Alabama and Texas A&M had the kid on their radars as a fall-back recruit (Alabama never officially offered), but both schools got the prized QB recruits they really wanted, so Purdy chose Iowa State. Congrats?

(I keed, I keed... nice pick up for Iowa State, even if he was a fall-back recruit for the big boys.)

:)

You know how Alabama goes hard for low rated 3-star white QBs. This should wrap up Duggan to Iowa since ISU has their starting QB for the next four years.

Seems kind of on the shortish side, but we will see. He had commented he wanted to go somewhere that had a shot at winning a national title. I was thinking when I saw that no way he was choosing Ames. I don't think there has been any announcement on Kempt for a 6th year yet. Whoever they got it will be tough in Kinnick in September.

Nice pick up for Campbell and staff ...

(Sidenote: I know Randy Peterson covers the Cyclones and he used to cover the Hawkeyes ... My personal two cents is he sometimes writes more like a "fan" than as a newspaper journalist ... He's a little too excited in some of his articles or tries too hard to talk up the Cyclones ...)

This was actually a good pick up by ISU and their staff. Bama did have an offer on the table but they we're to indecisive on who they wanted to take. Turns out they didn't get either and still don't have a QB. ISU pushed hard and ultimately got rewarded.

Sometimes? He writes like he is trying to get written into Pollard’s will.

It’s not an offer on the table if he can’t sign with them. Alabama showed interest in the kid, but he didn’t have an offer.

He said the other day on the radio this kid will have a better chance of a national championship at ISU than at A&M...

Their other QB they got is like 5’10.

well Alabama doesn't have a stellar record of producing prototype quarterbacks

Bama had some interest in Purdy but didn't officially offer. A&M backed off him when the 4-star they signed today gave them a "silent commitment" last week. Campbell and Iowa State were relentless and persistent, and it paid off ... mainly because Purdy had nowhere else to go this late it the game.

This right here shows how the new recruiting period with early signing period will hurt the Big boys. I'm sure with old way Bama would have been going after lot other guys and wouldn't have even bothered to go after this kid. With lot of QBs signing what was left on the list after early signing period not that much left to pick from as previous years so have schools like Bama going after kid may not normally go after.

Also before everyone starts praising campbell like randy peterson of the DMR see on Rivals they still didn't even crack the top 50 teams.

Heard on the local news that ISU beat out Bama for a couple of recruits. Big news on Frost's first class at Nebraska. Nothing much about Iowa. Iowa just not sexy enough, I guess.

Just curious. As a Hawkeye fan. How did you know everything that happened between Texas A@M, Alabama, and Iowa state? Just curious. Just seems like you know an aweful lot about this kid.

If Bama wanted they get him. Period. ISU can't beat out South Dakota St for a recruit unless they have a major they don't have. This is a joke right?!

My guess is he is making crap up. An ISU coach today said Purdy let ISU know Monday he was coming. A&M was gonna take whoever committed 1st and Purdy chose to come to Ames. And yes Bama offered I'm not sure why this dude keeps saying they didn't.
