Possible Portal Targets Thread

Hlas opines that OK s QB Arnold would be a nice option and so suddenly we are " connected" to him?
Thin gruel.
Kid would be a great get. As a Soph in the SEC stats

1421 yards passing on 62.6% completion, 12 TDs to 3 INTs, and the most upside aspect of Arnold is 444 yards rushing.

Concerns would be 5.8 y/A on passes, 9 fumbles on those rushes, and was benched against Tennessee due to turnovers

Have a feeling this kid is going to make some money, but would be a great fill game at LB. He is a bit on the shorter side.

FCS Playoffs this weekend.
Perhaps there are some talented and experienced QB's in these games which might be a fit for Iowa?

I’m sure I’m not alone and I find it mildly amusing …. for years Ferentz was roasted for signing “MAC level” recruits - recruits with an offer list of mid-major schools only except for Iowa.

Now, it seems that a lot of posters on Iowa sites yearn for the “MAC-level” players in the portal over portal players from major programs. A combination of the James Madison-Indiana effect coupled with the Cade McNamara experience, I suppose.
I hear ya. A LOT of those “MAC-level recruits” turned out to be very good players. If they stay in the program, the odds are in their favor.

Feth may not have worked out great, but Heflin and Van Vulkenburg were great gets from the MAC.

I think Feth worked out pretty well.

Van Vulkenburg came from DII, not that MAC, but your point is still valid.

How many guys can we target? Sounds like there is quite a bit of roster management to do to get to 105 by August.
According to my math after the current portal players we're at 115 rostered players, but we have close to 25+ non-scholarship players that we'll likely be trimming quite a bit from. My educated guess is we'll try and sign 8-10 portal players. That seems heavy but given the losses on defense and the offensive line, I believe that number is warranted.

Arnold has a visit to Auburn, but has just been predicted by Pete Nakos of On3 to get to Mississippi State. Don't tell me Iowa cannot outbid the other MSU.

He’s following Texas staff because he went there for 2 years…I wanted him last year when he went in, now I’m not sure why he would come to Iowa.
Someone is going to be left out of the qb shuffle for top programs, I just hope Iowa lands someone who has had success or is young and wants a shot.

CMU’s QB
I see what you did there.

I am looking forward to seeing what players Lester is able to get, especially at QB, now that he is here during winter portal opening. He did a solid job bringing in B Sully and Gill from the spring portal, which doesn't have nearly the volume or quality overall compared to the winter portal. He's been here a full season and now knows exactly what he needs for his offense. Don't know who it will be, but I have a feeling that we'll be pleased.
