Racist or Not?

I'm right, you're wrong. Deal with it.
Here's the real fact: NONE OF US are "right" or "wrong."

One of us decided it was necessary to present an image of a "******" in a context that is exaggerated, but was (and, technically is) acceptable in an exaggerated context. I don't view blacks as that caricature. I hope not, because my live-in girlfriend is black! Albany, Georgia born and bred. It's amazing how little race matters when you don't make race a point of contention in your consciousness.

Not yet, but with you guys in charge, it won't take long before people have no ability to differentiate fact from fiction, real from fake, or implied from actual action.

You mean like "The Confederate Flag Didn't Stand for Slavery" you and Kiting keep regurgitating on here? Funny how you get to pick and choose which "facts" you want to be known.

Please provide me a link with the "fact" that pirates like Edward Teach (Blackbeard) was on a ship that brought slaves to America. You're so sure of this fact you shouldn't have an issue.

Can you show where he made that claim. Because rereading the thread, I sure don't see it.

I wasn't implying this thread. He doesn't need to bring it up in this thread in order for it to be a true statement.

I generally don't see many vocal minority groups.

I see a lot of majority groups telling minority groups when they should be offended.

It's like when FSU was being brow-beaten by the NCAA committee, and the chief of the Florida Seminole tribe stood in front of the committee and said, "This is just one more instance of the white man trying to tell the red man what's good for him."

The NCAA didn't care that FSU had made a pact with the Seminole tribe. That the name "Chief Osceola" was from a real historical Seminole hero, or that the Seminole tribe helped design the outfit used to depict him. They were on their little white guilt crusade and nothing else mattered to them, even the feelings of the native American tribe depicted.

What f*cking difference does it make? Are you actually sitting here defending the act of Piracy? No, you're not. You're doing what makes more sense. You're differentiating the caricature of a Pirate, from what Pirates ACTUALLY DID! You're making progress if you are. If you can now publicly defend the amalgam of the Jack Sparrow-type Pirate, then you are winning! Congratulations! Now, you're moving toward understanding reality and embellishment!

Pirate- as an amalgam- is almost a figure of fondness, right? The Jack Sparrow Pirate is actually cool, isn't he?! But, in reality, in their hey-day, they were scorned and hated. They were not the scruffy-but-cute, wooden-legged caricature with a parrot on their shoulder. They were HATED by "sophisticants" of their day. They were hunted, sought-out, destroyed and the scourge of all civilized governments and societies. Whether or not they were awful enough to load-up kidnapped Africans or not doesn't mean they weren't outlaws and doesn't mean they weren't a huge threat to civilized people!

But, at least you can now differentiate between the caricature Pirate and the REAL PIRATE!

ETA: And, WTF does this have to do with the damned Confederate Flag? Are ALL people in Iowa this sensitive to EVERYTHING? It must be cold 9 months out of the year, and boring year-round.

As a libertarian, how can you not approve of things that focus attention internally?
Because those issues are going to become internal very quickly. The NeoLibs and NeoCons will make sure of that.
Edit: they already are, we are just too distracted to focus on it.

Exactly! These people are even dictated what they MUST BE offended by! White people take the cake... no doubt. Even when they think they're being altruistic, they're being dictators! As Carlin said "Everyone knew; when those blue eyes came sailing out of the North, you'd better nail everything down, muther-f*cker!"

So if a textbook says they were something other than slaves, that's bad.

When a historical toy portrays them as slaves, that's bad.

Which one is it?
And the kid probably doesn't give a sh*t one way or another. They'll use that toy with a Barbie Doll and pretend they're making a sex tape for the Cloud!

Hollywood has failed us again. Parley! I demand Parley!

I'm going to have to decline. Pirate laws are more suggestive guide rather than actual rules

There seems to be a very focused and constructed method of breaking down current cultures, by using the negatives of former cultures. A sort of recipe for the exact opposite of what certain groups claim to be working against.

It is obvious that we are turning the direction towards what appears to be a non-progressive path the other way around. Which is humorous if you think whom those groups are that claim to be simply trying to negate that.

I know right?..and I thought those dastardly NeoCons were the icing on the Imperial Cake. I appear to have missed the Lib frosting.
Neo-cons are the icing. Neo-libs are the decoration ON-TOP of the icing! The confectionery bunting, etc..

The irony is that a deck hand is posting in a pirate thread. You can't make this shit up.
What's wrong with deck hands? Did you mean 'deck', or d!ck? What is wrong with either one if you don't mind answering, you guilty of being white bastage you.

Nowhere in the world does "Irony" get used more incorrectly than HROT.

It's ALMOST as if "Pirates" were some kind of once-maligned minority here, and these typically-offended white people are now sticking-up for Pirates. All Pirates were misunderstood now. They were purposely marginalized and driven from their trade by white people!

I'm actually glad that these people can NOT BE OFFENDED by something! Pirates are cool. Even though PIRATES were bad! There's hope! Just put some example of them in a context where there is some way to leverage some element of racism, and you have an ocean of sympathy for an otherwise detestable member of history! Misplaced and misguided sympathy, but sympathy nonetheless.

It seems typical of libs to over look rape and murder, and things of that nature, in order to not in any way resemble being racist. Look at Mike Tyson, Hollywood just loves him, despite the fact that he is a brutal, woman beating, raping, ear biting, homophobic, outcast of common society.

Can't that little figurine (is figurine politically correct?) in question just be an amalgam of "captives" just like the Pirates in the set are just amalgams of what Pirates were back then?

ETA: Are the adults that are peeing vinegar over this actually planning to buy this toy and play with it? Kids aren't going to care one way or the other.
