Preseason All-American Teams - per NBC sports

another stupid post by you... ISU's overall record would be better if they had Uthoff...so what? Do you read anyone saying Hoiberg missed on Uthoff?

Morris has been a very good PG in college basketball...does that help you?
what a sorry ass.

Hoiberg missed on Uthoff twice actually which has been discussed a lot by Iowa State fans because there was an "in" there similar to Morris and Iowa. The difference is Fran didn't even try to get Morris

46? wow that should impress those NBA scouts
lets see how many are drafted ? 60 ...wow that would put him mid 2nd round...course that list you refer to is dated 2014 for college ...doesn't include overseas drafted talent.

Carry on Mr. BS

Matthews is on mock drafts for next year and he's going to be a junior. He is a very good college basketball player and will be an NBA player when it's said and done. I still have no idea why Dan tried to discredit him and say he wasn't a stud but I'm not going to argue about it anymore, anyone who follows college basketball closely knows about him

so who gives a crap ... you don't know (YOU DONT KNOW) that Fran didn't even try...and whether he did or not.....WHO GIVES A CRAP.

Once again you prove why I HATE everything ISU...its ISU fans like you.

Actually I do know Fran didn't even try because he admitted it. Someone said Morris was overrated and I said he was not and I was still surprised Fran never recruited him. I don't know why that makes you so angry.

you think it might have something to do with you? You are correct about one thing...you have no idea. Go back to your ISU site.

Ill say again...I don't care whether he did or not....it doesn't make me angry....YOU DO.
We know why you are here.
Why don't you do what you have done on other Hawkeye Report threads...and just stop posting.

I replied to a poster who said a First Team Preseason All American was overrated. That's why I'm here

Mock Drafts''' for 2017...impressive""" so I wasted my time and looked at 3 (from 3 different mock guess sites).

he doesn't show up at all in rounds 1 & 2 on two of them.
then #52 (last 2nd round) on the 3rd one.
NBA Draft.net
NBA Draft Room
NBA Mock Draft Express

But carry on with more ISU fan BS.

What do people have against E.C. Matthews on here? This is crazy. He's on a mock draft as someone who will leave to go to the NBA early by the way, he's not a senior next year

don't get it do you? we don't have anything against Matthews...its you.

I freaken know he is a junior next year...from the looks of things he better stay in school for his senior year...the 2017 NBA Mock Draft experts are not giving him much stud love status....as you are suggesting.

I only looked at 3 so maybe you could find one to make your point.

Jok is a stud, did you see him on any mock drafts after his junior year?

EC Mathews is a good player but not a 'stud'. He is too much of a chucker and put up a lot of points on not very good teams. Also, the most respectable draft site is Draft Express and he is not listed on their 2017 mock draft. I think people just see the ppg and think he is really good. I think people are also overrating Rhode Island for next year as well and this is part of it. And I don't care if someone put him on their list of 50 best college players. Unless his shooting has improved since his year off bc of injury he is not a top 50 player.

I don't really care if he is or isn't. And I don't care to waste my time comparing Jok & Mathews as what you refer to as studs.

But when you referred to Mr Stud Mathews as being on this NBA Mock Draft ...he doesn't even show up on either round in 2 of the 3 that I referenced (waiting for your reference) and #52 on the 3rd.

..if you want to ordain him as a future NBA player...great...but you gave the impression these NBA Mock Drafts were supporting you. Don't look like they are. :D..

If he's on one mock draft as a player leaving early to go to the NBA I feel confident in my statement about him being an NBA player

this is why YOU are a Zero...an ISU Fan zero..

you said he was on mock draft(s)...thats' plural...you didn't know how many he was on or you ignored the fact he was a #52 on ONE....that's one. Does that sound like a "stud"? But you were going to make a point to DanL that you just were astonished he wasn't agreeing with you...

Further...I don't care who is a stud or who isn't...in fact I hate the freaken word.

He will be on multiple mock drafts for 2018 and will play in the NBA. Is that better?

And I think technically Mathews is a senior so he won't be leaving early. He could get an extra year thought if he applies for medical hardship. And I don't see him playing in the NBA.

you said he was on NBA Mock Drafts (you posted it when you didn't know)...you said it to support (prove) your point that he is a stud...

What would be better is you stop posting here and go have conversation with your ISU cousins.

Sorry I looked at the first one and assumed he was on all of them. I apologize for making it plural. He was rated as a top 50 college player going into his junior year

Don't be offended; it was a good-natured jab. I would trade Morris for any one Hawkeye player right now other than Jok: I really wish he was wearing the black and gold.

There were games this year when ISU got down later in the game and Niang would just take over; it occurred to me that the guy could have averaged 40 pts a game if they had chosen to let him try.

