PSU Predictions

I think Uthoff got his mojo back in the second half against Minnesota. PSU will have no answer for him. He goes for 25 and 10 and Iowa wins 74-63.

PSU comes out on fire, Hawks come out tired. Fight to the finish. Iowa 70, PSU 67.

Hawks are tired. But they also have experience and this time of year almost everyone is tired. Iowa by ten 66-56 in a war of guts. This is why we've got some guys in the best shape of their lives.

Top players. Woody, Jok, Wagner, Uthoff. Uthoff's shot will be a little off but we'll outrebound Penn State and interior defense will be strong.

Knowing that they have a week off after tomorrow night's game, I think they come out with a little more energy and beat PSU by +10. I'll go 76-62.

I don't buy the "tired" argument.

19-22 year old kids can fully rejuvenate fairly quickly from normal sporting events, certainly with a few days rest. "Tired" is a sad excuse for any middle age man who would be similarly challenged --not to mention a peak hormone well conditioned major scholarship athlete provided with optimal amounts of scientifically formulated nutrition and state-of-the-art training and recovery therapies.

C'mon, everybody knows that 30-35 minutes of intermittent physical exertion (interrupted by a lengthy intermission and multiple time-outs) is not going to materially effect a strappin young lad some 3 days later.

We all know better. For instance, when I was in college I performed amazing feats of physical endurance with my GF on a near daily basis for an entire school year without any lingering fatigue to speak of ....and that was on top of hard partying past midnight and a terrible junk food diet. No more lame excuses.

For the starting 5, I agree with this. As upperclassmen, you have been through the grind before. However, for the young kids coming off the bench, I do think there is a mental fatigue that carries over into physical fatigue.

With that said, the mentality has to be everyone is playing the same number of conference games and time to suck it up and finish strong.

I don't think it is the physical tired that is biggest issue. It is a mental tiredness that causes the biggest problem and 19-22 year olds have very little experience with this. As you get older, you learn how to cope and adjust and develop ways to block out physical issues. One of the few benefits of getting older

Need to dictate tempo, or this will be a close game. I think we can effectively press and trap to make it more of a full-court game. Hawks 77 PSU 62

I don't think PSU can score 70 points against us. Our lowest point total this year was 68 vs Notre Dame in November. It won't be as big of a blowout as it was in IC, but I'm seeing a good 10+ point win, especially after the performance vs MN.

I have often thought the tired excuse as a bad one also. Especially at the ages of these kids. Mental fatigue is another story. If these guys read anything about what we write on this forum about them....... It could make things better or worse mentally. Therefore , I will stay as positive as I can. Hawks will beat Penn State! Go Hawks!!!!

Hate to say it, Iowa has not played well lately and @ PSU is always troubling for Iowa.

Penn State - 61 Iowa - 59

Terrible loss that will end our momentum and we end up with a #4 seed.

I know WHY you're doing this (since it apparently worked with the Football team, except for the MSU/Stanford Games).... but still... there's a time where you just need to lay down the crack pipe and step away from the keyboard for a moment :)

Uthoff is awesome. One thing I would like to see him do is make some quicker moves to the rim. He usually takes his time with the ball, giving the defense time to get in position. Quicker drives would catch the paint defense out of place and force his defender to give him more space to flush more 3s.

Get Uthoff off the snide from the get-go and we win by 15!

Actually, I was doing it because of the "mojo" for football. However, I've seen too many Iowa basketball teams struggle @ Penn State when they had dog crap basketball teams. I am serious with this one.
