Pretty sure Trump and Vance were fuming after this Prayer

If asking the chief civil guest to have mercy is poking him in the eye, why even have a Christian service at that point?
the point is simply that there is a very easy way to discuss mercy, and to pray that the government be one of compassion, without poking him in the eye.

there is no way to directly address something trump disagrees with without him and his followers interpreting it as "poking him in the eye"

the search for their own persecution is their defining trait

the guy who - by his own admission - doesn't believe in asking for forgiveness is here to tell this bishop about christian values

The biggest take away from this whole thing is that it reemphasizes the importance of separation of church and state.
However, unfortunately Christendom has been in bed with the world's governments for centuries.
Jesus himself said his followers were no part of the world, as he was no part of the world. This basic truth escapes most when dealing with issues of politics and religion.
This kind of social sermon has no business coming from any professed teacher of the Bible.

Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) heavily criticized statements made by the Right Rev. Mariann Budde on Tuesday at the inaugural prayer service held for President Trump.

“The person giving this sermon should be added to the deportation list,” Collins wrote in a post on X with a clip of Budde’s comments.
Mike Collins should be added to somebody's list.

Which parts are you referring to?

He's just a deranged, depraved sociopath. Way to go Republican party! Way to go 50% of voters! 4 yrs of this, I'm sure it will end well putting this psycho back in control of the country!

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
One truth and one way to the Father? There's only one right answer. That's not wokeness.
True, the "follow my way or forget about Heaven" is the least woke part, and its why I don't buy into that bullshit.

As someone with the letters M.Div after my name, I can tell you that the credentialed clergy are in lockstep behind the Bishop. She demonstrated immense bravery and faithfulness.
This cannot be farther from the truth and you know it.

The pastor decided to cast judgement at a distasteful time. She should have remembered Matthew 7:5 first and foremost and had the opportunity to point people to Jesus. Instead, she just pointed her finger at Trump.

Many in clergy would not agree with the position she took. They would not have done what she said. A lot of the same clergy also don’t care to get involved in the debate (much smarter than all of us here)!

FWIW - anyone can get a silly M.Div. Acceptance of Christ is not a requirement.

The synoptic gospels might be more your speed. John is more symbolism and poetry. Focusing on Jesus talking about the way is a less exclusivist interpretation of that verse.

lol.

I said credentialed clergy, not some guy who woke up and decided he was qualified to lead a non-denom. And yes, all of the credentialed clergy groups that I am a part of (thousands) are in united in agreement. Especially when it comes to immigration, the bible is explicitly clear on that one and even conservative credentialed clergy are almost unanimous in agreement.

The “grassroots” republicans haven’t existed in a long time. I’m assuming you thought you were being funny.
Sure…as all the poor rural places in the US vote conservative and the corporate hungry money grubbers in the city vote liberal.

Face it, the Conservative Party IS the grassroots party.

You will need to provide some data to support your claims. There are many established groups who want to work to care for the less fortunate and immigrate (legally) as many as possible but also demonstrate a clear respect for the rule of law ("give to Caesar what is Caesar," Romans 13, etc).

My church belongs to a coalition spanning the southwestern United States (hundreds of thousands) and does not take the stance you are suggesting is "mainstream." We align mainly to Baptist but do not participate in the SBC. All pastorial leadership and teaching pastors are M. Div credentialed or greater. FWIW, my friend worked to get his M. Div and works in semi-conductors....

I would like to understand how you arrived at your assertion with details, please. Can you define "groups I am a part of" to clarify for the record?

Bottom line - a good pastor should consistently and always point people to Jesus. She did not do that. She pointed to Trump with her own agenda instead of Jesus's agenda.
