A wrestler who meets 2 out of 3 criteria (70% or greater win %, top 30 coaches rank, or top 30 RPI) will earn a pre-allocated spot for his conference. Wrestlers then can earn an automatic qualifying spot at NCAA's by finishing high enough in their conference tourney. For example, if the Big 10 has 8 pre-qualifying spots at a weight, the top 8 finishers in the conference tourney will earn a berth to NCAA's. A wrestler earning a pre-qualifying sport for the conference tourney doesn't guarantee that wrestler a spot at NCAA's, they still have to finish high enough at the conference tourney or get awarded an at-large bid.
