Pro-Style I Formation/22 Package Must Stay At Iowa

I know some people have complained about our "boring" offense, but I think we are at a turning point in college football. The offense Iowa runs and teams like us is now difficult for teams to get up and prepare for. This is because the spread/spread option is the norm these days. We heard this from Ohio State last year as it was the first pro style they'd played against.

I read an article out of Nebraska today from their DC that says they are having difficult preparing for these types of offenses.

This leads me to believe that Iowa MUST keep this offense. It benefits us moving forward.

Sounds good to me. I like how we play. The spread/option where the QB takes off running all the time is not exciting to me. It makes it seem too much about 1 player. It is nice to have a QB with some mobility though and can escape when the pocket breaks down.
Also I don't like how along with these types of offenses becoming more prevalent, defense many times seems to be an afterthought with a lot of teams. I like good defenses and not the "last team to score wins" games.

And by the way,
Nebraska is having difficulties preparing for any kind of offense. Not just this type!

I'm not sure prostyle offenses are all that rare in the b1g- iowa, msu, wisc, michigan just off the top of my head put their qbs under center.

Also from the type of O and D perspective, there's nothing out there (imo) better than Iowa's aesthetically though a slight upgrade in talent would help us get even more efficient (and I think we are getting there). ou and osu type offenses are buttugly to watch.

Not that I'm suggesting that Iowa should fossilize, incorporating new concepts on offense is fine and blend it in (Iowa does this currently).

I think the next evolution of the offense is keeping that 22 or 12 package but shifting between spread/empty backfield and power looks. The D can't change personnel to adjust but the O has the flexibility to either pass or pound.

Run a pro style offense and sell it in recruiting that, along with Iowa's stellar player development, we are preparing players to play at the NFL level. Keep putting players in the NFL and the higher quality recruits will follow. Just need to sell that aspect on the recruiting trail, especially to QB's. A lot of QB's are getting to the NFL and have never been under center, have terrible footwork, and have never had to make a decision because the plays have been pre-determined.

That will happen when KF retires.
