On another site there was an interview with KF about Stanley. I was concerned since he ran a wing-t formation. But Kirk says he has all the tools to play in our system. And he has the largest hands he has ever seen! :D Kirk said he thought he had a baseball glove on when they shook hands!!!!

That's from KF's signing day press conference on Wednesday.

Here's the full transcript:

Q. What did you see in Nate Stanley?

KIRK FERENTZ: You know, it started, he came to camp a couple years ago. It seems like he was in about eighth grade. I'm exaggerating there, but I think he was coming off his tenth-grade season and he really impressed us in camp, to start with the things that he can do, throwing the football, his release, all those kinds of things, footwork and what have you.I got to see him a year ago January being up to visit his school and watched him practice basketball, just to see the growth from June to January was very impressive. Now, I had an opportunity to go up and see him play back in October I believe it was, and then last week saw him again on the basketball court. So you watch guys just mature and grow, that's exciting. But we really think he's got all the attributes of a good quarterback. He's a good athlete. He's got a real command, a real presence about him, and then in a quiet way I would say, kind of like CJ Beathard or Brad Banks, not necessarily a boisterous guy, but a guy that players rally around and gravitate to. I think he's got all the physical attributes that you would look for, and then on top of that, all the characteristics you kind of like to see a guy embody. I'll throw in there, too, he might have the biggest hands of any player I've ever shook hands with. I thought he had a baseball glove on the last time I shook his hand. So that's a good thing in the Midwest.

Q. Regarding Stanley, it seems like he embodies that fit you're looking for. Is that the way you see it with him?

KIRK FERENTZ: It doesn't hurt. His mom coincidentally is from Iowa, state of Iowa, and dad is from Sterling, Illinois, which is a home game, too. So that part is good. Both of them went to Wartburg. So there's a little bit of a connection that way. I don't know if that helped get Nate to camp. Once he got here, the rest of it just kind of happened as a result of who he is and what he stands for. The more we investigated, the more excited we were, and we're just thrilled that he was the first commitment in this class, actually. It's a good thing for a quarterback to lead it off and be the guy heading the charge.

Really good that Stanley will red shirt a year while CJ is at the controls. I believe this could have a big impact on his career.

Are Boyle/Cook still going to be at the helm for a year or two, or is Stanley going to be the guy all four?

Boyle will start when cj graduates. Boyle is gonna be a good one and Stanley is gonna be a good one behind Boyle.

I don't have any I'll feelings towards weigers at all. I just think Boyle is that good. I think Boyle is one of the best in state quarterback prospects we've seen in a while, and that came from an Iowa assistant coach.

Wasn't AJ, the recruit out of Iowa City, a 4-5 star? He ended up at Arkansas as a TE. Can't judge every recruit by how many stars he has.

AJ Derby was never really considered a pure QB. Most good teams that offered him wanted him to move to LB. It's a similar situation for Cook from Regina. KF said he would give Cook the opportunity at QB but most people projected him at TE.

I always sort of scoff at QB predictions. It's different with recruits, because we're really just talking about how they look as a recruit. But who will win the job? There's a lot of time (hopefully) between now and whenever the next guy will take over and we haven't really seen these guys in meaningful game time.

the KEY WORDS

INSTATE QB

AJ was a 4* ATHLETE.
Cook can move to TE,

it is not unusual for KF to recruit QB's then move them to a position that they have a better chance of not only playing but have better success,

Ballard was a 4* TE that ended up moving to Defense,
Roth was a 4* LB that moved to DE.

walkon 2*, 3*, 4* it does not matter if KF thinks a player can help his team win he will recruit and put them in the best position to succeed, Hitchens was a 2* RB that ended up a 4th round NFL pick as a LB. 3* DE recruit Reiff ended up a 1st round NFL pick as a OT.

I think the reason AJ transferred was because he wanted to play QB at Iowa. I know the Hawks wanted him to play LB but he really didn't have the heart for it. I thought he played QB at the Junior College he transferred to. He accepted the TE position for the Hogs because that was the only way he was going to get on the field.

You keep saying this over and over over all the time and I've seen absolutely nothing to indicate this is true.

I think he's a good kid I think he's a good Hawkeye but i just don't think he's going to have the arm talent to win the job

Whoever the next starter is (Wiegers, Boyle, Cook, Stanley), I am comfortable that they are going to be very good.

At this point in time, I would be surprised if Wiegers doesn't succeed CJ. He looked good in the small amount of playing time he's had. He has a good arm, good size, decent mobility, and most importantly of all he has the most experience in the program. If someone beats out Wiegers for the starting position, they will have to be very impressive.

along with the attributes you listed, TW is a highly intelligent individual...I'm thinking this attribute is a positive as far as playing the qb position for Iowa..

Weigers has a very high FB IQ, my question is who is this IA coach, KF was just quoted about how much he liked Stanley, doesn't mean he is going to start from day 1.

from the few things that I have read. GD is high on them all and their individual abilities as each bring something different to the table.

each year they recruit at least 1 QB to have 5 on the roster
RSSR
RSJR
RSSO
RSFR
FR to be RS'd.

IA lost RSSR to Michigan and RSSO Shimonic to TT, Cook and Boyle were grought in in the same class, Cook has the ability to play TE or QB. Boyle has the ability to play QB or S, the one that wins the QB spot would stay and the loser would move .

a win win for the team

All I have to go by is some vids. With Boyle I do not see a lack of arm talent. I see a unusual, unorthodox motion but I see plenty of zip on the ball. He has a lot of time to develop.

I just hate it when facts destroy the start of a good argument. Don't do that again Grosie, OK? :D
