Projected starting 5

Don't sleep on the Murray Twins, they're both older then true freshmen, long, athletic, and both have game. Just saying.....
Fran does have lots of options depending on the situations that may arise during each game.
OP is talking starting. I’d be shocked if either Murray started this year barring injury to Luka, Nunge or JW.

PG -- Jordan B, Joe T, Connor
2G - CJF, Jordan, Joe W
3 - Weezie, PMac, Connor
4 - PMac, Jack, Connor, Kreegan
5- Garzilla, Jack

If Patrick McCaffery is healthy and I think he is, he starts. Need the length and passing that
Patrick brings with his game. Or, perhaps Jack has come back stronger than I realize.

#gohawks
There's no way PMac starts given who we have returning. I'm hopeful he plays a huge role this year but he won't be starting unless we have guys out from sickness or injury.

That's when Nunge was starting in our stupid two center lineup. That wasn't necessarily because JBo came off the bench. He can come off the bench and still get starters minutes.
Does anyone know Jack's status for the first week or so? I assume he's back in Indiana with his Dads untimely passing. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family. Sure would be nice for this young man to catch a break sometime. He's had a rough couple of years, and losing his father is devastating. Hopefully his team mate family will pick him up.

CJF and JBo are definitely classified as good passers. CMac is a great passer... And I would say CJF is a good playmaker. Maybe not great, but the guy is good on both sides if the ball.. You could argue JBo too, since he lead the nation in scoring efficiency the last 5 minutes of the game his junior year.... That's one cold blooded mofo.

I agree that the majority of the minutes go to the starters. Garza, Weezy, CJF, CMac & JBo... Joe T should get in the 20s. And PMac and Nunge take the rest.

From my coaching couch, Perkins, Ulis and The Murrays play based on who has the best defense, AND the least turnover prone. We'll need it at crucial times. Although, that's the toughest part of the game for a rookie... But that's my couch.. Fran may take the scorers.

I'm sorry, but you clearly don't understand the importance of CMC, especially in a lineup with Fredrick and Jbo (neither of which I would classify as good passers/playmakers). CMC will be in the starting lineup as he provides a unique skillset as a forward, and will be the best playmaker in the starting lineup (assuming Joe T comes off the bench, which I think he will.)

1 - JBo/Joe T/Ulis
2 - CJF/Jbo/Perkins
3 - Weezy/Pmac/One of the Murrays
4 - CMC/Pmac/One of the Murrays
5 - Garza/Nunge/Josh O

I see the majority of the minutes going to the 5 starters, Joe T, Pmac, Nunge, and whatever one of the Murrays or Perkins stands out the most, as Connor can play guard or forward, so you take the best one out of that last group.

You have Garza and Wieskamp as Dream and Clyde? Lol.
There are no comparisons and you prove it with those examples.

Ah I didn't know I was dealing with a moron here. One poster said this Hawk team reminded him of the 90s Rockets, so I gave the comparison of this roster with that roster. You dumbass.

Garza = Olajuwon
Toussaint = Cassell
Bohannon = Smith
Fredrick = Elie
Wieskamp = Drexler
C McCaffery = Horry
P McCaffery = Thorpe
You guys do realize that The Phi Slamma Jamma teams were not the Houston Rockets. It was the University of Houston that carried that badge. Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon both played for the University of Houston. I remember Drexler playing for the Rockets late in his career after playing for Portland for many years. Drexler may be one of the only people to have played high school basketball, college basketball and pro basketball all in the same city.

I find stupidity and ignorance humorous. Lol

Ah I didn't realize you were one of those idiots who thinks a comparison means player X equals player Y. Try to not be so dense, and maybe follow along with the thread next time.

The original reply was to a post about a team with one great center surrounded by other good G/F types. Are you saying that Iowa is not a team like that?

The guy I quoted said mid-90s Rockets team. Not the 80s Cougars.

What the hell are you telling me that for? I don't care. I just pointed out that the Houston Rockets were not the Phi Slamma Jamma team. It was the University of Houston when Clyde and Hakeem played there.

You replied to me, guy. Yes I know the Pi Slamma Jamma was the 80s Cougars. You didn't tell us anything new.

I feel like Mugatu in Zoolander dealing with people on this board this morning.

Excuse me asswipe, but the problem just may be you. You posted this comparing the Hawks to a Rockets roster and someone had already tried to tie in the Phi Slamma Jamma moniker on the rockets.
Garza = Olajuwon
Toussaint = Cassell
Bohannon = Smith
Fredrick = Elie
Wieskamp = Drexler
C McCaffery = Horry
P McCaffery = Thorpe
If you knew the the Rockets were not the Phi Slamma Jamma team why didn't you say so instead of being an asshole? Note that my post was respectful. Your's not so much.

Anytime someone starts with "you do realize" you show your smugness. I replied to the 90s Rockets roster, nothing to do with the 80s Cougars.

