Racist Fans-- kind of sad if true

Except no one outside of Ames CC knows wrestling exists at ISU.

Which is odd for the 5th ranked team in the country!;)

BTW: I was curious to read ISU fans' take on this, so I ventured over to CF. About what I expected... they're still bitter and envious of Iowa. And Crabby still seems bitter about his banhammer on this forum.
Not an AG fan at all but I wouldn't be surprised at all if what he says happened did happen. Iowa has plenty of dimwitted f*kwads in its fanbase. Every school does. If it did happen it's pathetic and inexcusable, whoever said it should be banned for life from CHA.

But some of the ISU CF posters, including crablegs, have little room to talk. Their meltdown after losing to us in Ames was embarrassing. He and a handful of others went on for hours belittling Moriah Marinelli as unqualified for her job, dug up and posted records of their home purchase alleging there's no way they could legally afford their home, one of them posted a pic of Tom Brands' son mocking him for being into theater and apparently being too effeminate, and they accused Cass of taking PEDs as part of his physical transformation. Most of the regular wrestling posters over there are cool, and many actually called out him and the others. I was embarrassed for them.

Just so we're clear. I love Olympic wrestling. I am old and love Hawkeye wrestling. I go to some Hawkeye sporting events live and some others I avoid due to drunks. I'm a minority and received some racial shit thrown at me by fellow fans. It's kind of sad. I wasn't at this event and I think I qualified by saying, I have no clue if it's true. I hope it isn't but it wouldn't totally surprise me. As an alumnus, it just makes the University of Iowa look bad. And hell you won the meet and it wasn't close.
Sorry. Your post just looked like the quick "pump and dump" drive by. Those that post on this site often get blamed for EVERYTHING negative remotely involving Hawkeye wrestling. I mean the site literally is nicknamed "the cesspool".

You aren't known for posting on here. So, when your first noticeable post is about something negative that, may or may not have happened and had ALREADY BEEN posted on here and talked about, it is rather irking to many.

To be clear, NOONE here condones the slur, if it happened. They just don't want to automatically be bulked into a bad group, simply by being an avid Hawkeye wrestling fan.

Also, do you mind my asking if you came on here at all after the Hawkeyes won the NCAA Title last season?

I disagree very much. In the age of NIL money, the more drama the better for Gomez. Attention and clicks equals money. One of the unspoken tenets of wokeism is "the victim is the most powerful person in the room".
We can agree to disagree that the Gomez's have concocted a scenario to obtain some kind of social media/NIL windfall.

Most people I know prefer to live in peace rather than be victimized or accuse others of their victimization.

I know of no corporate advertiser that would want their offerings associated with racial problems.

Outside of Tigerguy, there isn't an objective fan on that site. You must be the "token" Hawk fan that's allowed to post there?

BCClone is probably the biggest anti Hawk because I used to slap him around back in the day of the "Iowa Preps" forum. Him and old man Meeks.
They sure crawled out from underneath the rocks on this Gomez deal, tho. Funny how we're suddenly hearing about all their posters' negative experiences in CHA as they attempt to pile on. Fabricated shit.

No but its pretty damn cool. I follow the Indian Olympic wrestling team and most of them train in the US, so of course I dig the Hawks. I just haven't really posted on here since I don't have the same knowledge of the sport.

Thank your for the transparency and responses. I hope you can see how only posting about an alleged negative situation, while not posting after an extreme positive can be frustrating for some to see.

Yup, I agree with you. No worries.

..... Heard someone threw a can of beer at Starroci after his match too...
I can confirm that something was thrown, whether a beer container or a water bottle I do not know, after the Starrocci match. I personally saw that. FWIW, it landed about 6' behind the PSU bench and thankfully, did not hit anyone, at least on the fly.

Inexcusable...period.

It came from section C, right around row 20 as I recall. Which incidentally, is right next to where many of the PSU fans were seated in section D. I am not suggesting that it was thrown by a PSU fan at all...but I am surprised none of them that were seated so close to the thrower apparently saw who threw it.

Had I seen the perpetrator, I would have walked right over there and waited with them until security got there, etc. Very bad to be throwing ANYTHING like that at an athletic contest.

Well, we are glad you chose this topic to finally make an appearance lol.

I had bad feelings about selling beer in the stadium..... and I’m not anti drinking I usually go to IC early and meet friends for some drinks and food but use the couple hours in the arena to sober up for the drive home

I’ve had 6 season tickets for years and we’re down low right over the tunnel so have a pretty good view of the wrestlers as they leave the mat.....haven’t ever witnessed anything like he’s claiming..... but don’t doubt it..... Heard someone threw a can of beer at Starroci after his match too

Fully anticipated this kind of shit happening when they announced the beer sales..... some people turn into instant assholes when you add alcohol...... I drink my share but nothing is more fing irritating than a stupid drunk
Yeah, I think that we need to reconsider beer sales at Carver. Maybe that works for volleyball, but wrestling, like all other "combat" sports, tends to bring out a lot of bluster, particularly if it's lubricated with sufficient alcohol. I like beer as much as almost anyone, maybe more, but aggression commonly rises after a few too many.

This is not to excuse racist remarks or taunting of the any visiting athlete's family, as that sort of ugly behavior should have no place in Carver. If they catch some jerk on tape doing this, then ban them for five years.

They banned me from that forum also 😭

I used to enjoy bantering with him, we both have kids at ISU and we would compare notes/share stories. Then he started spreading false, insulting, toxic crap about me saying things I never said. Which was ironic since he had been on there throwing a fit about someone spreading false, insulting, toxic crap about him on a different board. Then he turns around and does the same thing.

