Not to mention, Kirk most assuredly was involved with Proctor. Roster juggling and future departures (medical hardships or portal) are also on the table. Oh yea, recruiting for 3025 is back in full swing.I’m not concerned about the length of time for a couple reasons. 1) Kirk is almost always meticulous, and it could be a top candidate is still coaching in the playoffs. See prior post about SFs WR and passing game coordinator 🤞. But 2) and probably more importantly, there has been a TON of moving parts so far this offseason that have so far broke Iowas way, and you have to give KF credit for:
1) tons of returning seniors to make another run
2) internal coaching moves/retention to keep core pieces locked in (Parker and Wallace) and presumably keeping Woods locked in too
3) moving Copeland along - it was time and needed
4) Proctor committing and coming home to anchor the OL
Yes it would be nice to have certainty for the OC and WR coach, but given the above positives I think allowing some grace to have this play out is warranted.
Holy shit.Oh yea, recruiting for 3025 is back in full swing.
Disagree on it being an attractive job. It was the worst offense in college football last year and all that's changed is one offensive lineman. Especially when Kirk will still likely dictate much of the offense. No up and coming coach would want this potential career killer on their resume. The only argument is that "it can't get worse, right"? Yeah well we said that before last year as well.I agree with the expected Chryst to take the job option and didn’t get a back-up ready or wants to view a broader pool of applicants.
Honestly, if Proctor comes here, I’m not sure how this isn’t a somewhat attractive job. You will have a good OL, RB, and TE room. Can rely on a top 5 defense and will get paid big $$. The risk is QB/WR for the current year and how much Kirk will micro-manage.
Yeah who would want $1.5 million a year. No guy in lower leagues wants that kind of money.Disagree on it being an attractive job. Yep. I actually uttered the words “I don’t think I have seen a worse D1 QB than Spencer Petras.”Disagree on it being an attractive job. I should have clarified, of course it will be an attractive job for 'someone' due to the money involved. However, it is not an attractive job to the pool of candidates that a perennial top 25 program (and top revenue earning) should be expected pull in. We should be able to set our sights much higher for this hire, but we can't because Kirk is still running the show. I'll gladly eat my words if Kirk ends up bringing in someone other than a Budmayr/Philbin type, but I just don't see it.Yeah who would want $1.5 million a year. We are loaded at RB and TE. And our OL just got a huge upgrade on that left side.
It'll be here in the blink of an eye. Kirk will still be coaching from the sidelines ala Weekend at Bernies and to the chagrin of many has assumed the OC role in perpetuity. Interestingly, the offense is more effective as there hasn't been a DC in the country that's ever seen anything like it for the past 75 years.Holy shit.
Year 1 for Sanders vs Year 25 for Kirk...excellent point. You must have forgotten that nice guy Kirk won 1 game his first year, 2 less than Hayden won in 98So still 4 wins though right? Less than half of what kirk won last year, when he improved by..wait for it, 3 games!
There are young guys out there that will be great. Doesn’t have to come from Big Ten or SEC ranks.I should have clarified, of course it will be an attractive job for 'someone' due to the money involved. Stacked at RB and TE. OL will be way improved. We’ve never seen a healthy Cade. The offensive side of the ball is pretty bleak
You have QB1 who’s a breeze away from his legs snapping in half
QB2 is already set with Hill, and the talk of a competition. Any OC would say Marco is your backup and Hill is 4-5
OL, while a massive upgrade at one position having KP onboard cannot block 10 guys himself. Has the OL coach actually improved anyone on the line since he took over ?
WR, people talk about Brown like he’s a savior or one of the best in the game. The dude caught like 12 passes for 80 yards on the season. He had about as many drops. There’s no help coming for this group.
No coach is going to agree to Kirk’s philosophy on offense with this current roster
Agreed, never said they would need to come from the Big Ten/SEC. Iowa should be able to get someone that has had recent success as a playcaller, even if at a lower level. There are young guys out there that will be great. Doesn’t have to come from Big Ten or SEC ranks.
Are you confident we'll see a healthy Cade in 2024? He suffered his latest knee injury later in the season than his previous injury in 2022, and he wasn't health to start 2023.Stacked at RB and TE. OL will be way improved. We’ve never seen a healthy Cade.
There's honestly a couple things that I think happened, but one of the biggest is the fact that Kirk is finding out just how much of a pariah his offense has become.
I think people (plural) have turned down this job and weren't afraid to let Kirk know why they didn't want to take on the responsibilities under his system.
There aren't many young coaches out there that operate an offensive style that Kirk would be comfortable with and most of the older coaches that have that experience probably aren't willing to spend the energy moving to Iowa and trying to overhaul his offense.

KF will probably still be HC then. A good portion of the fan base wouldn't mind "Weekend at Bernie'sing" him for another thousand years....Oh yea, recruiting for 3025 is back in full swing.
I think this is it. On the upside, with Chryst coming in and serving on staff with Kirk and Phil, I was a little worried about the inevitable shortage of Dockers khakis at IC area retailers. So at least we avoided that.went all-in on Chryst and didn't have backup options at the ready?
