Posted in the Senior Nationals thread that Cass is entered at 97kg!! šŸ‘€šŸ‘€

No, he was bigger than them. He chose to slim down. He was better when he had the size advantage.
What are you basing the better on? He is shorter than most of the other top 285 wrestlers. Kerk Paris and Steveson all have 2 inches on Tony and are more athletic. He might have been slightly harder to move around for those guys when he was a bit heavier but he wasn't going to get good shots on them.

I'm not sure there's a scenario where he keeps up with any of those guys. I think he was better against the field when he was bigger. He was dominant on top and never got ridden. Just my opinion. I'd rather be less athletic, but much bigger than less athletic and the same size.

I personally thought fat Cass was better. The year he took third before slimming down I thought he looked his best.

To me, the illustrative case is his series with Jordan Wood.

Match 1 (Big Cass): 11-0 tech in freestyle with three punishing go behinds using his size

Match 2 (Skinny Cass): 3-2 squeaker

Match 3 (Skinny Cass): OT loss at NCAA's

The argument isn't fat cass at HWT vs skinny cass at HWT. It's cass at 285 vs 97kg (214lb). There's a strong case to be made that cass will be at a more competitive and optimal weight at 97kg than at HWT.

He is not naturally bigger than any of them. They all have bigger frames. He put on weight to compete at HWT, but he's certainly more athletic and competitive at a weight closer to 220 than 285.
And I think the field simply closed on him. It wasn't him getting worse as much as it was everyone else finally catching up.

Steveson, Parris, Kerk, Hendrickson and I'll even include Davison are freak athletes for their size. 25lbs doesn't mean diddly shit to guys like that.

I am just shocked that working with Bobby didnt make him a 4 time NC........

And yet, until he intentionally lost 30 lbs he was bigger than them his entire adult life.

David Taylor has a bigger frame than Kyle Snyder. that doesn't mean he's "naturally bigger" than him.

Exactly.

Cass tried getting skinny and athletic to catch the best, but unfortunately that made him vulnerable to the rest, AND the best were just as athletic and bigger than him at that point.

Weird hill to die on when the guy is literally wrestling at 213 in a week. Heā€™s a smaller human than all the other elite heavies. End of story.

Well now he is, but that's his choice. I'm not the one dying on the hill. You're the one saying a human weighing 265 was smaller than a guy who weighs 240.

Okay, here's the hang up. We're talking about different things. MVP and I are talking about 2021 Cass vs. 2022/2023 Cass. I think he would have been better off staying big as a heavyweight.

He may very well be better at 213 than 275. That doesn't mean he was better wrestling 285 when he weighed 240 vs. when he weighed 265+.

According to this thread, Parris weighed 253 when he wrestled Cass in 2020.

Kerk looks to be as heavy as he was ever been and he weighed in at 254.4 last Sunday against Lehigh.