Yeah, he's a POS. He and others that make claims about the environment in Iowa City probably couldn't even find CHA without "Google".

If you haven't noticed, he's an expert on all the boards.

Thanks to some false allegations over the past few years, it's hard to take someone at their word until it is proven or disproven. It's a sad reality.

Not a fan of the way Austin acted, (I am also not a fan of Iowa guys doing things after the whistle) but it's not against the rules to jab the crowd a little. In my opinion, as a fan, there is only one way to counter that, with a chorus of "boo's". Although I am not a big fan of booing college kids, it's as socially acceptable as an athlete taunting the crowd as was done in this match, or the Bo match.

Anything beyond booing is unacceptable to me. Unfortunately in our culture, there seems to be a lot of people with a lot of anger ready to direct at anyone that does not agree with them or is not on their team. Not sure that is changing any time soon. - and before anyone thinks I am talking about their team or their party or their covid beliefs, I am talking about people from all of those, both parties, all teams and whatever covid beliefs. In the end, I speak for me, not my team or my party or anything else.

Not what I said. You implied that there is not benefit to Gomez for being in this situation and therefore he would not embellish. You are wrong given that the more attention to Gomez the more $ he makes from NIL and post graduate sponsorships.
Gomez is not a corporation. He he self promoting for a bigger payday, like many athletes do. He was smart to pick a bait that liberal/progressives react to so strongly.

I've stopped going to live games and sports events for the most part, largely because of the embarrassing, adolescent behavior of drunk adults.

I do not disagree with you, it can be a possibility. I'm not saying it is, but I've seen hoaxes before or people run to take advantage of a negative situation.

So, all 3 of the Gomez family members were greeted with racial slurs? And, that's what prompted the "in your head" tweet? Wow, not sure I would have tweeted that after being racially assaulted...just saying

I lived in IC for 7 years and have never heard a comment like that, as someone with color.

Wonder if other Latinos or Hispanics were insulted that day too, or just them?

I'm sorry if this happened.

I would hope and even ask that Jack share this with the proper people at Iowa. No need for the public to know, but at least provide it to the University so they can properly deal with it. No reason to say you have video of it then not do anything with it.

I'll say this, Gomez walk behind the benches to the locker room was an embarrassment. There were grown adults standing up, screaming at this guy as he was walking, probably 2-3 feet away from him. Ya he was doing the stupid "chirp" thing with his hand, but I can't imagine, as a grown adult, screaming at a college kid like that. It was cringe worthy
I saw no problem with Gomez’s walk. He knew what he was doing, theatrics ensued, and it sounds like this alleged comment is in doubt. To me this is all about Austin Gomez right now….maybe this is someone’s making a name for themselves moment new wave NIL tactic. Looks like standard script in entertainment wrestling but notice how the real WWE star and CHA got along a few weeks ago. Yeah this looks like a poorly written regional script.

Or not, just spit ballin. 😂😂😂

A friend of mine and I were at a chiefs-raider game. We were pretty drunk. One of the chiefs was on the ground with an injury. After a minute while it was real quiet he stood up and yelled " get him off the field. Let's go Raiders, whoop, whoop." I didn't think we were getting out of there in one piece. I would say asses and beer should not be mixed.
I have a friend who is a chiefs fans and always over drinks. He would have done the same thing. All fan bases have these types of idiots. Including PSU, Wisconsin etc.

The part I don't understand is that he didn't want to blame the guy or point him out because he wouldnt want him to not able to attend wresting matches again? He went through that thought process and anticipated that type of punishment in the moment? Instead of thinking that dude just insulted me and nobody should have to take that abuse again?

And then go tell the whole story online, not thinking it would lead to an investigation and probably get the dude banned from CHA - the whole thing he wanted to avoid.

And if this narrative has the potential to hurt recruiting - then I sure hope we hear from Cashman, Robles, Reyna, Ayala, Matthews, and some of the others....

I go to Iowa events when I am back home in IC, but avoid most away events unless I know I will be amongst a large contingent of Hawk fans. Wrestling is one of those sports that I can go to on the road sometimes because Hawks travel, but football, forget it.

As a Browns fan I no longer go to home games in Cleveland. Fans get way too out of control. I still take in some Indians games now and then. Back in the day I heard a fan yell at our own 2nd baseman that he hoped he'd get cancer. Gotta love America.

I have gone to many events, both pro and college, and yes I have seen exactly what you are saying. Drunken and foul mouthed adults and students acting ridiculous. But, I have never once heard a racial slur used towards a player or a another fan. Not once.

I believe you mean the Guardians! Be careful now ;)

If you have zero context on who hawkgasser is then I don’t know what to tell you except you’re out of your element donny. Hoping that one doesn’t fly over your dome too.
I've never seen the screen name hawkgasser on the wrestling board...and my name is certainly not Donny. Please go back to the PSU board.

Yes some old drunk white guy who very likely never even attended the University absolutely does not represent anyone but a certain ideology that is aimed to tear us all apart and bring down democracy itself.

no one on these boards should try to excuse it or blame the wrestler or anything like that because victim blaming is as ugly as what the fan was saying.

I hope that anyone responsible will be prosecuted and permanently banned from attending sports events or even setting foot on campus. not Hawkeyes and not welcome ever.

Although, that’s too judgmental. this is a University, And come to think of it, everybody makes mistakes and does stupid stuff, and if this person actually learns and grows and apologizes and changes behavior, it probably would be the Iowa thing to allow reconciliation and bring him back into the family.
gawd you sound like a real puss
