Btw...I have 3 years of eligibility left if anybody wants to pass that on to Tom
Anybody know how many matches one can wrestle in a season and still get a medical?
Mitch Bowman is on the treadmill as we speak...going to pull a Grothus[/QUOTE
If Bowman can suck down to 74 we would be in great hands there.... didn’t work out so good with Grothus
Used to be 3 dates or 30% of the schedule whichever one was greater. But I haven't looked it up in a few years so it could've changedAnybody know how many matches one can wrestle in a season and still get a medical?

Kem was 23-2 as a redshirt. It's not so much the medical, it's getting the 6th year. I would look at Ashnault as a good example as why Kem will probably get another year.
I'm not sure how many matches Kem wrestled in his redshirt year but Ashnault wrestled around 23 times IIRC and wrestled in Universities after the season and still got that extra year (this year).
I hope he gets it. At the end of the day we want to see our guys compete 4 yrs for a championship.
Injuries suck..good luck to Kem healing up quickly

Yea would definitely rather see him get another year and possibly have two years to wrestle at 100 percent..... watching Mcdonnough wrestle hurt all year his senior year suckedSilver lining.... Kem is almost a shoe in for a medical. He comes back bigger and stronger than ever and is in the line up and extra year with Lee and Co.
I have zero doubt that he will thrive from this. Mike will attack this like he does everything else in life and come back better than ever.
Didnt Miklus get a 6th and a right to transfer?
Kem wrestled on Jan 30 his redshirt year.Ashnault only wrestled 3 events his redshirt year so he technically missed 2 complete seasons with injuries.Thats why he got a medical I didn't realize he missed 2 seasons so his situation is way different then Kem.Did he wrestle after Jan 1? I'm pretty sure in Ashnaults case he got hurt around December and then stayed out rest of year, though he did wrestle in Universities .
It's a crap shoot. IMO wrestling a non revenue sport and I think the NCAA is looking to let these guys compete 4 yrs for NCAA championship. If this was basketball or football I don't think there'd be a chance. This is all my opinion so who knows.
Miklus situation is odd he wrestled in 6 events as a redshirt starting Nov 3 and last event Dec 29Don't know Miklus situation much. As far as the transfer..he graduated so anyone can do that. As far as the 6th year, I believe you have to prove you were injured 2 yrs if you redshirted. So Kem is obviously out this year, he'd have to make the case that his redshirt year he was unable to compete after a certain time period..again..I'm no expert..but just using Ashnault as example
I would, but the current locker room doesn't accommodate seniors very well.Btw...I have 3 years of eligibility left if anybody wants to pass that on to Tom

competition dates, i believeJust checked Wrestlestat..looks like Ashnault wrestled 18 times his redshirt yr. He wrestled 8 times on Nov 3rd, 5 times Nov 10th and then 5 times March 2nd. So I'm not sure if it goes by events or what.
competition dates, i believe
I thought it was pounds too, but it's definitely %oh i didn't know if was %. Thought it was just 1.5 lbs a week. Is he really going for it?
Very disappointing as Kemerer is my favorite human wrestler (Spencer is not human).

174 - Kemerer
184 - Wilcke
197 - Warner

This works out nicely for the Hawks. Kennedy slides into 174 after his RS year in 2021.Very disappointing as Kemerer is my favorite human wrestler (Spencer is not human).

I believe it's 3 contests or 30%, whichever is greater. The problem with the medical waiver though, is it only for guys that haven't redshirted previously? If so, he'd have to qualify for the Five Year Waiver, which he would still more than likely get.Anybody know how many matches one can wrestle in a season and still get a medical?

This sucks. He is a class act and a great representative for Iowa wrestling .wish him the best and a speedy recovery .Michael Kemerer to Have Season-Ending Surgery
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa junior Michael Kemerer is scheduled to have surgery this week and will miss the 2018-19 NCAA wrestling season. The announcement came Tuesday from head coach Tom Brands.
“We always do what’s best for our athletes and this is what is best for Kemerer,” Brands said. “He is as good a wrestler as there is in the country, and that is a credit to him doing things the right way. I know he is driven to come back even stronger and we will do everything we can to help him along the way.”
“I’m disappointed I won’t be on the mat with my teammates this season, but I am 100 percent committed to my rehab and recovery so I can return to the mat in 2019,” Kemerer said. “I have complete faith in my teammates, coaches, and medical staff, and they have faith in me. I will continue to give them all the very best that I have, on and off the mat.”
Kemerer is a two-time All-American from Murrysville, Pennsylvania. He placed third as a redshirt freshman and fourth as a sophomore at the NCAA Championships. He has a career record of 60-6, competing at 157 pounds in 2017 and 2018. He was projected to be Iowa’s starting 174-pounder in 2019.
Kemerer has not competed this season. He will seek a medical hardship waiver at the end of the season.
Iowa hosts Iowa State on Saturday at 2 p.m. (CT) in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series.
