brian.

It’s simple:

Kirk hires people he likes and then gets so attached (for whatever reason) he won’t fire them.

KF is, in my opinion, waaaaay too nice.

Personally, I’d like a more cutthroat, say what everyone see’s approach.

I was tempted to go with the final choice. I'm sure KF would pay to see that.

Reality, I doubt there is anyone worthwhile who is beating down the door for that job. Though, it seems pretty well known that KF likes to take his time. IIRC it took him a while to find Greg Davis when KOK was out the door. It's been months since KF knew he was going to have to find a replacement for OC, though. Tick tock, Kirk.

went all-in on Chryst and didn't have backup options at the ready?
This. I suspect Kirk had all signs pointing towards Chryst being a slam dunk (as theoretically it should have been), thus his previous comment about having everything wrapped up by today. But through that process, I imagine that as offensive coordinator, Chryst had expectations of, you know, actually coordinating the offense and stuff, and it became apparent to him that that’s not how things are done here. You know, the obligatory “I’ve won a few games here—not sure if you’re aware of that.” Thus it all fell through leaving Kirk holding this sh!t sandwich that’s currently on his plate.

So I voted for #4 with the very real possibility that we’ll see #2 as the last and only yes man standing.

Way back before bowl season I heard Klint Kubiak was in play and laughed it off, then forgot about it. But now that it came out that there are candidates still coaching NFL teams, it makes me wonder.

This job would likely be a stain on anyone's resume. It is set up for failure from the jump. There are so many eyes on this from a media standpoint that anything less than significant improvement will just add to the national joke that is Iowa's offense. KF is blind to that and it seems he set BF back several years in his career. So far so that BF may never fully recover.

I'll stain my undies and walk around in public that way for $1.5 mill a year for a few years minimum.

It really will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
Lots of moving parts and I hope Beth, now fully onboard will be paying close attention.
They have to get this hire right and I hope it's just KF doing his homework, but at this point who really knows what the hell is going on. KF is known to give fans two big middle fingers in all of it. Hopefully he realizes things need to change drastically to inject some excitement into this program.

If John Budmayer has been named, it'll be announced via press release at about 5pm today with no media availability until spring practice starts

Well, Good Sir… Improvement is a good thing last I checked.

Secondly - Average ticket price to see the Buffs at home in ‘22 was $73. It appears to have doubled (at a minimum) for their non-con games to start this upcoming season.

More revenue for the university and athletic department = Buying better players and coaches in the future.

Bringing Deion to Boulder was definitely worth whatever ‘risk’ may exist.

So still 4 wins though right? Less than half of what kirk won last year, when he improved by..wait for it, 3 games!

There's honestly a couple things that I think happened, but one of the biggest is the fact that Kirk is finding out just how much of a pariah his offense has become.

I think people (plural) have turned down this job and weren't afraid to let Kirk know why they didn't want to take on the responsibilities under his system.

There aren't many young coaches out there that operate an offensive style that Kirk would be comfortable with and most of the older coaches that have that experience probably aren't willing to spend the energy moving to Iowa and trying to overhaul his offense.

Yes to both of your points…facts, obviously.

Back to my original point / comment from post 11: I prefer an approach that resembles more of a cutthroat, speak-his-mind type than a Kirk Ferentz.

If we sucked, I want to hear the head coach say “We sucked. We were awful on offense and we’ll be working hard to make sure we figure it out.” Etc. Etc.

But there’s always Kirk saying “Give credit to them, they played a great game today.”

I’m just tired of hearing Kirk talk. I’m not interested in listening to what he has to say anymore. 100% a bore.

And I refer to my original response. That is what happened at Colorado. They won 4 games. There is little proof that method is better.
