Why think ill-intent first?
I don’t know, why are you?

This thread is stuffed full of stupidness. Gomez and his old man are attention seeking drama queens. Anyone who would yell crap like that are losers if in fact they did it. My lady is a poc as the PC crowd likes to say, the one time a comment was made in that arena we just laughed it off cuz you know what? Sticks and stones...... and life is to short to be butt hurt all the time. Trying to smear Iowa is a big motivator here.

A comment was made in which arena, Carver?

Gomez is probably like a ton of kids that wrestle against the Hawks... never experience the satisfaction of being on a team that can beat Iowa. Certainly didn't happen in his days at ISU and the same will be said by the time he finishes his career at Wisconsin. These kids were all high school studs and losing at this level is something new to many.

I look forward to him meeting Murin in the next month. Daddy and Mommy Gomez better get the tweets prepared.

You're kidding right? Sandusky has been all over this board, and our board, for over 10 years. Here you guys sit on your high pedestal denying your racist environment that using @armbartilt phrase "Hundreds of people if not thousands were around" to witness. Further, at TWO different events this happened yet Iowa fans turned there collective heads. What a shame.

And now, when trapped in a corner you respond seamlessly with...but, but what about Sandusky? Karma!
Let's say both incidents are true. Iowa had a fan throw a bottle at a meet. Had a fan use a racial slur.

PSU has had a football coach sexually abuse numerous players and young men.

Even after this they hired another football coach who tried to cover up rape for players while coach at Vanderbilt.

So a couple fans acted poorly vs a University who was and still seems to be tone deaf to sexual assault.

You think these things are comparable?

Daily Iowan

Leftist garbage paper always want to start some BS. Maybe they should hire Rob Howe

Oh Dear God! Now you're saying that yours isn't as bad as ours so it's ok. Got it. Don't forget to add in the Hundreads and possibly Thousands that saw and heard your two incidents, each being equally culpable. You also conveniently seemed to forget about the racist environment that your football coaches are being sued over in Federal Court. That should be a real hoot.

LOL. Keep enabling child abusers and sexual assaults. It fits the PSU mindset.

This is so full of dumb, I don't even know where to begin

I would start with the first two sentences and follow up with the rest of the post where the op does almost the exact same thing. A solid chuckle at this approach

C'mon. There's no evidence that the UNSUB was intoxicated. Demonizing the CHA alcohol sales is a rush to judgment.
Well, maybe we're just being kind to the alleged perpetrator, since stupid & drunk looks better to us than racist name-caller. All I know is that we had no complaints about racist taunts. We add alcohol, then we get complaints about racists taunts.

My guess is that this is not the only "rush to judgement" thing that may be happening here, but we do want to nip bad behavior in the bud, whatever the cause.

He didn't say it was okay. He said these were isolated incidents. He also said that your college has your own problems, so who are you to judge?

I hope that these are isolated incidents, and they will be if we can stop them from happening again. As for the football lawsuit, it will be in the hands of the courts to sort out. As for your school's problems, fix them, or you will keep hearing about them.

Audio recording?
He says he does. He never says anything about anything racist. In fact, if there isn't something racist on the recording he is being kind of reckless. Since many people are using it as proof of such.

Someone embedded it on the first page of this thread if you want to find it.

He mentions obscenities. Which unlike racist slurs most people have heard at Carver and is not surprising at all.

I was disappointed to hear they were going to start selling alcohol at meets. I tend to stay away from bars and drunks, as I find interacting with them to be tedious and predictable.

I've been known to utter a few obscenities myself.
You can't see my face in the pics.
That's even better!!!! ;)

Thanks to some false allegations over the past few years, it's hard to take someone at their word until it is proven or disproven. It's a sad reality.

Not a fan of the way Austin acted, (I am also not a fan of Iowa guys doing things after the whistle) but it's not against the rules to jab the crowd a little. In my opinion, as a fan, there is only one way to counter that, with a chorus of "boo's". Although I am not a big fan of booing college kids, it's as socially acceptable as an athlete taunting the crowd as was done in this match, or the Bo match.

Anything beyond booing is unacceptable to me. Unfortunately in our culture, there seems to be a lot of people with a lot of anger ready to direct at anyone that does not agree with them or is not on their team. Not sure that is changing any time soon. - and before anyone thinks I am talking about their team or their party or their covid beliefs, I am talking about people from all of those, both parties, all teams and whatever covid beliefs. In the end, I speak for me, not my team or my party or anything else.
AMEN

Agreed, how many were at the match? Something like 15,000? I'm sure you can find a few ignoramuses in that amount of people.

Yes some old drunk white guy who very likely never even attended the University absolutely does not represent anyone but a certain ideology that is aimed to tear us all apart and bring down democracy itself.

no one on these boards should try to excuse it or blame the wrestler or anything like that because victim blaming is as ugly as what the fan was saying.

I hope that anyone responsible will be prosecuted and permanently banned from attending sports events or even setting foot on campus. not Hawkeyes and not welcome ever.

Although, that’s too judgmental. this is a University, And come to think of it, everybody makes mistakes and does stupid stuff, and if this person actually learns and grows and apologizes and changes behavior, it probably would be the Iowa thing to allow reconciliation and bring him back into the family.
Prosecuted? You may have misspoken but there is no law against yelling a racial slur at someone. Nor should there be. It would be unconstitutional.

I agree that a ban on attending matches in person for a period of time would be appropriate. If the allegation is true, it was a despicable thing to do.

I haven't heard the word "Spic" in 40 years. I hear the words "fat ass" on a daily basis and this is directed at me usually. Just sayin? Two people allegedly heard this and there were 14k in attendance. Sounds like a SMOLLETT situation?
Smollett situation? You’d better look at that case again, racey …:
