Question about Uthoff for the board

Jared is obviously a guy we are all proud of, a bright student and a solid citizen. But i got to thinking,,,,,I don't recall Uthoff ever shoving a guy, elbowing someone, trash talking, tripping, or anything of that nature. Every other player I can think of a time they might have lost their cool, if only for a moment, but never Uthoff. I just wonder.....does he not have that inner fire or competitive spirit? Facial expressions don't tell the whole story but it just seems like he never pushed back. Thoughts?

I am not saying this for a religious discussion but just a point of observation I do know him and his fiance are Born Again Christians, or at least self confessing. maybe in games he was trying to play in a manner of his own personal conviction or thoughts in what he personally believes it means to follow Christ for himself. Not for others My comments are on the elbowing, shoving tripping trash talking. My comment was not in regard to his inner fire or competitive spirit

I respect that it's your opinion, but I don't think Jesus has anything against guys who play with passion, emotion and lead.

One thing I noticed as the season went on is Jared became more hesitant and was not the trigger man in a lot of the games down the stretch. I don't know if he was gun shy or what, but he was more loose early on and just shot the ball relaxed. I also thought his attacking mode went way down, I don't know if Laymen at Maryland got the best of him? I don't know what happened, but when he went away, we struggled. I think it made everyone else press and that was the downfall of the season. I mean Uthoff went from a 1st round Draft pick to not even being drafted.

I don't think he or she was saying that Christian conduct dictates you can't play with passion and emotion. His or her comment was in reference to the comment about what most rational people would consider as dirty play, and it's unfortunate that some view that as indicative of being passionate.

It's the same line of logic that attracts so many people to Donald Trump. Loud, obscene, and obnoxious now translates into being right.

Outside demeanor does not equate to what your feeling inside, Jack Nicklaus didn't look like he was having a lot of fun winning 18 majors in Golf, Yet he loved every minute of it. He rarely cracked a smile on the course. Every person is their own unique individual, JU was JU, I truly enjoyed watching him play and wish him nothing but success in the future.

What Ute need was a true point guard that could get him and jok the ball at the right time. I truly believe Gesell cost Jok and Ute 4 points each in scoring average.

That and a PG who could hit an open shot as an offensive threat and a post player who could play above rim and dunk a couple of time a game and score at least ten points a game to force defenses to collapse into the paint.

The sun will shine tomorrow (er, maybe:rolleyes:).

Uthoffs major problem is his strength or lack of. We was useless when teams got tough with him. I've never seen a big time ballplayer just have the ball taken from him like Uthoff. It's like a bully taking the ball from the whimpy kid. If he doesn't get considerably stronger he has no shot in the NBA. Those guys will physically destroy him.

As a fan of another B1G program, I wish the young man was on our team. Uthoff was outstanding and the only player I was worried about when Indiana played Iowa. I felt Jok could be contained by putting a smaller quicker player on him, but our only chance against Uthoff was if he missed. It looked to me as if Iowa's achilles heel was their lack of depth. I really liked the back-up center (Uhl?), but he seemed to lose rotation time as the season went on. He was the only player off the bench that seemed to give consistent good minutes when I watched. The other bench players didn't add much...I think your team just wore down.

I understand the disappointment you guys feel. It was a promising year, but went up in flames. We have had that type of year under Crean and the fans have been as livid as yours is...and rightfully so. I think your head coach is pretty good, but I understand the frustration. Good luck next year.

Thank you. Sometimes an outside perspective is helpful in minimizing all the clamor.

Great player, great skills, amazing shot but he shies away from contact. That was the scout on him the second half of the year. Woody despite the huge gulf in talent appeared to be more of a leader and alpha dog.

The way Jarrod handled losses left a lot to be desired (skipping some press conferences, one word responses, etc). Contrast that with the UNI kids who came out and answered every question after a brutal gut punch loss

JU is one of my favorite players in the last 20 years. I am going to miss watching Ute light it up.

Many believe that's one reason why he left Wisconsin. Didn't want to compete with Dekker for the same position.

Personally, he probably would have become a much better player with Bo guiding him. I'm not saying Jared wasn't a good player. Just that he left a lot on the table.

He committed to Wisconsin after Dekker

Well, thank you. I think it is unconscionable the way fans have decided that every person should act a certain way. Was his personality so terrible when Iowa was leading the conference? Was he "soft" when he was blocking shots?

I don't know why this annoys me so much, but c'mon, it's J-A-R-R-O-D.

It should annoy you. Iowa City is one of the few places in the world (and the only place in the States) designated by UNESCO as a "City of Literature." It harms our reputation when many of our fans appear to suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome.
