I really think most of you people can't appreciate what a really bad economic shitstorm actually looks like.

Sorry bruh, not taking economic advice from an HR guy. Hell that guy that works the WalMart docks has been more knowledgeable than you to this point about what is going on.

Can’t you people at least wait a few more weeks until we’re firmly on the backside of the curve? I mean JFC.

Which curve?
Should we be basing our 'openness' on the availability of ICU space?

The goal of flattening the curve was avoiding exceeding capacity, and we made a crash move in that direction, but I think a crash move in the other direction isn't possible simply because people are going to remain risk averse.
Flattening the curve too far has the adverse effect of lengthening the time to herd immunity and means excessive sidelining of resource creation and service in other important areas.
There is truth in the idea that the cure can't be worse than the disease.
Nobody has the switch to flip things back to what they were even before politicians stopped exhorting people to behave like normal. That isn't an option that is even on the table.

How much mental health care was included in the several bailout packages.

Trillions of dollars and none for that contingency? I hope I'm wrong, but that would be my bet.

I don’t think they want them to die, they certainly don’t care if they do but I don’t think they are rooting for it. What they want is to not be held or feel responsible for their deaths and suggesting that they be “locked down” is their way of dismissing what responsibility we all have to one another.
You're being too nice. They're thinking of all the money that will be saved on Social Security and Medicare. Who knows, maybe enough to justify another tax cut for the rich.

And we aren't anywhere close to that. Famine, war, concentration camps. I'll change my tune when it's that bad.
I expect you'll change your tune if you or one of your family members gets the virus. 1/100-1/1000 looks a lot different when you're on the receiving end of that news.

I was responding to the post, "Virus debate aside, there are things worse than death in this life". I wasn't sure if the poster was implying the economic impact could be worse then people dying. To which my response was that famine, war, and concentrations camps are certainly worse then death. However, no unemployed American is suffering that right now so IMHO we can remain shut down.

I'm a doctor. I'm well aware of what's on the line. My wife and I don't get the opportunity to stay at home. I'm pretty sure you and I are on the same page.
