Reality check. Two days ago, the Hawks were on the verge of being a top 10 team. Losing by a last second field goal after leading for most of the game does not change that. Had that kick been two feet off, we would be in the top 10 right now talking about how great we are. So how can we still remain relevant? It's easy, NDSU needs to keep winning!

In this week's polls, NDSU is the highest rated IAA team in history, coming in at #27 out of all schools in the country, ahead of Notre Dame, Iowa and Oregon. This loss was NOT THAT BAD. Losing to Northwestern or Minnesota or Rutgers would be much worse.

Could NDSU continue to clime in the AP poll? Absolutely. NDSU gets a bye next week, and will likely creep into the top 25 as a result. The first three games of their schedule were stacked (they beat two top 10 IAA schools followed by #11 ranked Iowa). However, NONE of their remaining 9 games are against ranked teams or D1 BCS caliber schools. Their next game is against Illinois State (who lost last week).

As long as the Hawks win the games they are supposed to win (a big if) and NDSU continues to take care of business, the Hawks will once again be a top 15 team going into the Mich game. Our loss to a top 15 team will not be that big of a deal after a few weeks.

They are all D1 schools, FCS D1 schools. NDSU is going to start MVFC play. That league is a grind and I could easily see NDSU drop 1, maybe 2, games this season. They will slip up somewhere, could be their very next game when Illinois State goes to Fargo, but probably when they play at UNI the end of October. NDSU v UNI games are usually slugfests.

Yes, but..........

- the lost to South Dakota last year (to comment on another point)

- they've reached a breaking point in terms of self-confidence and smugness. It's not just time for them to lose a game. It's time for the championship run to end. North Dakota State fans needing to be brought back down to earth is more of an understatement than the fact that your post-game thoughts are anything but objective....................

And I'm speaking from experience when I say this. This isn't just something that came from Iowa losing to NDSU. That just confirmed what needs to happen, even if it somehow supposedly hurts Iowa (in the sense that we're talking about their realistic chances of making the CFP, that is...........................)

As someone who has ties to NDSU, I can speak confidently in what I think needs to happen.

For a closer example, look at Penn State wrestling and their recent dominance. If their fans were to start thumbing their noses at Iowa and the rest of the wrestling world (not saying some of their trolls don't already), that would kind of begin to touch on where Bison fans are right now.

This loss will haunt us. Every single sports outlet today crushed Iowa. Hell some had it as the lead that Iowa paid 500K to get dominated. These are national shows. And now as of today recruits taking new visits?! Wake up we are not Michigan who can withstand an App St loss. This was crushing especially coming after the "weak schedule" arguments and the Rose Bowl.

I don't. They had two near misses at home before the Iowa game. Obvious they were looking ahead to the Iowa game. Someone in the Valley will get them this year, maybe a couple of times. Then somebody will get them in the playoffs.

To cheer for NDSU would be to cheer against UNI. Sorry not gonna cheer against a school I attended.

Actually, all of the mainstream, respected national media that I've heard have heaped praise on NDSU and said they should be the next Big 12 team rather than bashing the hawks. This year's NDSU is not your typical UNI team. It's the 27th ranked team in the country and will soon be a top 25 team. This is not that bad of a loss and the coaches poll and AP poll agrees with this sentiment. The sky is not falling. However, the issues I've been raising since week one need to be addressed and improved upon...beginning with having CJ actually make the defense honest by throwing down field, giving Wadley the freaking ball, utilizing our all american, King, and subbing in more players on the DL.

I'd sooner tear my dick off and throw it in a river. NDSU fans are the very definition of classless.

I think the ranking was more of a reward for the success they've had over the last several years. Unless Top 25 teams start losing in droves, without another decent FBS school on their schedule the rest of the year, NDSU ending the year in the Top 25 would be the modern equivalent to the 1984 BYU National Title.

Do you honestly think you're the only none or even the first to make those suggestions or complaints?

No seriously, you can't think that what you're saying is an original thought, and that you're really just another dedicated fan who feels the need to voice their opinions and ideas, right?

Because even though we know you like to troll for the sake of discussion, it's hard to tell, when you're being serious, just how devoted you are in that seriousness.

Not entirely.

Funny though, I liked watching NDSU fans and then UNI fans, on separate occasions tell me that the other fanbase is the absolute worst.

So which is it? Lol

I think it is that bad of a loss. The Hawkeyes dropped over ten spots in the coaches poll and the AP poll (dropped out of the AP poll). Teams don't drop double digit spots in polls unless they lose in an embarrassing fashion to a team everyone thinks they should beat. Hawks are a top 30-40 team this year which puts them about third or fourth in the B10 West. Well, that's the perception right now. They'll need to finish the season with only one or maybe two more losses to get back into the top 25.

uni is 1-2!!!

NDSU FANS 1000% WILL CHEER FOR IOWA TO RUN THE TABLE.

IF U NEED HELP, JUST ASK, HELL KIRK SHOULD TAKE OUR PLAYS AND USE THEM LIKE DABO SWEENEY AT CLEMSON DOES

Chuck. Message me.

You're doing a great job on bville, NDSU needs to be FBS!!! Big 12 or mountain west

There certainly are quite a few, myself included at times. I will say that I've been really, really impressed with the Hawk fans in general. I know that that game was a hit to the program but I really do think that you'll find it won't be as bad as you think. The game was close and could have gone either way. I'm guessing that this game will fire the team up for the rest of the year and you'll do well. Regardless, many/most have congratulated NDSU on win and on the game well played. The OP of this thread is a great example. That takes a really good fan base to respond as Hawks fans have.

And NDSU is not that far from being 0-3. They've had two overtime wins and a kick as time expired to win the third.

It is suppose to, especially for the players but for the most part Kirk Ferentz teams don't when these situations arise.

That's why this sucks. They told us we weren't going to see the same movie....and then they showed us the same movie anyways....and now we all know where this will lead, regardless of how much they say "oh but it'll be different than last time!" or "we'll come out fired up and stick it to our next opponent for sure!"

But oh well.

Screw them.

I agree with GoHawks2009. This should wake the team up, but I doubt it will. Hasn't in the past. Welcome back to 7-5 land, people.

I saw where NDSU starting LB (possible pro) is out for the season. That will hurt their defense a little.

UNI vs NDSU in the UNI DOME will be a battle. UNI took E-Wash to the end (trick play at the end) to win it. That should be a battle.

Deluca is out, he wanted to beat IOWA since he went to camp there but wasn't offered a scholly

Replacement is Matt plank from Kansas
