Lets hope the second half of last week was indicative of something starting to click for him. He struggled (to put it mildly) up to that point without a lot of noticeable development from game to game. If he can get the mental game figured out and calm the hell down, he has a good chance to work his way somewhere close to the middle of the pack next season, which would be huge for this offense. So many points left on the board this season that could have been picked up with a better read or completing a simple pass.

Watching Mertz against Indiana and he looks a lot like Spencer. I do not think Mertz is better than Petras. These ratings are based on a very small sample size. I recall Mertz, in Wisconsin's opener, completing everything he attempted. But Illinois did not cover any receiver. They have surely improved since the first game but still did not demonstrate good cover skills last Saturday. Spencer Petras completed 64% of his passes for 220 yards. If we had played Illinois in our first game, and Wisconsin played someone like Northwestern, I have no doubt that B1G quarterback ratings for Petras and Mertz would be much different than they are.

I've said this since the beginning of the season. The only QB that is clearly better than Petras is Fields. Petras has the arm strength and the size to be an upper echelon QB. Now will the game slow down for him and it actually happen? I don't know. That's the million dollar question.

Fields has been sacked 15 times? Wow. That’s a nice number to keep in mind should Iowa end up playing the Bucks. Dinner time for Daviyon and Co.

After Mertz 19-20 completions in the 1st game against Illinois he has been pretty much worse than Petras.

have to be impressed with Purdue's numbers.....2 guys with comp % above 64%. this is with a poor line and subpar running game and defense.

13th ranked QB, But tied with Penix for most passing attempts in the big ten. Well, I guess throwing it 55 times against Northwestern will do that for you.

Get off a Petras ass... guess what the bottom two QBs in the league are leading two teams that that arguably the two of four best teams in league .

Ratings mean nothing

Meaningless statistics. IT seems the stats might favor a certain style of play while penalizing others.

Sure helps to have David Bell and Rondale Moore catching passes. Just throw sh1t up and see what they come down with.
