We built a good lead, and then he takes out Garza, Murray, Weiscamp players with a lot of talent and puts in players with mediocre talent. For once, his son Connor was shooting lights out and he takes him out.
Did not ride the early momentum

K everyone is entitled to their opinion but is where you’re damned if you do damned if you don’t. Fran was begged to play the bench more.. he did today and they shit the bed. It is what it is and in my opinion the veteran guys on this club need to refuse to go out this way and do something about it..

I think fans want more bench, but keep two good offensive players on the court at all times. Fran has 3 to work with...Garza, Weezy, and JBO......JBO needs someone to create a shot for him and is worst defensively, so his PT needs special management.

The starters would suck if there was no Garza on the floor. Not a surprise the bench also sucks with Garza on the bench.

As Far as Fran being damned either way...he is judged on wins regardless. He's not delivering them..

As I think back on the game, I wonder why Fran didn’t take a timeout after Bohannon made his last three. Put a defensive oriented lineup into the game to pressure the ball and contest the shot. Indiana’s game winner was so predictable I didn’t even react when it went in

Ulis got hammered going for a layup and no call by the referees, sorry but I didn't think that lineup was that bad. Nunge during the whole game played as soft as I've seen him play the whole season. How many bunnies did he miss today?
Rebounding was another issue that needs to be addressed. Rebounding flat footed is going to get your opponent second chance points every time. In fact I'd put rebounding the single element that has cost Iowa the last 3 games. Just can't allow second chance points. Very disappointing.....

Connor was shooting the lights out! Are you kidding? He made 1 shot. Both Connor and Patrick stunk today and are both a liability out there.

Shooting lights out was comical. He took one shot, the first shot of the game and made it.

Connor stunk today is even more comical though. Liability being +23 when he was in? -17 when Nunge was in and -14 for Perkins.

That was a bad stretch for sure but Iowa also built a 10 point second half lead as well, and couldn't hold that, either.

Iowa simply sucks at playing with a lead and winning close games. When Indiana got back into it and it was basically 5 minutes to go, I told myself Iowa was gonna lose. It's so predictable.

That's is not a recent phenomenon, either. This is Iowa under Fran (and Alford now that I think of it).

Its a bit more complex that that. We need to mix in the more defensive minded guys, while still maintaining some adequate shooters. Why does it have to be a hockey line change? Just bring in Perkins, or maybe Perkins + JT or Ulis, but all 3 at same time? None of those guys has proven they can consistently knock down jumpers.

Our offense shit the bed midway through the first half. it happens. Those guys are still valuable defenders and creators, we have to figure out how to mix them in or our ceiling has been reached.

Umm... Connor was 1 for 1 for the game for 3 points. Now granted that's 100% but..

He shouldn't have to guess one which combinations work. That's what practice is for.

I agree CMAC didn't cost Iowa the game, but it is also comical saying CMAC was +23 and Perkins -14.

How many of CMAC's minutes overlapped Garza? CMAC is not reason we lost, but he only had 1 assist, 2 rebounds, and 1 for 1 from field and 4 personal fouls. How do you come up with +23 for CMAC with that stat line?

Iowa didn't win despite Indiana shooting 36% overall and 26% from the field. Clearly playing Nunge 0-5 and PMaC 0-5 was costly. Anyone that was playing minutes with Nunge and PMAC got dragged in with those two guys minuses. Clearly sitting Garza big minutes in 1st half when Garza ends up with only 2 fouls and Nunge stunk---that was costly. Fran pushed the wrong lineup buttons.

How is it comical when it’s a fact? I didn’t come up with that stat, the scorekeepers did. Check the box score.

Well for all those who have been pining for more bench minutes from Perkins, you got your wish today. Based on all the recent chatter I don’t know how we did not win by 30.

Not putting this on Perkins, but just tired of all the pundits on this board who spin the easy solution to stop the bleeding is to plug in a couple of freshmen (Ulis & Perkins) for CMAC and JBO.

Fran needs to use his bench more, agreed; however it is a work in progress to find the right balance.

it’s a damn shame Fredrick got Injured, because it has been a struggle ever since.

Very disappointed about the last two losses, a matter of fact it is down right heartbreaking. Not the same mojo we had with Fredrick.....

Refuse to point fingers. Just sucks.

I do not consider that giving the bench a chance. He continues his hockey sub bs. In the msu game we rolled Garza, Perkins, Touisant, Murray and Pmac/Weezy for most of the second half and that unit won the game. The fact we havent seen that same group at all is criminally bad coaching. Maybe it was a one time thing but I think you have to find out.

I understand the quickness advantage of the kids on defense, but they still make their share of freshman mistakes (regardless of their class) on D and turnovers on both teams go up when they play.

Keegan knocked down his free throws and I thought had more then 1 block, but you can’t have 5 fouls in 16 minutes and help the team win. I love the kid , but he too is a freshman.

On any given night we get a lack of consistency from everyone except Garza and Fran doesn’t know what to expect from anyone else. He doesn’t have plug and play options because it’s a grab bag on what you might get.

maybe they should consider Keegan and Chris switching jerseys at halftime.... there by resetting Keegan’s fouls 🤔

At least 2 of those calls on Keegan were ridiculous.

I understand your last point, it is not just plug and play, Fran is still tinkering with rotations given how many new players we have (hell even Nunge is new really).

But be careful to not make sweeping generalizations on Assist to Turnover or Turnovers in general. Yes, our veterans are really solid in this area with JoBo and Connor, but they also are not really point guards and dont really create near as much as we would like.

Toussaint has a positive A/TO ratio but can clearly be turnover prone, many unforced. But both Ulis and Perkins (not a PG mind you) have very strong ratios, albeit with far less action of course.

Keegan is under water, but given he is playing kind of a stretch 3/4, it is not that surprising.

Unfortunately, we must continue to experiment and push our younger guys as it is the only way to elevate our ceiling and maximize our potential for this home stretch and NCAA Tourney.
