It was suggested that I start a positive thread, so here goes.

Stinging Nettles will soon be popping up and it’s a great wild edible. Make sure you boil or steam it first before you consume it. I’m super excited for the wild edible season. What are some of your favorite wild edibles HBOT?

These space god gummies are pretty nice. I found them on the wild web. Also anything from Minnygrown. Found them on out on the wild web.

At school we send home a card called “Paws”itive Panthers when we recognize a student doing good. So that’s positive.

Jonquils are showing up big here. Maple buds are doing the same. We will have another bout or two of Winter, but mostly it is done for us.

I hope to be heading deep into the woods with a posse the Saturday before Easter for our annual Rampathon. We first travel up high along a gravel road and join a spur of the Blue Ridge Parkway at a dead end. This stretch is closed for the Winter, so we walk it for a while and from there we dive off along an old logging road deep down to a creek side filled with the target.

We go in with breakfast fixings and harvest a “bait” of ramps to celebrate Springtime busting out. It is a tonic that me and buddies/kids have indulged in for decades. The small bulbs are best, as the larger ones get really “strong” in flavor, nearly too strong to eat. We eat them raw, but also chop the bulb and “greens” up to mix into omelettes.
Mix in strong percolated coffee with a bit of liquor to go with eggs, meat, stewed apples, taters, ramps, hot sauce, etc..
Man, can’t wait!

At almost 80 years old. Trump won't live a whole lot longer. That's some positive news.

It really is a great time had by all.
Steep, rough, ground. Beautiful woods and creek. No clock. Quiet. Food and friends.
I’m hoping to get a couple of my kids to go with me on some wild edible hunts this year. My youngest (14) loves coming morel hunting with us, so there’s a chance she may tag along a couple times.

Spring is tied for 2nd with Winter for seasons.. (Fall is easily number #1)

Eastern Wild Turkey, numbers are still down, but this winter may have them hold off on nesting and make it easier to call one in. Limit is 2 birds, last 2 years had to hunt overtime to bag 1. Smoke the breast over sugar maple coals. So much better then the large white domestics. (Raise a few heritage each year that are just as good as an Eastern wuld birds)

Walleye, bag limit has increased on my favorite lake. Plus numbers are up from several years of great spawning seasons. Ice season was good too, freezer is in good shape for a few fish fries this summer. Baked, fried, can't beat walleye (well perch but same family)

Crappie, anyday now is going to be prime time. Big slabs that rival or beat walleye fillets. Slightly sweeter then walleye and darn good.

Bull head/brown/steelhead and rainbow trout. Bullhead is more a tradition going back to early in life hitting farmponds and rivers of NW Iowa. Browns are just a blast light lining them shallow and Steelhead is prime time right now for dropbacks. Taking day off to rest up after pushing it hard the last few weeks. Just a step below walleye and crappie but at a fish fry with a few beer and friends absutely delicious.

Mushrooms ( shiitake, oysters, chicken of the woods) and Asparagus, both are technically planted but just helping out nature. More of a mid late spring edible. Mushrooms go with everything and asparugus with a nice steak is 5 stars.

Maple Syrup, try to do about 10 gallons each year. Could make a lot more but thats enough for gifts, trading and the family to use. May ramp up if the inferior mass produced Canadian crap will be priced competitive for once. After you have syrup that is boiled down over wood you will never use that crap again. Pancakes, corn bread, marinade, made some maple.candies and sugar last year. Most nutritional sweetener on the planet.

Ramps , don't have them on my property but several friends hook me up. More abundant in the southern tier. Another one that pairs well with steak. Been meaning to start a patch, good thread to remind me to have my buddy dig a little deeper and transplant.

Being self sufficient has always been a trait that is ingrained in me. Outdoor therapy away from all the tribalism that is being ingrained into society is POSITIVE therapy. Life is great, it was under Biden and still is under Trump. F Russia and F China! Team USA always! And yes I pay way too much in taxes but....life is great!

Best post in awhile OP! We may not agree on everything in life but we can bullshit about that over a beer as neighbors and fellow countrymen. Even when we disagree, peace!

Love it! I don’t eat meat anymore but respect your self sufficiency! I love being in nature and agree 100% that it’s great therapy. Peace to you as well!

Good stuff.
Your ending quotes reminded me of one by maybe Thoreau. “ There is no thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.”