Can't believe me replying to a comparison of the 90s Rockets to this current Hawks team has blown up to this.

Yes you still don't get it. I'd say try harder to figure it out but it's clear you're too stupid.
If someone said this Hawks team reminded them of the 2002 New Jersey Nets, Garza would be Todd McCollough.
No, I completely understand. It's stupid, irrelevant, and they shouldn't be compared as to not insult Dream.

So you aren't impressed with Jordan's 504 assists in 3.3 years? You do realize that he is on pace to hold the assist record at Iowa, right?

Now you're just making stuff up. I never said ''you do realize '' as if I was only talking to you. You need to get over yourself. What I said , and it's obvious that I was talking to the people posting in this thread who might be mistaken regarding who the Phi Slamma Jammers were, was '' You guys do realize ...'' You're too sensitive Sally. I was trying to be polite when I said that and you took it as a slight. You're the idiot.

You only quoted his post. God damn there are some idiots on the board this morning. Mtown and Goodbyebobby need their own board where they can argue back and forth the whole time, neither one understanding what the other is saying.

Agreed. The level of ignorance to compare Garza, a very good college player and great Hawkeye, to an all time NBA great is staggering.

Yes, because player comparisons must only be made between players of equal skill level. If some 8 year old has a killer sky hook, we mustn't compare him to Kareem. That might hurt Kareem's feelings. Instead we should compare him to Timmy from down the street, but only if Timmy isn't too good.

What we may lose in sports talk banter, we will gain in the comfort of knowing our all time great athletes won't be insulted from a message board post.

You're as stupid as the rest of them.

Who starts has never been something I care about all that much. I'm more interested in how Fran manages who is on the floor during the flow of any given game.

I like the small ball lineup unless the opponent are monsters up front. JW at the 3 and Connor at the 4.

having Bohannon on the floor is always a balance between the pure shooting prowess that he brings vs the defensive liability that he is on the other end. It will be an interesting balance between he and Toussaint given that they are nearly polar opposites in what they offer at the position.

The hockey line shift substitution mentality should be dead. He's got multiple pieces to work with who offer a variety of ways to counter or take advantage of what an opponent is doing.

Four guys are carved in stone. Joey T or Jordan is up in the air. Strengths in both directions. Jordan is kind of legend so I'm thinking he starts. I'm also guessing the 80 minutes at the two guard positions will be pretty evenly divided by the end of the season.

Hard Luck Jack will see a few minutes a game for Luka, a guard will be in that threesome above, and P Mac are the three bench guys that can play in close games. I think we'll see the Murray boys in the regular rotation getting time at the 4 position-to the extent positions other than point guard and center matter on this team. The poster above had it right, they're older than most freshmen. They played a much more challenging schedule in Academy ball and they both showed nice offensive and rebounding skills and effort.

We will start to see answers tomorrow. GO HAWKS!!!!

I have not responded to anything that Goodbyebobby has posted. I only posted because it was beginning to be apparent that some posters believed that the Rockets were the Phi Slamma Jamma team. Period. And, for my troubles fivecardstud14 jumped in a ridiculous manner because he took offense to my phrase, '' You guys do realize ...'' and now you jump in insulting everyone and calling me names even though I have not replied to your posts. What kind of fing people act like you? Idiots and malcontents. I reserve my caustic remarks to those who call me names first. People like you. Assholes who are unfortunately becoming a majority of Hawkeye fans who are perpetually malcontented and mentally off balance. Btw, Dimwit Delores, you have more argumentative posts here than I do and you are calling people out and ambushing them. Who the hell made you sheriff, judge and jury? You are the worse poster here without a doubt.

There’s an argument to be made for anyone in the top 7 to start because they’ve all been starters.

2 questions:

  1. What players do you want in at the end of the game?
  2. Which getting more minutes are going to make the D better?
Because, D’s GOT to get better.
#1 answer is JBo. #2 answer is JoeT.

Patrick is a wild card because haven’t seen his game on either end with 25+ extra pounds, but am sure interested to see it. 20 lbs extra muscle sure changed CJ’s outlook from his true frosh year.

Think we’ll probably see the expected:

Garza Connor Wieskamp CJ JBo

starters, back by Nunge, Patrick and JT. BUT, JT minutes need to increase to get Iowa where they want to be. Fran has said JT’s “role” will be the same this year. Whatever that means.

G: JorBo
G: Frederick
G: Conner
G: Weezy
C: Garza

Next in:
Joe T
Nunge
Ulis
Perkins
PMac

Your starting five is th same I projected in a separate thread in the Lounge, although my next in were Nunge, Toussaint, and PMac. My projected last guy in the rotation was Ogundele, which is mostly just a hope taht he'll be sufficient to let Garza take a blow when needed.

With all the guards we already have, barring injury I think it's going to be really difficult for Ulis or any of the other guards to get into the rotation, although he could still get minutes in garbage time.
