Quote from Belichick

It is not all about talent. It’s about dependability, consistency, being coachable, and understanding what you need to do to improve. – Bill Belichick
Pretty much what Ferentz believes, especially with receivers.
Unfortunately, Bill is better at it.
Apples and oranges.

I doubt Bill could handle college football.

It's not exactly an innovative or unique coaching philosophy in football or any other sport. As folks point out from time to time, athletic competition ain't exactly quantum physics.

Bill B. says "not all about talent". He doesn't say it has nothing to do with talent. He does not ignore talent, otherwise he would have never had players like Randy Moss on his team. To think KF would not trade his receiving corps for Alabama's, OSU, or pretty much any other top 25 program is laughable. I would say it has more to do with Kirk's inability to recruit top flight talent than his philosophy.

Half the players on the elite teams couldnt play for KF because they dont have the work ethic or humility it takes.

It will be interesting if Bill retires when Brady hangs it up. Chronicle his career without Tom Terrific, and it looks pretty ordinary.
It would also have been interesting to see what Ferentz could have done had we had a Brad Banks throughout his entire career too. A leader and talent like that can be a steadying force for the whole team.

Otherwise, it is fair to assert that given all the roster movement that New England has had ... it's still impressive that they manage to do what they do.

However, without questions, Brady impacts the whole team too. The quality of QB can most certainly make a huge impact on the team as a whole.

bingo. you put KF at OSU or FSU or bama and they would cease getting the rosters full of 4 and 5 star players... because KF wouldn't recruit most of them. he learned his lesson with city boyz, inc.
If those teams quit recruiting that level of talent they would also no longer compete at a top flight level.

Did we just assume players at Iowa have a greater work ethic than the players at Alabama?

(If that's the case we need to get over this "work ethic" shiz because them mfers keep winning natties)

Yeah and Phil Jackson sucks without MJ and Kobe, Pap without Duncan, any yankees coach without 200 million dollar payroll......that is a dumb argument BB is the GOAT and so is Brady. Maybe Brady needs Bill to be successful???? Also, the cheating argument is also dumb

Once you ignore the 8 Super Bowls and 12 AFC title games, it does look ordinary.
I'm not ignoring anything. I said, without Brady. In the NFL the QB makes that much difference, if he's one of the four or five elite guys. Go back and look at the Colts record before, during, and after P Manning. From a 3 or 4 win team to winning at least 10 games, (averaged 12 wins), for a dozen years in a row. Never been done by any team in history. The year he was out injured they won FOUR games, with basically the same team. If they had ever put a really good team around him, especially on defense, they probably win 5 or 6 SB's in his time there. The one year they had a pretty good defense,(thank you Bob Sanders), they won the SB. I don't know, (nor does anyone), what the Pats would have been without Brady, but I'm pretty certain it wouldn't look anything like the record you described.

Belichick does deserve some credit for helping the 199th pick in the draft become the G.O.A.T., and helping him get to 12 AFC title games and 8 Super Bowls.

But I'll go with your idea to look at Belichick without Brady:

Belichick spent 12 years with the Giants. The last 6 as DC, in which the Giants won 2 Super Bowls.

After winning his second Super Bowl, he was hired as Head Coach of the 3-13 Browns. They won 6, 7, 7, and 11 games, winning one playoff game in his 4th year. Then the 1995 team disintegrated as a lame duck team that planned to move to Baltimore.

1996 as a New England assistant, they go to the Super Bowl but lose.

Then the weirdness went down with the New York Jets, where he did manage to squeeze in an AFC title game appearance.

He was then named New England head coach. I guess we only look at the year that Brady was hurt, and Belichick helped Matt Cassel go 11-5.

So, without Brady:
3 Super Bowls
2 Super Bowl wins
1 AFC Title game

With Brady:
12 AFC Title games
8 Super Bowls
5 Super Bowl wins, so far

Overall:
16 conference title games
11 Super Bowls
7 Super Bowl wins

His coaching resume without Brady is better than most of the guys who have ever coached in the league.

His coaching resume overall is easily the best of all time.

