Pretty sure Trump and Vance were fuming after this Prayer

So you are choosing not to name your denomination? How do you quantify this “no shortage?” By what measure or poll are you referring to?

I’ll ask you some simple questions:

- Do you think Budde gave a sermon or a lecture?

- Did she point people to Christ’s grace and redemptive power? Or did she point to Trump specifically?

- Is her role primarily to spread the Gospel or other? If the former, did she do it Monday? If the latter, what is her role?
You are welcome to use your search engine of choice to learn what the Mainline Denominations are. I assure you that you have heard of them. I wish you well as you hear words from an abundance of Christian leaders who are speaking in support of the Bishop today and learn about a theology that may be new to you. Google will serve you well for this too.

Budde used her pulpit to cast judgement and would have been good to remember Matthew 7 (which I’ve read many times thank you).

It is no wonder your “mainline” denominations are in decline. People are yearning for truth in a more orthodox sense these days. Your group is going further & further away and the numbers reflect as much.

Budde missed a great opportunity Monday to point all towards Jesus. It is sad we cannot agree on that.

there is no way to directly address something trump disagrees with without him and his followers interpreting it as "poking him in the eye"

the search for their own persecution is their defining trait
sure there is. For example, you could follow the rule that applies when arguing with baseball umpires, which is that you can say pretty much any word other than "you" (and as applicable here, referring to him specifically). It's very easy to talk about compassion without doing so, for example, by simply reading or recounting, say, luke 15:20 (which for my money really tells you most of what you need to know about christianity).

Seriously - have you ever been to a church service, of any kind, where the pastor in their sermon/homily called out a specific parishioner on any matter of sin, redemption, contrition, or the like? I haven't. Her substance was fine, her method was not. His response, even less so.

Always. Always. Always. Libs lick it up regardless and always get owned.
i don't begrudge the episcopal bishop of washington living in the residence associated with the cathedral, but this brings to mind a funny side story.

In 2011, we had an earthquake in DC, which as it happened did some damage to the recently completed (after about 70 years) washington national cathedral tower. So the scaffolding went back up. One friday afternoon in about 2020, i was sitting on the rockers at my club, looking at the dc skyline, and i commented on the fact that they were still up to my happy hour partner. He remarked that he had spoken to a senior cathedral official about that recently, and that the official's response was along the lines of: "Do you have any appreciation for the fundraising value of keeping that scaffolding up?" (Notre Dame was reconstructed in less than five years; the scaffolding is still up.)

she centered all her remarks (at least the ones I've seen) around "asking for mercy"

i didn't see at any point her calling out any of trump's sins

but this kind of expectation to treat trump as some mild mannered precious baby that must be coddled to avoid tantrums (which, of course, happen any time he faces anything resembling criticism or challenge) is par for the course at this point

I'd be curious to hear any conversations with your pastor about this prayer service. Urging decency and promoting the teachings of Christ aren't out of the norm at my church.

It would probably be along the lines of: “….yes, Jesus did tell us to love unconditionally, pursue peace and reconciliation, love your enemies, and be humble and serve others but…”

The leader of the free world folks. He went on a rage tweet rampage after midnight.
This proves once again it's the anger and desire to bully that drives Trump and his base, especially the hatred of women. Nobody should mistake the extra bit of anger Trump feels towards women, and why posters like Northern get so angry at women.
This also pokes a hole in the argument that Trump will work around the clock to protect America and lower the cost of eggs.

the point is simply that there is a very easy way to discuss mercy, and to pray that the government be one of compassion, without poking him in the eye.
You keep mistaking Trump for a rational human being, instead of the 11 year old spoiled brat of a boy that leads the GOP. He went on a rage tweet bender after midnight over the nasty woman. How do you avoid poking a person like this in the eye? He's half a step away from being Joffrey Baratheon at this point.

she addressed her comments to "Mr. President".

actually, i've made my view on his reaction quite clear - completely inappropriate.

Trump went off on her on X. So no he wasn't fine. He went full-on dick afterward.
Oh, I am sure he was upset and let it be know afterwords. That was not what was said. It was claimed they both gave her the stare of death and they didn't. And, I did not have a problem with what she said.

You did, but that wasn't my point. How do you avoid poking someone in the eye who leads a grievance based movement? He's always looking for the next outrage or example of being victimized that makes people like Northern hit "donate".
