Daisey? It's been a while since we've had such a total rebuild (1 returning starter). I'm looking forward to the play of all six freshmen, and anyone that might make an 8-10 man rotation. I guess if I had to pick 1 it would be Pemsl. I think he'll be in the rotation, while a lot of posters have him as a potential redshirt.

I'd guess Dom. Personally I'd go a different direction. Moss or Cook, probably Moss for the playground enviornment.

I want to see Moss and might think about taking Moss after Jok for a few reasons. I think the guard play will have less depth as far as first round difference makers, I think the post position is much deeper in a balanced sense-I think you wouldn't have much of an edge with any one of these over the other(at this point) Wagner, Baer, Pemsl, Cook, Kreiner, and of course Dom which would be my next pick. I mean after Moss I think williams is solid but not game changer without some guys to dish it too (although interesting to see him as "the guy" on his team) Excited I am

I hope you are right about Pemsl, but I am one of those who feel he needs a year to develop. He has said that he wants to play the 3 but he will never be able to do that in his current condition. Give him a year to get stronger and in better shape and he'll have a better idea of what he is going to grow up to be - either a bigger, stronger interior player or a lighter, quicker wing forward.

Link to where he has said he wants to play the 3??

Ok??? Nowhere in that entire thing does he say he wants to play the 3. So....???
So what? I wasn't taking sides. I was providing a fairly recent link that contained pertinent information regarding Pemsl. I would say that BBHawk probably used a poor choice of wording in saying that he "wants" to play the three as opposed to simply being open to the idea of playing the three (but wanting to be able to defend the position)

Regardless, I don't see why you feel the need to be a condescending ass in every single one of your posts

Based on recent history I don't think any current Hawkeyes are drafted 1st overall. Only 2 or 3 guys currently on the same roster can play on the same summer league team per NCAA rules.

I don't know which pros will be playing PTL this year but expect a Matt Gatens, Ali Faroukmanesh, Jared Cole, etc. type to be drafted 1st.

Also incoming recruits are technically not yet on the roster so they don't count as being from the same team just yet, so don't be surprised to see the 1st year guys drafted higher than you might expect. I remember Uthoff being drafted 1st or 2nd overall his 1st year back in Iowa City for this very reason.

Also, I know PTL starts up sometime in mid June.

Does anyone know when the PTL draft will be?

Since 2010 (that's as far as i went back, a Hawkeye has been drafted first overall.

I heard him say it in previous interviews. I'll look for it when I get to one of my PCs. But this quote from the areticle someone liked about spells it out: "When I get to the Big Ten, I’m not going to play the ‘5.’ So just to be able to improve my quickness and be able to guard a ‘3’ out on the wing is going to be huge."

Edit - from the Dubuque Telegraph Herald this spring: "Based on last week’s visit, Pemsl is starting on a 10-week diet to add lean muscle. In high school, he was Wahlert’s predominant interior threat, averaging a double-double and racking up most of his points down low with his back to the basket. However, in AAU play, Pemsl said he has been utilized in a wing capacity, and for the Golden Eagles he often took the ball up the floor for transition points.

Apparently, that’s the type of play coaches want Pemsl to focus on during the offseason.

“I’ve talked with coach McCaffery over the few weeks prior to (the visit),” he said. “If they want me to play the 3, it’s obvious that I need a better jump shot. So one of the things I’m working on is getting my shot off quicker...

“I’ll keep up with the diet and workout program over the next 10 weeks until I’m on campus,” Pemsl added. “They’ve put me on a high protein diet right now where I’m just building lean muscle.”
You will need a subscription to read it but it is in this article: http://www.thonline.com/sports/local_sports/article_2b498386-64a2-52b4-84a5-b0dda3382853.html.

That rule has been changed. they do count.

I thought that last year's breakout PTL player was Dom Uhl.

As for Fleming, I think he could score at this level, but I don't think he was ready to defend or pass at this level.

Prime time league is a good watch to see some things the players bring to the Hawks. It shows things you know a player has to work on, to improve and shows you his skills that can translate into great assets during the season but the real work is done in fall practices, team defense, running the offense quickly and efficiently and how well they can get tuned into each other. The ptl is the beginning of the process. I'm looking forward to it.

I personally don't see Cordell as a 3. He's an under the basket player when he's most effective. Fran may not be quite sure what to do with him, so he's been told to work on the 3 and the 4. As far as the Prime Time-- after Jok, I think the players who are selecting will go with an experienced player with good leadership and camaraderie skills. I'd go with one of the older, veteran guys like Uhl or Baer.

I think at best Pemsl will be a 4 who can shoot the 3, too. But he may surprise us

If Dale Jones is rehabbed enough to play, I'd put he and Cook ahead of Moss. Having said that, I have no idea how good Moss is at this point but it will be exciting to find out.

Nothing quoted above suggests Fran intends to use Pemsl predominantly as a 3. Seeing him as a four who could occasionally give us some minutes here and there at the 3 depending on matchups--especially as his conditioning improves--fits just as well with the comments above from Fran and Pemsl. I guess we'll see fairly soon.

I like Pemsl's strength as a 3-4 - I think he could be a really good piece to the puzzle over the next few years.

Thanks for the link BB. I hadn't read that expanding his game was his #1 focus, but it makes sense as a way to potentially earn more minutes. If he can add some minutes as a SF it probably means more playing time. I agree with Top though. I think the quotes point more towards a player working on his versatility, than one making himself more of a SF.

The reason I like Pemsl is his strength, and ability to score in the low post. That's why I think he'll contribute early on. If he can make himself into a 3/4 this summer, I like his chances of playing even more in 2016-17.

Among current incoming and roster Hawks,I'd take Moss over Williams or Cook at number 2. After Williams at 3 and Cook at 4, I'd take Uhl at 5 because I am not sure how well or how much Jones can perform at this stage. Jones is probably rehabbing and will sit out PTL. Not sure. The next Hawk after Uhl would be Baer. After that, free for all. BE can keep scores and stats:rolleyes:.

Yes, I know. I remember hearing Cordell say that he wanted to play the 3/wing forward in interviews but I cannot find it in quotes anywhere other than like this.

I still think he is best suited as a PF that can step out as I think he can guard that position but I don't know if he could ever have the mobility to guard a true B1G small forward.

Wow, that's a couple weeks later than last year, right?
