Does anyone close to the program know if or how much iowa stresses protecting the knees and shoulders?

I just watched the iowa Michigan match and I noticed that there were certain positions where I could see Spencer intentionally avoiding putting stress on his knees. Is this something Spencer is doing out of necessity or is this something the coaches stress to all wrestlers?

As a former hs wrestler, I always thought it was important to know what positions to avoid to prevent injury. Better to give up a takedown instead of putting yourself at risk and getting an injury.

There is a fine line between toughness and stupidity. How does iowa approach this?

I would guess all wrestlers at this level know which positions will fvck you up the most, and it doesn’t need to be taught.

At the end of the day, every wrestler has their own style and they do what they think is right in the moment.

There is technique behind preventing injuries. If your coaches cant teach this, then you have piss poor coaches.

No offense, but if you coach toughness, but leave this up to the individual wrestler, then the coaches are not doing the best job they can. (I'm not accusing the iowa coaches of this, just saying preventing injuries can be coached).