Well thats a lot to look at, so thanks for all of your research. Of course, I never said that Belichick didn't deserve SOME of the credit. Frankly, its hard to tell who benefited more from their union, Brady or Beli, as they are so intertwined, kind of the chicken or the egg. Who knows what would have happened had Bledsoe not gotten hurt and Brady languished on the bench for four or five years. Would he have had a hall of fame career? Would the Pats have embarked on the dynasty they've become? There's no way to know. What if Brady had gone elsewhere, would he have become Tom Terrific? Just like, how would the balance of the league been different, if the Colts had picked Ryan Leaf, (as they were close to doing), and Manning had gone somewhere like Minnesota, or the Texans or somewhere where they played some defense? The only thing we do know is that what happened in NE, is now history, and the coach and QB sit today as the GOATS, as you said, in their respective positions.

Would love to see what a KF philosophy could do at a Michigan, Penn St., Ohio St. etc.

Will never know the answer & happy to have him.
..........
Most likely kirk would go 3-9 at those schools. It is iowa that is holding kirk up. Not the other way around.

Right... The only four time BIG coach of the year and he'd go 3-9 at OSU with their talent, because he's some kind of idiot, correct? Some of you guys need to get a new gig. You make a piss poor troll.......

To ignore the cheating is also "dumb". I really admire Kurt Warner for taking the high road when he is asked about the videoing of the closed practice. Bill B is a great coach and people only think of the "deflategate ot spygate" which in and by themselves are no big deal. The video of a closed practice makes me wonder what he DIDN'T get caught doing.

On what are you basing this, other than pulling an opinion out of your ass? Looking at the offer lists, Iowa offers plenty of 4 and 5-star guys. There is a difference between recruiting 4 and 5-star guys and getting them to come to your school. People may disagree with me (and probably will) but KF coaching at OSU, Michigan or PSU, where recruiting is largely self-sustaining, would be a very successful endeavor.

I think of it more in the lines of how many other people did the or is doing the same thing(s) and don't or didn't get caught. The deflategate thing was completely over blown- taping of practice thing, OK yeah that probably is crossing the line. However, many people have said that doing that was more of the norm around the league as opposed to the exception.

Taping of a CLOSED PRACTICE walkthrough the day before the SUPERBOWL is not the "norm". The only reason deflategate became such a big deal was the history of cheating. Marshall Faulk was pretty outspoken for a long time that the "Rams were robbed of a Superbowl". I can't remember all the facts but Bill denied at first then changed it to " I couldn't even pick the employee who taped the practice out of a lineup" and that he never used the tape. Maybe true but makes you want to keep an eye on the organization doesn't it?

Obviously a little unique before the super bowl yes. I am a bears fan so really don't care, however; what I do know is that before NE got caught taping it was going on every single week around the league, in college and even in HS. NE was just really good so obviously got the spotlight put on them. All I know is Bill will go down as the greatest NFL coach of all time and Brady will go down as the great QB of all time. Not saying cheating is not bad, but if you are going to cheat at least be good at it- obvious NE is better than other teams at whatever they do year in and year out.
Also, when people put all the winning on Brady I get it. However, the year he was injured I believe Matt Cassel came in and earned him self a top paying QB salary and was trash after leaving NE, or at least not nearly as productive. Furthermore, pretty sure NE has had a bunch of different OC's and still win SB's.......really the only constant is Bill

I get exactly what your saying as far as those schools being inherently more appealing to the 4 and 5 stars of the world. i'm saying that KF may not be interested in those players because they aren't his type of players. KF offers 4 and 5 star kids that fit into his player criteria. of course its all conjecture, but I 'think' he would not go after a lot of the kids that those schools get on a year to year basis. jmo.

Just like Saban couldn't handle the NFL. LOL

People always overexaggerate Saban's failure in the NFL. He only coached for two years. Saban took over a 4-12 team and almost led them to the playoffs in his first season at 9-7. Gus Frerotte was their quarterback. The next year they signed Culpepper hoping to upgrade at QB and he never recovered from the injury he sustained the year before. They started Joey Harrington 11 games that season, an injured Culpepper 4 games and Cleo Lemon.

It's the system, the coaches and above all it's the LINE. Brady isn't an overly mobile QB but has a little better than average movement in the pocket. He doesn't have a strong arm. He isn't an athletic freak. He was drafted in the 6th round and was a game manager most of the time for Michigan. There was very little about him that would lead anyone to believe he would be a standout in the NFL yet he has led the patriots to 8 championship games.
I'll say it again. It's the system, the coaches and above all it's the LINE.

Bill has Tom Brady.
Tom Brady wasn't always tom Brady. He was a 6th round draft pick w a work hard, accountable, dependable personality & knows what it takes to get better. Bills kind of guy.