Still think he's a prick though. ;) And still think Morris will miss him a LOT next year. Time will tell.
We will miss Niang in ways that aren't necessarily apparent. Morris will benefit by the return of Nads and the arrival of the juco. I expect MM to score more, partly because his role will change, partly because the offense is going to be completely different sans Georges.

The talk about the four-guard lineup is prompted by the presence of four exceptional guards, but more so by the lack of anybody of any size. If there's a big guy, it will be a newcomer. Against a lot of teams, I don't think this will be a big problem. Thomas and Burton both rebound well for their size. But against teams with good inside games, it's going to be a real vulnerability on defense.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm really looking forward to the season. We won't have the inflated expectations of last season, and the coach will actually be coaching his team and his style of play.

If Naz returns to the form of his late season heroics of a few years back (which isn't a given), they could actually get away with running the hell out of their opponents with 3-4 guards. A lack of defensive rebounding wouldn't be insurmountable in that case.

But, I'm kinda' hoping they don't. ;)

I'd consider Marble a stud

Marble's career stats
12.5 ppg, 41% FG, 33% 3 pt

Matthews career stats
15.4 ppg, 41% FG, 33% 3pt

Well he was a stud his Senior year. Probably his junior year as well. But just comparing their career ppg and shooting % is not a good way to compare them at all. And I imagine you did that thinking you were proving some kind of point but it is really short sighted. Marble wasn't a stud because he was a great shooter it was because of his all around game.
Marble is a superior all around player and his size and length made him more of an NBA prospect. But I don't see him lasting long in the NBA. No way Mathews does. Mathews like I said will have to try and be a PG if he wants to make it to the NBA but he can neither shoot nor pass. That is a bad combination for a PG. He is not even listed among the top 80 prospects in his class on Draft Express. Like I said, he is a chucker. On a good team he wouldn't have put up as many shots and wouldn't have the ppg that he did. He isn't even the best player on his team. Hassan Martin is.

Just compare Marble and Mathews efficiency numbers. It isn't close.

I am confused why you think Mathews is so good.

Matthews averaged 15.4 ppg as an underclassmen which is already impressive and he's only going to get better. If he would have already graduated I wouldn't be so high on him but players usually improve throughout their career. I do agree though, at 6'4 with a 6'7 wingspan he'll probably need to improve his PG skills to be a factor at the next level.

Well he only has one year left unless he gets a medical hardship waiver.
He has had twice as many turnovers as assists his sophomore year and actually had the most turnovers in the A10. Now maybe it's just Dan Hurley's offense because Terrell was basically just as inefficient as Mathews had been. But his efficiency numbers so far are not good enough to be a top guard in my opinion.

His PER his sophomore year was 16.6.

For reference Monte's sophomore PER was 21.5 Marble's was around 19.

He didn't even play half of one game as a junior, I don't know why he wouldn't get a medical hardship.

They need a Lafester Rhodes to come out of nowhere to give them some height. The guy didn't play enough to letter his first three years, then made second-team all-conference as a senior.

I agree Naz is a question mark because of the surgery.

The team should be good enough to get an NCAA bid; anything more than that would be gravy.

CyCity, why do you post 1,000,000 times over here? I'm not an Iowa fan and even I'm annoyed on their behalf.

Need to give up on arguments sooner than I do, especially when no matter what I say certain people won't listen. I'll back off

You're lucky I'm not an administrator. Any mention of Mr. Rh#@es would get you a lifetime ban. ;)

That was an amazing game. A lot of people -- especially Hawkeye fans -- think that was his only good game. Au contraire. He averaged over 22 ppg and was on the second all-conference team in a year when the first team was really loaded: Grayer, Manning, others.

Doc played all 45 minutes. One of my favorite stories about that game was that Jim Hallihan, Orr's top assistant, told him during a timeout late in the game that they needed to give Lafester a break. "He's got 40 points!" replied Johnny. "I don't care if he dies out there!"

This arguement over Mathews and Morris, and the NBC list, makes me yearn for the good old days of college basketball.

Both fine players, and would I love to have them as Hawkeyes, but damn.

Matthews, 191 turnovers in his career. Right at three turnovers a game. And we could talk about how Marble used the three to get open to penetrate, and Matthews never saw a shot he didn't like......

.....the argument you refer to is with a Clone who uses deception to make his points. He is a freaking liar.

I remember as a season ticket holder of ISU games back then. Lafester during his first 3 years would average a point per minute during mop up time.

Yeah, and there weren't a lot of mop-ups. He didn't play much at all. He was kind of a joke, actually. Fans would holler for Johnny to put him in when we got a big enough lead late in the game. When Johnny said in the summer that Lafester might be the center, everybody thought he was kidding. But as a starter, he was a different player. That was a terrific team until Gary Thompkins got mono.
