Pre seeds are out

Hawks pretty expected seeds. Rhoads higher than expected. Meyer got screwed.

What difference does it make? Martin would be no picnic in the semis. As a PSU fan, I'm not sure who I'd rather have Nickal see - Brunson or Martin.

I'm sure 184 will ruffle feathers also, but the 2, 3, 4 are all interchangeable and the draws are all similar. Don't see much difference between Gravina, Courts & Koepke - especially with how Courts is wrestling this year. Semi's are Brooks-McCutcheon, Abounader-Dudley which are the top 4.

I like the chances of a Nickal loss at this tournament. Whoever he wrestles in the Semi's has already proven to give him trouble.

A matchup no one is talking about is the 133 semi with Conaway/Clark. I expect this to be one of the more exciting matches of the tournament. There won't be anyone stalling in this matchup.

McC has to get by Koepke to get to semis. I would take Courts over him any day. Conway has to get by Taylor to get to semis. Both guys I see them losing to.

I would agree that Courts is a preferable opponent to Koepke, so Brooks is probably better off at #3 than McCutcheon at #2.

As far as Conaway - I probably would have agreed with you earlier this year, but not now. The guys above and below Taylor in seeding have been wrestling at least as well as him this year.

I may be donating $100.00. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if 184 is discussed a bit before being finalized. Brooks gets seeded over Dudley, presumably due to having 1 less loss, but then Dudley gets seeded over Gravina who has 1 less loss.

I like Meyer at 2 there. Nickal will see either Jackson - who he lost to, or Martin - who had him on the ropes their last match. Will be a fun tournament regardless!

I'm not sure how Meyer getting the 2 seed is him getting screwed. Yes, I know he went undefeated in B1G and Nickal had 1 loss, but Nickal's resume is WAY better than Meyer.

You must be an Alabama football fan too. Nevermind someone goes undefeated, we should be #1 because we play SEC football.
This year it worked out for them.

Gilman vs Megaludis Semi
Clark vs Conaway Semi
Sorensen vs Retherford Final
If Coop can beat Ryan... Coop vs Nolf Semi
Meyer vs Nickal final... hopefully Meyer can get by Brunson in the semi's
Hobbled Brooks vs Hobbled McCutcheon semi
Burak vs McIntosh final ... assuming Burak wins the rematch with Pfarr.

These matches will be vital to determing the team champ.

Alex Meyer ISN'T undefeated, though. He's undefeated in B1G duals. There's a difference, especially given who he hasn't had to wrestle (Brunson, Nickal and Martin). I'm not sure how you can look at how these seasons played out and expect Meyer to be the top seed here without being intellectually dishonest.

If you aren't going to look at conference record then why even wrestle? It then comes down to rankings which are people's opinion. I don't think Meyer is better than Nickal, but you have to look at 9-0 vs 8-1 and Meyer beat Jackson. Simple as that.

Another by-product of the dreadfully awful Big10 schedule this year for Iowa that had us missing PSU, OSU and michigan.

However, Meyer didn't wrestle Nickal or Brunson so maybe they are punishing him based on his SOS. (sarcasm font)

If you're just going to go by conference record, why even have a seeding meeting? Nickal is clearly having a better season. This isn't arguable.

Yea. It's kind of dumb that the big ten would punish Meyer for the schedule they made :(

Nope, just honestly don't think Meyer is as deserving as Nickal. To be honest I'd rather him get the 2 seed and face the winner of Brunson/Barnes rather than Jackson/Martin.

Yep and thats where I think this tourney will be won

I don't know about that. Gilman, Clark and Brooks could all win their semifinals matchups and Penn State would still win the team title by a wide margin if everyone wrestles to seed. Now if Cooper knocked off Nolf, that's a different matter ...

Tough Quarters
Gilman vs Youtsey
Clark vs DiJulius
Cooper vs Ryan
Brooks vs Courts ... just because he's injured
Stoll vs Jensen ... just because he's injured

Also 4 potential Iowa/OSU quarter-final round matches that are not particularly the best draws for our guys.

Clark and Burak would be clear favorites. If healthy Brooks also. Cooper and Ryan probably favors Ryan.

Iowa is not winning this tournament, especially with two hobbled up guys. Clark has the best chance to win it, not holding my breath anywhere else. I think Gilman and Burak are good enough to do it but tough roads in front of them. Just can't see Sorensen beating Zain, have not seen the energy from him this year it would take to get it done.

You evidently didn't get the memo. Clark is way out classed by Richards. That is directly from the south end of the horses blow hole.

Just something to think about and I'm speaking without full knowledge of how college seeding meetings work now-a-days BUT if they are similar to how the new "seeding" meetings are run in high school under trackwrestling....all the criteria is entered and the computer does the work. Points are assigned from criteria and it's pretty much a done deal. If two guys are "tied" in points then it would go to a coaches' vote. The question would be which criterias are given the most weight (Big Ten schedule, head to head, common opponents, all the normal stuff).
All I'm saying is I'm sure most of subjectivity has been taken out of the meeting until it comes down to a coaches vote.

It would be nice to know the criteria used. They obviously look at more than just Big10 records, like records outside Big10 and maybe past Big10 tourney performance.

You'd think the criteria would be something like:
1 - Head to Head
2 - Common opponent in Big10
3 - Big10 record
4 - Common opponent outside Big10
5 - Overall Record
6 - Previous Big10 tourney performance
7 - Common Sense

Meyer is ahead of Nickal by criteria #2. The top two criteria are very common for seeding, so I don't see how Nickal would get seeded ahead of Meyer. From seeding meetings I am familiar with, you go down the criteria in order. As soon as a criteria is met, you don't need to go to lower criteria.
