you can’t always get what you want!
At about the 9 minute mark of the 3rd quarter Iowa gets a rebound of a Minnesota miss, rebounder passes to the sideline, who passes to the half court, who passes to a player streaking in for a lay up.

Not one dribble, 3 passes and the ball never touched the floor…Ralph Miller couldn’t have asked for more! Hell, he even would smile! Sometimes these Iowa teams do it to perfection!

That was a pretty sequence, no question.

Had the pleasure of hearing Coach Miller speak at a Basketball Clinic in Burlington one year. He ran 6 basic drills -- early in the season, the drills might take up all of practice -- later on only a few minutes. Much of the time after drills was spent on Off/Def scrimmaging. He set standards for the drills and they had to be met in order to move on in practice. One thing I remember that always brought laugh was that during the side to side footwork sliding drill he said if he was upset at the team, he would sit on a chair in the center of the court with a Coke and a cigarette and just point in the direction the players were to slide and do this for a long period of time to make use they got the point of what he wanted them to do and to know who was in charge. He was a great coach.

He'd be in jail today, certainly wouldn't have a coaching job. 😂

Exactly correct, we didnt get to see Miller's teams on TV very much and I only saw them once in the old fieldhouse. But that is one thing they were known for as was his subsequent Oregon St teams.

I dont think a lot of people remember that Miller led Oregon St to be a top ranked Bball team and to hold the #1 ranking. People we are talking about Oregon St.
